GUY BLACKMAN & SLY HATS (MELBOURNE) W/ SUPPORT FROM CURFEW GIRLS AND TREES CLIMBING TREES!

" Epaulette & Strange News bring you:

GUY BLACKMAN & SLY HATS (Melbourne) performing together as a trio!

Guy has just released his lush new record ADULT BABY, featuring the delightful single "Gayle" and the Jens Lekman duet "Dark & Quiet Place".

Blackman presents himself as a balladeer, playing deftly constructed songs on piano and guitar that deal with issues of love, sexuality and commitment. He describes his music as “M.O.R. D.I.Y.”, and his songs evoke comparisons to Brian Wilson, Tim Hardin, Serge Gainsbourg and The Left Banke. Honesty, emotion and personal revelation are the focal points of his work, although none come at the expense of melody or songcraft.

In Australia, he shared stages with a host of international names such as Vashti Bunyan, Joanna Newsom, Bill Callahan, Jens Lekman, Calvin Johnson, Mt Eerie, The Blow, Karl Blau, Josephine Foster and Dear Nora, while his former bands supported Cat Power, Stereolab and Elliott Smith, amongst others. Elsewhere, Guy has played festivals from Arhus, Denmark to Anacortes, Washington, braved the icy streets of Sapporo, Japan and the elegant, former Communist ruins of East Berlin.

'Sly Hats' is the project of Kamerah 'Hats' Darling from Melbourne Australia. He has released a string of one-off EPs since forming in mid 2004. Debut album 'Liquorice Night' is out now! Sly Hats have/has been lucky enough to play with some favourites such as Little Wings (US), Calvin Johnson (US), Jens Lekman (Swe), Mt Eerie (US), Kath Bloom (US), Camera Obscura (SCO) The Brunettes (NZ), Micah P. Hinson (US), New Buffalo and Dear Nora (US). Sly Hats has also performed in America, Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, England and Germany.

Guy's piano and Geoff's guitar will be complemented by the drums of Raquel Solier (ex-Oh Belgium). It will be really something.

Support comes from Curfew Girls. A dangerous and passionate outfit for real. AND! Trees Climbing Trees!
The top new band that are breaking hearts all over!

Tickets are $15 on the door from 9pm. Be there or be ashamed.
