Evermore No.1 In OZ

There's probably a forum that would allow you to illegally download the whole LCD Soundystem album already. It might have a terrible name, but it could also be free. I dunno.

It's got 'Jess' but not those other two. Hm. Stink. 10 tracks.

// 'Jess'

Almost like a tribute to a Bleeding-Star-obsessed-NZM-poster. ;)

'35 Black & White' reminds me of The Cars more than ... more than that Postal Service song that sounds like The Cars! OMG!

Over The Atlantic Forum

Man, this album sounds heaps like JPSE, eh? Specifically the one the guy from the Strawpeople produced... songs like 'Kevin Shields', the melody's heaps like 'Block' (although I guess it's also like Architecture in Helsinki), and other places the arrangements, the chords, the vox... 'Jess' and 'Fly To The States'... fuck, most of it really.

It's not a rip-off by any means, I guess more than anything it's just made me realise how seldom I hear stuff that sounds like JPSE.

Is the contents of the NZ version different from the Carpark one, btw?

Watched the vid for '35 Black & White' the other day, it's what finally got me off my arse to check out the album.

Stop yer bichin

Man, glad to see the NZ Herald is making articles based around quotes from the Sun!

Funny, nonetheless.

Twilight Drop

OK, to talk about NZ music on this topic, anyone heard much of Hell Science Department, Christchurch dubstep producers? They've got MP3's for sale on juno and other such spots.

One of the guys (self-admittedly more of the manager / polisher than producer) is a hell of a forum slut.

Twilight Drop

Super_Collider are fantastic, but I don't really hear any connection between them and dubstep. Jamie Lidell's background is in techno and funk, Cristian Vogel's in techno and electro-acoustic music.

Heard that Skream album at 4am when I was really drunk and enjoyed it quite a lot, but at least partly because it wasn't all dubstep. I did use to like first-gen stuff, e.g. Dub War's Murderous Style is amazing and some El-B business is also fantastic. But that was because I could hear the 2-step in the beats, which made it heaps more fun.

Had thought about the Scorn thing too... also Seefeel's last album... but that totally doesn't apply to the older stuff, which was all clearly about 140 bpm and had the shuffle beats and heaps of house influence mixed with the darkness.

MP3's, Ipod's, boring stuff

but thanks for your help, I appreciate you putting in the time.

Twilight Drop

Was pleased to see FFD got DMZ to do a remix... I think dubstep's pretty fucking boring, but it makes sense to tap into the creme da la creme of the London underground, and those dudes are the undisputed reigning champs in those circles.

"You see a peanut... the day's off to a good start. You witness some soil ... it's a jamboree for Vince Noir"

Bone Thugz - gay ganstas?. r18, youngins keep out!

Ha, I thought I wasn't being paranoid in imagining this was about me... ;) Our discussions on here have never got anywhere, Trillion so I'm not going to join in with this one, sorry.

PS. both that MIA / Diplo / whatever axis and the "nu rave" thing the NME is touting remind me of the "terrorists are gay" art concert in Nathan Barley.

My favourite Mighty Boosh moment is Vince recounting the story of his childhood raised in the forest by Bryan Ferry and the subsequent squabble about it... it's a monster pile up of funny lines.

Nathan Barley is pretty great too, but I've had the unfortunate lines "Kicked the brown door in .. painted it white on the way out" lurking in the back of my head since I first saw whichever episode it is where Nathan's bragging about having scored Clair. Jesus.

Death To BBQ Reggae

I didn't say there's anything reggae about Pig Out. There's not.

Death To BBQ Reggae

Heh, Pig Out is just as reggae as that album... you're weird.

BTW, is your nickname on here after that old New York MC? I always think of Tim Dog growling "STEP TO ME!!!" every time I read your posts.

Pig Out

Nice of you to wish the members of the Black Seeds et al a happy new year. :)

Merry Christmas

I had a bloody good Christmas. Presents-wise I bought nothing, gave nothing, received nothing. Had a boozy lunch with friends and went to a mysterious place called the Christon (this is like a katakana take on "Christian") Cafe. Japanese take on what a church should be like, but a restaurant and bar designed as a church. Completely sacriligeous. A friend of mine ordered beer & campari off the menu. Hm.

Death To BBQ Reggae

So are you Hot Wookie on blogger, Tim?

cf. the comments on the post below, the first time I heard the term "BBQ reggae" before.

Go the edgy internet viral marketing...

Pig Out

// They totoally bridge the gap between rock and dance culture in a way that most other bands could only dream off.

Heh, that's it! They're dance music for people who aren't dance music fans! Tim, you heard a lot of that "nu rave" stuff that NME, iD etc. are championing in the UK? That "It's a rave Dave!" tune by Trash Fashion, The Klaxons, etc? Basically indie bands covering rave anthems and whatever else, all being lionised for "bridg[ing] the gap between rock and dance culture".

Anyway, it's good synchronicity with the Pig Out album release... hope you manage to score another Pitchfork review with this one.
