Devil Rider : 24 December 2007 - 7:13pm

Devil Rider : 24 December 2007 - 7:10pm

another note on this topic...when the Beatles resigned with EMI (i think in the 90's) they made a clause in their contract that all beatles material would sell at the HIGHEST STANDARD PRICE IN EVERY TERRITORY ALWAYS! so you can get Neil Young records for $18.85 Van Morrison's Astral Weeks for $10 and Humble Pies Greatest Hits for $1.50 but Help! will forever be $34.95

Devil Rider : 17 November 2007 - 3:22pm

i thought this was gonna be a forum about nathan hickey..aka nato

Devil Rider : 1 November 2007 - 9:49pm

whats wrong with Pluto? They are usually great live. I am rather looking forward to their new record myself. I arrived at this show really late and only saw Crowded House. It was great and I even liked their new stuff...it was dark and moody.

Devil Rider : 25 October 2007 - 3:27pm

Devil Rider : 2 October 2007 - 10:27pm

far out.... poor dude. must not have had good enough hook ups for the weed ow in NZ.

Devil Rider : 2 October 2007 - 12:11pm

ARGHRGHDSHDMHSDMMMmmmmm

That box set looks hot.

The normal CD doesn't come out till early next year.

Apparently its a sneaky move where by they kept telling media that the album wouldn't be ready for a long time then band here is the album....blah blah. bypass it getting leaked to the net by leaking it yourselves. and THEN let people pay what they want. Its almost like a challenge to fans. You like our music enough to sneak it around from stolen pre mastered CDRs so do you like it enough to pay for a digital version.

Its very cool. Quite unpretentious and totally Radiohead

Devil Rider : 29 September 2007 - 3:34pm

the brunettes got a front page review

Devil Rider : 24 July 2007 - 12:04am

Samuel Flynn Scott is a Wellington songwriter from the band The Phoenix Foundation. He has released one solo album The Hunt Brings Us Life but usually performs the songs off it with his band Bunnies On Ponies. They also play on the album. So he is not really a solo performer. He also has a band called Custard Pirates but they are too awesome to even think about. So stop thinking about them Custardy tunesmiths!

Oh my god when did Paul join The Band? He must get me Levon Helms number.

Devil Rider : 29 May 2007 - 2:08pm

Hmm thats interesting Jet as Norah Jones recorded he last record at home which must mean a serious dip in cost compared to her earlier fancy studio albums. I may be ill informed.

I really hope the Bluenote thing goes well for Holly its a big risk signing a multi-album deal but her manager is pretty on to it and fairly responsible for signing Breaks Co-op to Parlophone I believe so he should be able to weigh up the evils of the different companies.

Its funny this offloading of the majors little sub labels. They often have much better return (in ratio to investment) than the flagship labels/artists and much less risk. I actually think we may see a new era where labels break off from their major chains and go back to the investor indy label scenario that kicked arse in the late fifties. Atlantic being the prime example.

anyway blah de blah... GOOD LUCK HOLLY!

Devil Rider : 28 May 2007 - 12:11pm

Hey dudezez, yep the old chaps of The Phoenix Foundation are strappin on their depend undies and heading back to the states. Eagle Versus Shark for which we made the soundtrack is getting its full theatrical release and we shall be chasing it around america as well as playing shows with the exceptional UK/NZ band The Veils. We are also doing shows with Voxtrot, Au Revoire Simone and a party for The Flight Of The Conchords.

it should all be rather fun... here is some press spaz and our tour dates. tell your friends cousin in Boston to come along!

Devil Rider : 8 May 2007 - 11:49pm

How did Rosie sneak on there? She is very out of place seeing as everyone else around that table is comercial radio fodder but to be honest if they did let her speak she would probably speak a lot more sense than most of the crap I've heard.

