What action should the music industry take to stop it ?

Sound Engineer Wanted For High Profile Projects

This maybe an odd question .. but if your working with "some of the worlds best and well known musicians in alt rock avant garde fields " .. then shouldn't you be looking for a studio ? not some bloke with a bit of gear in a " sound proof " room ? and maybe have alittle cash to splash ? surely if your organising these " high profile projects " muso's of that caliber would expect alittle more ? maybe ask them for funds ? ... the thought of Robert smith in an egg carton soundproofed room with some bloke going .. hold on a minute mate just gotta re attach the faders ...

I don't know if you made the right choice or not by not coming to europe to be honest mate, I mean yeah there's a bigger music scene here and you have alot more choices ( as in there's alot more people looking to record ) but then again there's alot more qualified people over here too, and most of them are recording their mates also, the days of getting a job in a large studio are pretty much over. Now if you qualify, you don't look for a job in a studio so much, you get a job, save money and buy your own equipment. Over the last few years .. certainly over here and America many world famous studios have shut their doors, never to re-open. The flip side of that at the moment is you get alot of experienced people out of work and they're out there setting up small independent studios, mostly just them and one or two others, not very large scale but with worlds of experience, these are the people, people tend to seek out when they have alittle money to spend and want to move up a notch from recording with their mates, I think this is the evolution of the music world from a studio / engineering point of view for the time being. I'm not sure where things are heading for people coming out of schools and music courses, the schools just suck people in and spit them out at the end with no real possiblity of a job, every year we're not talking a few hundered but thousands EVERY year through out the world, where do they all go ? I've ranted enough, I don't mean to put a downer on things, but I do think you should maybe have a Plan B if you chose a career in music ... sorry for any spelling mistakes !

Hello

Still lurking too, check every couple of days.

Miscreant

that's odd, I was just talking to Maria today about the same thing .. how music for the most part should be story telling, as it's origins are based in that, from a time before writing, maybe speech, and a way of getting a story across to people who for the most part couldn't read or write. The music ( and dance ) would have to tell the story, it took people places. I think music still does that .. but I think now there's so many people telling their stories, it becomes more of a personal thing .. if that sounds right, i mean everyone wants to put to music their breakup with the girl/boyfriend, how f"*ked up the world is and how crap the government are, but they're all telling the same story, now with the muliti media situation saturation becomes a problem, it loses it's impact for the most part. I'm not saying it's a bad thing and I'm not saying music no longer talks to people, but I think it's somehow lost it's story telling impact in some ways.
As for lyrics, not sure that making sense is much of an issue .. it's where the story in the song's taking you, if it's fantasy, then fantasy words are fine, made up words / sounds are fine in a song if it's going with the flow .. I mean check out the lyrics to I am the walrus !!! even drunk that makes no sense ! but it speaks to people in some way .. there's thousands of songs out there that are "out there " on the lyric front, but are great songs.
Well that's about it for now ;-) got a home to go to in an hour or so, and got a new guy in for the night shift, so have to run him through a few things.

What are you listening to.?

ummm hayley, just checked and yeah as you say, she is .. going to be interesting how they get an 80 piece orchestra on the stage they have there ;-) maybe I'll pop along to that one too, see how it pans out.

The guillemotts were great, always liked them, great energy on stage and great musos, they had a guest appearance from Martha wainwright, she was pretty good, not heard her before. The last song was just a mass of noise I liked it :-).
The girl up first Lykke Li was okay, didn't really listen to be honest, too busy getting drinks and finding our way around the club .. like a labyrinth ! still managed the find the JD bar tho :-))) !

Off to a BBQ tonight and I think an all night session of sic fi B movies .. That's if I last that long, got work tomorrow too !

What are you listening to.?

Going to Itunes live tomorrow at KOKO seeing the Guillemots .. I like them, and Lykke Li who I have no idea about.

Listening to volume 4 of "NUGGETS 2, original artyfaces from the British empire and beyond 1964-1969" track 20 at the mo, Dance around the maypole by The Acid gallery.

Scoregasm and Razorlight are also features at the moment.

Is it wrong for bands to strike a different pose in their publicity shots?

I didn't see the link first off Harsh bloke, there's some serious mis-use of the camera going on there ! what ever, ever, ever were those people thinking of .. well quiet obviously I guess, they weren't !

Is it wrong for bands to strike a different pose in their publicity shots?

Just checked out your site .. it's great !! it's so well thought out, and you seem to have a fine stable of artists, love the straight forward way it's laid out and the sample tracks help things along no end.

Is it wrong for bands to strike a different pose in their publicity shots?

Yes, not exactly rock & roll, but at least it's an attempt at something alittle different ... I like the Monkees, oddly enough Maria my work colleague has been going thro a retro period with her music, getting into all these underground / obscure garage bands of the 60's and 70's, she's dug up a few gems, but I digress, she in amoungst all of this plays the monkees sometimes, I know their image is more than alittle contrived :-) .. but the music's not bad is it.
