Oh for interests sake!

the social aspect, i guess. seeing who from the old days is still about, still in bands or making music ... Where Are They Now ...

visit every so often to see if there's any discussion ala music-nerdness. but as i said on another post, i mostly hang out somewhere else for that sort of talk/fix.

as for the music/gigs news, myspace has pretty much replaced that as a source of info/ability to surf randomly thru friends and discover new NZ bands.

Problems

i still visit every few ... weeks *sob*

mostly hang out at another music website now, for that fix of music-nerdness discussion.

miss the old times here, but.

Summarise

looks great on Mac OS 10.5.2 Safari 3.1. great to see that "at a glance" feature back! thanks!

NZ Music - where were you in 87?

i was in high school & listening to way too much U2 (was the year of Joshua Tree?). shudder. not a bad album, but i'm pretty sure i played it way too often. i think i can re-listen to Exit off it, but no other track. i'm not prepared to try for a few more decades though.

i had no idea there was NZ music :o at least as far as bands who played decent idiosyncratic original non-overseas-derived music. that discovery didn't come until my later years of high school when i was deciding where to go for uni. by that stage the music scene in Dunedin was the clincher!

Where's all the traffic?

mixes!?

you know, i've known you for billions of years Christianity, but i have no idea who you are :D

but you know my band is mixing. :?

well, at least that has narrowed it down to about ... 20 people ... :D

actually, we are past the mix stage now, thanks to Thom Bell getting back from his sound-guy duties in Aussie - he is our 5th member/George Martin, heh, he should be polishing the second mastering as i type. gonna have a listen to them tonight - are only days/weeks away from pressing it into physical form! yay - it has been a delightful saga, as usual. why more people aren't in bands is way beyond my comprehension.

Where's all the traffic?

i just get lost on the new style site. with the old version i knew instantly where new stuff was ... there's so much new stuff here i just get overwhelmed ...

i just wish the architecture was a bit more simple or obvious.

i still listen to music ALL THE TIME according to my last.fm page & my need for new turntable needles :D

what is the plan for 2008

i've been working real hard last few years, putting in some horrific hours, so this year i'm pulling it all back. not doing so much teaching, managed to finish my thesis, so have cleared a fair bit of time to get back to writing songs/navel gazing. hope more people post wotsup, would be interested in catching up with what people have done/plan for the next while.

I Love Band Practice

band practise is magical. there's not many things better than coming along with the early embryo of a song, and just jamming it out and it magically forms before your eyes/ears thanks to the groovy telepathic people steering the jugganaut with you. fracking awesome. that and recording: completely awesome.

Free Points for all

why hi? is this a test? is this thing on? i'm paranoid!

HELP!

i'm pissed at the result.

i think you should make a new sport out of piling a whole lot of tracksuits, + petrol + flame. cos they gotta be sweatshop made anyway.

ggrrrrrrr. Plank was superior.

Problems

is anyone else getting Page Not Found on just about everything? or is it just me and my Safari, or am i looking during a fix-up session?

C4's NZ MUSIC MONTH ADS

i'm totally not at all over kiwi music, and almost everyone i know plays it or listens to it incessantly. the muh'space network has really added to the headache of keeping up with it all - so many undiscovered noodling musicians on it, people who never play live, never go out to expose their music, and new musicians and new innovative tunes turn up all the time. my broadband data limit nearly zeroes out each month and i have new stuff to push onto the local bNet NZ music djs each week and my mp3 player is chocka with it.

but otherwise i get what you're saying re getting unheard or heard international musicians/techies over, more the merrier obviously.

C4's NZ MUSIC MONTH ADS

it seems to me that only the blokes are talking (though I have seen the Brooke-centric one) and the wimmin are eating and listening like good wimmin. (except for Jane Yee too) in fact there seems to be a lot of shots where people are stuffing their gobs. are they famished, haven't had a good meal in yonks? it looks like a cooking show, very Top Chef.

still, i'm glad they're even on and being broadcasted. i'd be interested in seeing extended versions too.

C4's NZ MUSIC MONTH ADS

where's the NZ MM TV special on things like A Camp Low Hum

absofrickenlutely. it was so ... [words fail me] to get back home and see all the BDO footage on the music shows/channels, Camp Low Hum completely absent/unmentionable for reasons way beyond my logic.

bailterSpace

w00t!!!!!!!!!! i can't wait till i get to a decent speed computer to watch them there goodies!!!!!

have been heading inland to Central Otago a fair bit lately - thrashing Wammo and Capsul, the only sound track for the Kawarau gorge's dangerous corners at night (at a legal speed ... but one night there were all these moths, it was like moth-rain flakes, mass migration ... ) anyway, super keen for new sounds.

What are your outrageous rider demands?

cakes and fine wines. the finest wines known to humanity!!!!!

Who's that song by? #9867087

"Watch This Space" is great. was amused to see new Dinosaur Jr song on it (time has not been kind to everyone on earth but Thurston Moore) and nicely connected Tunic by Sonic Youth, which is a terrifically amateur low-fi video, the likes of which i never thought i'd ever see on tele. and more besides - "Watch This Space" is turning out to be like the golden age of music videos, where you used to watch and used to get surprised or challenged by stuff, instead of stuporfied.