Seriously got my goose up. Dave Gibson is pretty funny and nice chap as far as I can tell but rabbiting on about lame it is to sing in a NEW ZEALAND accent!!!!!! Shit man we're New Zealanders. If he can sing like a 14 year old emo brat from Canada then whats so wrong with drawwwwin' out a fyew wowds eh? Dark Tower are not amused I'm sure.

It makes me think of Letterbox Lambs. Best NZ guitar band of the 90s hands down. Kiwi accents. Zero sales. Stupid public.

Um this my longest nzmusic rant in ages. I feel like an alcoholic having a sneaky gin after rehab.

and yes we should drop the NZ from NZ Music Month.

brand NZ= barf instead

Devil Rider : 28 April 2007 - 2:53am

Man I have played two really great shows there in the last couple of months. Its a scuz pot but it has something special about it. OH SHIT AND I LEFT MY UKULELE THERE!

Devil Rider : 5 April 2007 - 4:15pm

i like your 'headline'

funny auto header thing

Devil Rider : 4 April 2007 - 5:31pm

PUblic Address has some good info on this. As usually Russel Brown is fairly well informed and balanced in his artist copywrite versus public good via coporate greed arguments. One of the issues here is that EMI is in dire financial doldrums (apparently...i'm sure the beatles keep them fairly buoyant) and being the first label to offer DRM free stuff means they will be the ones to cash in on the publicity etc.

Devil Rider : 2 April 2007 - 11:08pm

Ok..here is some bullshit.

Samuel Flynn Scott and Lawrence Arabia are pleased to announce a tour:
by THEM
(i.e Samuel Flynn Scott and Lawrence Arabia)

for YOU
(i.e. parochial citizens of New Zealand)

in VARIOUS PLACES
(specifically AUCKLAND, WELLINGTON, CHRISTCHURCH and DUNEDIN)

to REVEAL
DOC’s secret Haast’s Eagle breeding programme

In an unprecedented display of solidarity, “the best young songwriter in New Zealand today,”* Samuel Flynn Scott, and “probably New Zealand’s greatest modern songwriter,”** Lawrence Arabia are heading out on the road in April and performing each others songs , in a band, together!

WHY?
Because Scott has received insider information that DOC is secretly breeding Haast’s Eagle, Jurassic Park style, on a lushly enforested offshore island. Knowing his friend Arabia’s fondness for extinct species, he convinced him to return from his London exile to form what could only be described as The Ultimate New Zealand Supergroup, a veritable mighty totara to the emaciated lancewood sapling of “Finn Runga Dobbyn 2000.” Samuel and Lawrence will be joined on the road by the Duo Orchestra of Craig Terris (Cassette) and Tom Callwood (Little Bushmen). Splendid.

With the all-powerful spirit of Kiwi Music behind them, Samuel Flynn Scott and Lawrence Arabia have unilaterally begun Phase Six of Kiwi Music’s expansion into all spheres of life, the purpose of which is to get the beardy denizens of DOC to reveal their dirty little secret: The Haast Eagle Breeding Programme.

Lend your support to the campaign at the following venues:

Friday April 13 – Wellington - San Francisco Bathhouse
Saturday April 14 – Auckland – Schooner Tavern
Friday April 20 – Christchurch – Dux De Lux
Saturday April 21 – Dunedin – Arc Cafe

Tickets available from Cosmic Corner and Real Groovy for the fee of $15 +bf

Devil Rider : 2 April 2007 - 11:06pm

wow this is great. its nice to have a newer look but mainly it all loads up much faste. Good stuff dudes!

will we be able to post pictures/you tuve vids etc.

Devil Rider : 2 April 2007 - 11:00pm

Voom are very good. B Your Boy is probably my least favourite track off either of their albums. They are capable of much weirder stuff.

Devil Rider : 30 January 2007 - 1:20am

bdo 07 = the worst line up ever..... it makes me mad for some reason.

lots of good nz bands but international rubbish. and i would much rather see any of those nz bands in a bar with better sound and no drunk teenagers.
