Was this a chore for the bands or what? - pants if Im wrong, but heck there were some very average performances.
Good turnout on a Tues though on a more positive note.
Wouldnt say American producers were better at all - you do however have better studios and more of a networking buzz, we have been trying to offer a number of NZ artists the oppurtunity of Village Studios and Paramount Recording (both studio's are in LA).
Probably at no extra cost than NZ studios (with the exchange rate)
You would think a few artists/labels would have taken it up but nope - rather get produced in NZ, but thats cool its what you choose to do.
Come to think of it, If anyone would like some tracks mixed or to be recorded at www.villagestudios.com and www.paramountrecording.com by ol Malc, drop us a line.
(apoligies moderator for blatent plug- just sharing the love) We did run an ad about this on NZM website and had a great response.
The timeframe thing did take a long time, but all things considered there was a relocation to California to get through, all ticketyboo now though.
I think its great that they are back - sure there will be a balance of Imported shows but the difference will be in the locally produced shows, something the other two networks never quite got the grip of.
Await abuse.
I think we will find a pretty sharp production team 'out in the field' bringing in the goods.
People that have tried and tested funny shit already in other territories of the world.
Juice is a family run business and the nicest people around, I don't think they give a toss.
C4, however I feel never really understood how important locally produced shows are the winner- seem to be struggling to find qaulity content.
Maybe Im well wrong, maybe they do have great content and Im over the hill.
End of the day its great to have choice, which hopefully we will have.
Fuggin well said Matt - Venues street creed is vital, often punters dont get to here the venue's side of the story.
Studio almost got worked from stories of security being heavy handed at one particular band, the venue took the brunt of it - if only the punters and other bands had known what the band had done to deserve being dragged out by there ears. (not sure the exact details but involved band members telling security to F off and spitting at them for bringing in booze to an all age show)
Funny old world.
Cold glasses is most welcome, ill buy heaps.
Watch them perfrom it live this Sat night and listen for yourself!
John Peel called them one of the ten best bands in the world you have never heard of. If you know anything about anything however, you will have heard of them, and if you haven't, you should go anyway. HDU are set to take the stage at Aucklands Studio on April 22 supported by Yokel Ono. The one off gig, will double as the release of their stunning new single Tunguska . HDU, were last seen performing alongside the Straitjacket Fits in Wellington last year, they made a terrific racket, then disappeared out of sight again. They don't play many shows these days so see them while you have a chance. HDU will kick your arse and make you like it.
An unstoppable drone-juggernaut, they proved equal parts compelling and terrifying for the more, er, chemically refreshed portions of their audience
Melody Maker
A roaring, enveloping psychedelic swirl of a propulsive hard rock band. Simultaneously driving and expansive, their music projects a wide-screen image of the onrushing of infinite landscapes as traversed from low orbit.

‘METAMATHICS’ TOUR
MAY 2008
Metamathics: (n) (short form of 'metamathematics')
The investigation of the properties of realities intrinsically
unknowable by and from our own, but whose general principles can be
hazarded at.
-- Iain M Banks, 'Excession'
Primal riffery, ambiheaviness, thousand mile apart hand claps, HDU are about to perform 4 shows during New Zealand music month.
The 'Metamathics' tour is an appropriately widescreen affair, six scenes of Arizonian dimensions fed through the unmistakable HDU filter. Squeezed to dust guitars and rhythms beamed in from beyond, from the staggered struts to the slow dissolves, these shows are that long awaited meeting point where HDU reconvene and agree once more - space is the place.
With outstanding and rare live performances, HDU once again, will prove to be masters of their reality - even when they're not quite sure what that reality is. With 'Metamathics' it's a very real pleasure to hear them hazarding a guess.
H D U will play limited capacity shows on the following dates:
May 15 – Wellington - SFBH
May 17 – Auckland – Kings Arms
May 29 – Dunedin – Backstage
May 30 – Christchurch – Als bar
Tickets available from Real Groovy and Undertheradar.co.nz, new album ‘Metamathics’ out now.
