You know, I was thinking the same thing about Arsenal. Often we need to pick a team to make sport exciting, but if ever there was a team you would watch for the spectacle alone, it's Arsenal. that said, i do support liverpool (had to pick a team when I moved to england at age 6, literally asked a friend who a good team to support was), so maybe a 6-5 liverpool win would make me happy!

robs : 28 October 2007 - 12:37pm

I see a new album is expected sometime this (next?) year. How very exciting.

robs : 28 October 2007 - 12:29pm

Funny what aka said: "Isn't it odd when the real world is turning very very scary we return to our old safe places in the virtual world".

Here I am at NZM after 2 years, and though i was never a reg, i lurked most days. Strange how quiet it's gotten around here.

robs : 20 May 2005 - 2:59am

Speaking of sonic youth getting stuck in your head, I've had the youth against facism bassline (accompanied by air bass) with me since excessively watching the sonic dvd.

The dirty boots vid is hip (as is the song!).

robs : 20 May 2005 - 2:36am

"I can't get none" followed by a little guitar riff.
Followed by, "I can't get none".
Followed by that same guitar riff.
And so on. Even worse than having this stuck in my head is forgetting who it is by. Thought maybe it was the MC5, but couldn't find it on the cd. Gah.

robs : 5 March 2005 - 8:18pm

//you're an idiot! when i go to a gig, i want to be satisfied, not by some high-energy sloppy arty wank over a great song, but by something i can recognise and sing a long to.//

well there's no denying that i'm an idiot, but surely it is equally idiotic to go to a mint chicks gig and expect a sing along? perhaps you're a mint chicks virgin, so your comment is warranted, but now you know, that is just how they play live.

i have to say, i like going to a gig where i recognise the songs too, metallica and muse, two of my favourite concerts, were great, and i attribute that to knowing every song. at the same time, when i went to sonic youth last year i was a sonic virgin, i only knew one of the songs they played, but it goes down as the greatest concert i've ever been too. and the mint chicks, i don't know any of their songs but on the occasions i've seen them i've found satisfaction in dancing around like a maniac. all were a different style of gig, but all very satisfying.

robs : 4 March 2005 - 11:56pm

Surely the 'proper' way for a band to play THEIR OWN SONGS is to play them however they like? And if you wanna hear an exact rendition of the recorded version of a song, why not take your discman/ipod along to the next gig you go to?

robs : 5 January 2005 - 2:58am

I don't know. Can you repeat the question?

If I lived out that way, I'd be there for sure. But I don't. So no. Aboohoo.

robs : 31 December 2004 - 9:15pm

I'm unlikely to get my hands on 1960b cab i'm afraid, but good luck in your quest to get one (or two for that matter!).

robs : 30 December 2004 - 7:35pm

What would you swap for?I haven't got any guitar gear i want to get rid of.. Anyway it's unlikely as i'm just toying with the idea of getting a tele, i haven't been playing long so i don't know whether i deserve such a nice geet. Thanks though!

robs : 29 December 2004 - 10:49pm

Hi, how much would an american series tele cost? Do you import Highway 1 and standard (mexican) teles?Cheers!

robs : 29 December 2004 - 1:15am

haha deary me, that leaves what, a few hundred thousand/a few million/potentially all musicians? though if i had to take a guess, i would say tracy chapman, for the simple reason that when i first heard her, i wasn't all that confident that what i was hearing was a female voice.

robs : 28 December 2004 - 4:50pm

brilliant!! i'll just call you sherlock, blink. thanks heaps, the song is huddle formation by the go team. ahh made my day!

robs : 28 December 2004 - 12:36am

argh, moments ago i was listening to channel z (on sky tv..) and heard a song i rather liked by a band i hadn't heard of. so, as i always do when this happens, i repeated the band name numerous times to myself and raced to the internet before forgetting it. unfortunately i forgot it...

anyway, perhaps someone here can help me think of the name! (or think of it themselves an tell me). unfortunately my clues are rediclously vague, but here they are:

1) the band name begins with 'the' (!!)
2) there is only one other word after the, so it is 'the something'
3) i think the last syllable of the unknown word ended with ing/in or eng/en
4) the song was played at just after 8pm tonight (28th dec) on channel z
5) in the song itself, the vocals are quite hard to understand, and sound as if they are sung by multiple females. kind of like a chant or something, rather hard to describe.
6) i'm pretty sure the unknown word is only 2 syllables (sounds like? *taps ear* haha)

ok that's all i've got i'm afraid. i know it is terribly vague. but heck, what's a boy to do? merci!

robs : 17 December 2004 - 9:11pm

I think Heather asked a good question, how many years have you done? You're civil right, second possibly third year I'm thinking? (no, I'm not a soothsayer, I read your exam comments in oct/nov). I do both engineering and arts, I started the arts in the second semester of this year (my second year) and picked it up because i also found engineering so boring. But i think once you've started, it would be a waste to stop. And while I don't see myself being an engineer upon graduating, I imagine the degree will be useful. Doing arts has made my degree a little more interesting, perhaps you should consider doing the two simultaneously also? Even if they wont let you do conjoint (unlikely considering 10 failed papers..), you could still do an arts paper 'for interest'. I would recommend it. Also, pretty much everyone i know in engineering hates or is bored with it, and is wondering why the hell they are doing it, it's not uncommon but the general consensus is it's worth sticking at.

robs : 30 November 2004 - 3:59am

Thanks. And yes, you are quite right, it was asked a while back. Forgive my failure to check!

robs : 30 November 2004 - 3:13am

Forgive my lack of bass guitar knowledge, but does anyone know what the bassist (Mike?) plays?

robs : 4 November 2004 - 11:19pm

//Does that cause identity conflict? I mean on one hand you should all melancholy and thoughtful, and on the otherhand a mathematically inclined beer-swilling slob.

Alas, it does cause an identity conflict, in my case at least. Engineering AND arts. Where does my allegiance lie? Philosophical musings and political debate, or determining the required resistance to produce the desired level of amplification in a hypothetical circuit? Read a book on a friday evening, or go and get trashed like the beer-swilling slob I am? Fortunately I've discovered a compromise. Wine. It provides the mystery and sophistication that any philosophy major deserves, but at the same time, I get fucking hammered which is all I want anyway right?

robs : 7 September 2004 - 3:57am

Well then that settles it! Methinks I'll be going to muse now. Sounds like G.A. tickets are running out fast. It would a shame to be seated, though muse are a band where you can appreciate the music from the comfort of a chair.

robs : 2 September 2004 - 4:22am

ehm, pretention = pretension haha. i ummm, didn't want to sound pretentious (ie be a hypocrite) by spelling it right... yeah... that's why i did that

robs : 2 September 2004 - 3:58am

I decided against going to Muse seeing as the bassist hurt is wrist and from what i gather wont be fixed (and hence wont be playing) by the Auckland show. I like Muse. I like Radiohead. Yes their vocals are similar, but in my books, that simply means if you discover you like one of them there's a good chance you'll like the other. The pretention that is derived from people deciding someone has copied somone else is lame. I copied my parents when i learnt to talk. Someone shoot me, im a sinner.

robs : 15 August 2004 - 3:56am

*begins humming the x-files theme song* hehe
