New Urban Tramper Record - Awesome!

Saw them at Ward Lane on Sat night. Picked up an album and though I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet I thought maybe their live stuff was a lil bit better? Regardless... I fucking enjoyed them eh. That cat can play him some guitar. Cool shit.

What the hell happened here?

Great news and a good start! Top work Dust, NoizyBoy and all else involved!

Virb...

I'm guessing a few of you are signing up to Virb these days?
Anyone?

Any, if you don't know about it, it shits all over MySpace in just about every conceivable way, the audio player is light years ahead and actually works, pages are fully customisable with real HTML and real CSS... etc etc.

I know MySpace has the user base, for now. But I reckon fuck those dicks, give Virb a shot.

If you have a profile already I made a NZ Music group.

Camp A Low Hum

Apologies if there's a camp a low hum topic on here somewhere... I had a look but couldn't find one.

Anyway if you went and took photos the boy Zmatt started a flickr group.

Righto.

bFM - Mikey to return as brekky host?

I live in the Tron now so miss bFM but a lot of my auckland mates have complained that "all they play is fucken boring garage rock now". They seem to think it's become about getting your mate's band on the air, or being seen to be digging the fresh new shit hitting the shitty little rock clubs in town. (Not that it's all bad, but there seems to have been a LOT of bandwagoning going on these last couple of years)...

I remember listening to the b every morning on the way to work. Hilariously it would take me only about 20 seconds to figure out if Havoc was sick or away: if a song played that long without being interrupted by talking, yelling or a phone call then Havoc was not there.

Basically Havo was/is a pathological egotist. I remember getting fucked off because he was playing Welcome to the Jungle or some shit. So I called him and said "Dude, name your 5 favourite Kiwi artists" which he did. So then I said "With all that awesome groundbreaking shit out there why the FUCK are you playing Guns and Roses? Seriously? Is there not a better use of this airtime right now?" He prattled on some bullshit about reliving the past and then fielded calls from 25 munts in a row jacking his ego back up for him "Don't listen to that guy Havo you're AWESOME man!"

Fuck that.

Hey b, lets get progressive again eh?

question for actively gigging Wellington musos

I have 93 mins of HDU at 160kbps, it's 105MB. It was recorded through headphones, but some compression and EQing works wonders on bootlegs.

How do I find out about good indie gigs?

check the punkas.com forums, htown.co.nz forums (also some aucks and welly shows on there)... bFM gig guide (95bfm.com)

Camp A Low Hum

Blink, check into the old Kiwi Ranch location in rotovegas. I have no idea who owns it now. Could be teh awesomo. I'm not sure how much of the awsome old stuff like flying fox, roller coaster etc got shut down by the evil OSH though...

High Dependency Unit

And Yokel Ono supporting!

When was the last HDU show, like 2 years ago. I drove 7 hours to see them.

bottom three genres

In the same way "NZ Music" is not a genre, neither is "Christian Music".

10 Years ago Christian hiphop was thrashing the SHIT out of most other hiphop around - but it was so underground most people would never have heard it...

And there's a lot of underground 'christian music' that is just as inventive and creative as anything else around...

Unfortunately most music identified as christian is either "God is choice", or "I love my wife". There's not much christian music that questions death or beliefs or whatever and then gets played on LifeFM, for example.

That South Park episode completely sums up the commercial Christian music industry.

A LOW HUM - MAGAZINE, CD & TOUR back!

...but still fun to read...

home recording

Bro, if you're just demo'ing singer/songwriter stuff at home for your own sake and don't wanna fork out for gear do the following.

DL Audacity or the demo (free) version of nTrack.
Get to Dick Smith and pick up this wee bugger (link below).

Recording through your PC's on-board sound will get a 'bit' noisy and you'll have some room noise too, but you should be able to get usable sounds.

I know a guy who recorded half his album through one of these mics! They do the job with mini-disc recording too.

Hamilton - Go with the Movers Release

YUS!

home recording

How popular was "Jesus I was Evil"? Recorded on a 4 track.

Home recording is great for a LOT of stuff. You're not going to release an "industry standard" album with it. However you can record great demos, use it for assisting in song writing, write non-singer/songwriter genre stuff (drum & bass, hiphop, oonst etc).

Daniel Beddingfields first album = bedroom. The Streets first one = bedroom... etc etc

It's not false economics if you know what you're going to use it for and you're happy with that.

home recording

Hey man, if you google "home recording" there's a couple of great and very extensive sites to help you with all aspects of home recording.

Most 'modern' home PC's have plenty of grunt for home recording if you're just mucking around. Your real brain teaser will be what type of sound card / audio card to get (ie: bucks vs performance vs your intentions)

I think Audacity is a free multitrack audio software you can DL. If you want a GREAT audio program for small bucks, I highly recommend n-Track (http://www.ntrack.com/)

Good luck...

TRUTH about why SHIT is on the RADIO

//*tries not to imagine the living hell of having to listen to commercial radio for an hour let alone all day*

Actually the music is fantastic compared to the inane babble of commerical radio DJ's. My god it makes me feel like jumping off a cliff. If these people talked the way they do on the radio in a normal social setting they'd a) have NO friends and b) likely get punched the fuck out after about 40 seconds.

Anyway, this is all besdie the point...

HTOWN CIRCLEJERK 06

Last night at open mic night the frogletter boys played to the tune of "stir it up" only changed the lyrics to "bregiz loves the cock". Gold stuff.

Click the link below to see heaps'o'photos from the last Circle Jerk. It was fucking PACKED and a great great show to boot...

new collaboration album

MUST have a listen/purchase.

Noise Control aaah what?

We got noise control called to a party a couple weeks ago. The guy was actually really cool and we had a conversation with him.

I asked what the maximum db level was on the complainants property and he said their is none, it's simply up to his judgement.

I know that when Parachute was in Matamata it had to be below 65db's at the boundry line, but that was a resource consent thing I think.
