Just checked out your site .. it's great !! it's so well thought out, and you seem to have a fine stable of artists, love the straight forward way it's laid out and the sample tracks help things along no end.
Yes, not exactly rock & roll, but at least it's an attempt at something alittle different ... I like the Monkees, oddly enough Maria my work colleague has been going thro a retro period with her music, getting into all these underground / obscure garage bands of the 60's and 70's, she's dug up a few gems, but I digress, she in amoungst all of this plays the monkees sometimes, I know their image is more than alittle contrived :-) .. but the music's not bad is it.
That's something my work mate and I have been trying to work out for sometime now, you could almost look at some any form of music and line the pictures up of all the artists in the scene and all their publicity shots are along the same lines, as you said I think the real shots of people accually playing their music are far more interesting and believable.
If they're going for a staged shot as you said, it's no crime to be seen smiling or doing something unrelated to the music, okay someone doing they're milk round or paper round maybe going a little far .. or maybe not, it's all subjective I guess.
It's not the fact they are Foreingers, I don't see the fact they maybe foreign being the issue, it's the fact that if anyone's going to try and con you, with very little effort on their part, then the little effort they do put in should at least try to get things looking or sounding right for the target market .. in this case it's an English speaking market. But as you said, it a numbers game against naivety, someone will go for it I'm sure.
Oh and yeah the point with the "no" for know above didn't go unnoticed either, it's just that in that particular sentence structure it still reads well, despite being the wrong know.

Bands also have Myspace, Facebook and various other cyber ways to get their music out there, not just amied at the NZ market, but global, it's a busy world and NZM is just one of many websites out there people will post comments on.
I myself gave up posting here when it became clear there were people around who just sat behind their trolls and posted somewhat childish / almost personal insults, yes I know I'm a big boy now, and water off a ducks back and all that, but it did make me wonder just how small the community on this site truely was, how many trolls various people had and if I was at times just responding to one person bouncing around with various trolls. Though that said, I still read the site every day and quiet enjoy the few posts that are posted.
As for the pap .. I've been dealing with them from my days at news international .. so that means almost 19 years as such, back then they would come upto the main gate in their cars flashing their photographers press card and at times demanding to be let into the plant as they had " the photo of the day " and the paper wouldn't sell if they didn't get that front page picture in on time .. aload of bollocks !! mind you in this day and age they'll just send it from their computers. I'm kinda lucky when it comes to work, we have a great camera system .. well I say that, one of my main camera's being mended at the mo, back soon I hope, and we have an electric gate. I tend to pick up the paps when they park up outside, kinda developed a sixth sense over the years, I tend to get the camera on them and wait till I see them with their camera, just to confirm to me they are paps, then I tip off anyone we have in, they can then decide what they want to do, we have a plan b when it comes to getting people out :-) ..worst I saw tho was when Micheal Jackson came in, they were mixing in studio 2 and he came in to have a playback, I had a call he was 5 mins away, I opened the gate for him to drive in, he hadn't even got out the car, we had maybe 6 paps at the fence within seconds of him arriving, they just followed his cars, by the time he left the fence was full of them .. not nice for the guy I'm sure. I once filmed one pap, we had a band in who's lead singer hates the paps, I think if you can prove that someones following you and can get evidence .. I think three separate incidences in one day you can lodge a complaint of harrassment, so this guy had a video camera, he came up and said Glen, can you go over and film that guy in the car, you should have seen his face as the tables were turned :-) and just last week one of our regular clients was saying there's two paps who have made it their lifes misson to snap him .. again I always tip our clients off .. we've done decoys too :-) .. I hate paps and gutter press ....
Totally agree rope, for some reason news has now become nothing more than low brow gossip, it's more about what they can get on someone or something and fill the facts out with crap to cover more air time, news paper columns, it's not enough just to report on a murder, facts, they delve into every aspect, even reporting on autopsy results interviewing the second cousin twice removed on what a wonderfull person he/she was .. I mean none of that is news, the new is such and such has happened, this is what's going on, we have this evidence .. second cousin twice removed, sorry not interested, and we'll leave the family / victims of crime to deal with private matters on their own .. and don't even get me started on the paparzzi !!!
I hate the media, it's nothing more for the most part but schoolgirl gossip and bitching in the guise of "reporting" on some z list celeb or racking up muck on someone, even sinking to the depths of doorstepping the grieving. What ever happend to the days when a reporter wore a trilby hat with a card saying reporter sticking out using a pencil and paper, we only got the facts once or twice a day, now it's 24/7 fill the airwaves and papers with nothing content just for the sake of filling and killing time on air. I worked for just over 3 years at rupert murdochs new international, it was the first time in my life I'd meet so many rude arrogant up their own arse .. still this is turning into a rant about media .. but what you say above is right, it's media manipulation of something that really isn't anything ..
This is something jake one of our engineers did on Saturday night, it's 500 pictures taken at one minute intervals. We're doing this i tunes festival at work it's 11 evenings of various artists and audiences, first 3 nights were in studio one with 70 or so audience and what your seeing in this footage is the breakdown in the hall after a classical session with the LSO and the set up of the stage for the next 8 nights of i tunes in the main hall, we had 380 audience last night. It maybe I.P I paid from an NZ bank account and had it sent to my sisters place in NZ, only give away may have been my e-mail address. But all that said, I'm now the proud owner thanks to EBAY of an olympus om 1 n 35mm camera, well I say owner, I paid for it today so haven't quiet got it in my hands yet. I tried to post a couple of pictures but somehow it didn't work for me. By all acounts it's a great little camera, I typed in best 35mm camera in the world, and this was one that popped up, straight onto ebay .. and just for a look trademe, a few olympus's on there but couldn't bid, their loss not mine. I've tried to post a picture of it but it doesn't seem to work, and yes I know film is a dying format, but I like it all the same.

Oh and Robsta I've been away from NZ for 19 years come this March and I'm still a VERY proud kiwi, just ask anyone who knows me, born a kiwi die a kiwi, never once has it sucked, NZ is a small country miles from anywhere with a population of 4 million, standing on it's own against countries with HUGE economies, massive populations and infrastructure to match, we hold our own, sometimes I feel with a small town mindset :-) but we do it.

Gidday mate, sorry I didn't follow up yesterday, but had a bit of a shit start to my day and the rest didn't really get any better either, however that was yesterday, today's today :-)
I see, so there's still alittle outside of the box so to speak with relation to the treaty, open to interpretation, and with the use of the modern language and legal system things that were put down or not as is the case in 1840 can become or are relevant today.... too much for me to sit and think about at the mo :-)
I can see a more inclusive representation would be fine thing a combination of ideas and ideals, in a perfect world that's what we should all aim for I guess, we'll just have to wait and see if it ever happens.
