the unwritten rules of a good live performance

... and really really loud does NOT equal really really good. Best bands I've seen live probably have it set to 8 not 11.

Acknowledge the audience. Don't play with your back to them! ... unless you're John Paul Jones on the pipe organ - then, and only then, is that ok.

Hey

5 years and 42 weeks. That's pretty old school!

New Zealand Music Hall of Fame

I'm not sure whether they have to be living to be inducted? If not then I imagine there'll be a posthumous induction or 2.
Fred Dagg?

New Zealand Music Hall of Fame

At this years Silver Scroll Awards, 4 people will be inducted into the new New Zealand Music Hall of Fame. These inaugural Hall of Famers will be honoured for somehow shaping and influencing New Zealand culture in a significant way. They may be songwriters, composers, performing artists, or industry champions.

Anybody care to make some nominations for people who you think deserve to be in the NZ Music Hall of Fame?

Or predictions for this years inductees?

"i made it more fem so noizy won't be tempted to steal it."
Well you know that's not necessarily a deterrent with Noizy... He does have that Natalie Biz outfit up in the attic....

Fellow facebook addicts, have you heard? Facebook facing shutdown...

"Facebook, the popular social-networking website will face shutdown if it fails to win a US court battle next week.... Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss and Divya Narendra, former fellow Harvard students of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, allege that Zuckerberg copied code and a business plan from their site while he was still working for them as a programmer."

Lyrical Lines that Just Don't Work

I dunno Jo, sounds more like cunning linguism to me.

Predictions for the 2007 Silver Scroll Awards

The Silver Scroll nominees are listed in this news item (link below). Anyone care to make some off-the-cuff predictions? www.nzmusic.com/news/apra_silver_scroll_awards_2007_apra_announces_the_t...

I'll go out on a total limb and say:

The 5 finalists will be:

Brooke Fraser for Albertine
The Mint Chicks for Crazy Yes...
Hollie Smith for I will Do
Shayne Carter - Whats a few tears for the ocean
Neil Finn - Don't Stop Now
and a couple of wildcards could be Liam Finn and Shapeshifter

Brooke Fraser will win it.

Fur Patrol will cover The Mint Chicks
Shapeshifter will cover Dimmer
Stellar will cover Brooke Fraser
Liam Finn will cover Crowded House
Opensouls will cover Hollie Smith

Btw this isn't necessarily what I think SHOULD happen, but it's how I think it will play out. For those of you who want to make a more informed prediction - you can listen to the tracks and read the lyrics here www.apra.co.nz/html/voting2007.php?id=5354

Ticketmaster To Auction Best Seats to The Police

"Ticketmaster see it as a win for fans and a win for the band: by enabling consumers to select the price he or she is willing to pay for a ticket in a specified seat location for a specific event they say the auctions help to keep premium tickets out of the hands of unauthorised resellers."

Sounds a lot like "win for Ticketmaster" too - allowing them to cash in on the auction prices some of these tickets are going for. I'd be interested to see what "auction management fees" get slapped on top again for these particular tickets, and what percentage of the auction sale gets to the performer in the end.

Lyrical Lines that Just Don't Work

lol that reminds me of Dave Chapelle's sketches about R Kelly. Now I can see they weren't really that much of a stretch.

Lyrical Lines that Just Don't Work

This one hit me last night as I was playing guitar hero. I was up to "furious fret work" so I was playing Hanger 18 by megadeth which is an Awful awful awful song with an even worse lyric thrown into verse 2 .... "Suspended state of cryogenics"
