Earthquake Heart by the Dirtbombs
I guess you mean whether or not someone else is already using the name?
I'd try searching on these sites...
http://www.discogs.com
http://www.last.fm
Maybe http://www.gracenote.com or http://www.musicbrainz.com
and I guess http://www.allmusic.com
Yeah, sucks. No one's going to pay it enough attention and it'll get passed... still, had a go.

I think they're absolutely awful, but, you know, happy to help...
What genre was Scott Walker's last album?
Man, look at his list of sponsors...

Then again that involves giving them exactly the attention they want... ah the old double bind...
This has disappeared from Under The Radar. Was it seen to be perverting the course of justice or something?
Nice work, priority-wise I'll nominate a search function.
I also think the ambiguity / WTFness of being able to comment on a wiki page or in a separate forum for any given artist would be a good one to tackle, in terms of finding info / navigating / good visitor experience stuff.
Shut down comments on wiki pages and automagically link to the appropriate artist forum with a "click here to discuss this" type link?
Go the other way, and automagically generate blank wiki page for every artist in the artist forums, consolidate the comments from the artist forums to the wiki ones, then destroy that forum? Ouch. Sounds like lots of work.
Yeah, I agree it's really lame. That said, trying to break out of it often looks pretty damn try hard. Here's [http://www.rcrdlbl.com/artists/all a bunch of newish bands] and although there are plenty of standing staring at the camera shots, some of the not-like-that posed ones are a bit ... gah.
I quite like these ones of German band The Notwist where each member is spilling his coffee...

So they've done another one, less yawn-rock and more yawn-electronica instead. ;)
They're gone.
[decided to delete it]
This is a venue list:

Not from CHCH so can't vouch for its completeness.
Yeah, first thing I thought of was Dobbyn singing "otherwise fine" - could sound like "illa-wise fine"?
For me it's not about the look, I reckon this is much cooler looking than it has been (although sucky IE6 on this machine does break it quite horribly) it's about being able to find any content at all with any kind of ease.
Also, throwing out all the content about NZ artists in favour of a wiki would've been awesome if there was an enthusiastic user base dedicated to updating stuff, but... well... When I was bored and unemployed I made a monster list of bookmarks for all the artists on the Nature CD series and in Grant Smithies' Soundtrack book and a couple of other ones that came to mind, with the intention of adding in some artists people actually know, but there's not much point when no one can find the information once it's been added.
I get the impression the upgrade has fucked it. I've written what I think needs to be improved in the help forum.
Um, he's a DJ. I don't think he writes music. What stuff of his are you after?
Um, your link to this topic from the frontpage is broken, as a starter. :|
Looks like this:
http://www.nzmusic.com/http://www.nzmusic.com/content/site-overhaul-issu...
Some white space or a clear separator between each topic in a forum would be nice.
The link colours in the body text are very close to black - either throw in the underline standard or make them blatantly different. E.g. in the Mukuna Gig Picks bit on the sidebar there... the title links are OK I guess, but the ones in the body are lost.
Viewing in IE7 on Windows if you think it's some CSS vs. browser dumbness.
