David Bain is convicted of murder goes to jail for 13 yeats.
Popular media stories portray David Bain as wrongly convicted, after case is quashed by privy council David Bain becomes a popular (well not quite media darling) figure to some extent... at least plenty of media people were eager to wipe his arse for him.
New case is brought forward by the crown, millions wasted in a trail that had already been decided prior to going to court. David Bain is found not guilty to the excitement of the media who ooze glee at the result and with in days start there 'was David Bain really a killer campaign'...
David Bain in prison = innocent wrongly imprisoned man.
Innocent David Bain = Really did it.
Aren't we awesome.... I just felt like having a rant...
Hah, yeah, that takes me waaayyyyy back... for that matter so does stardrunk, I didn't even know they were still going as a band.
Hey everyone, currently the band I'm in is shopping around to record its first EP and thought I'd call on some of your experiences.
We can record with one guy who is brilliant, most amazing recordings, huge sound, epic, right up there with the quality of any cd in my rather vast cd collection. However all wonderful things come at a cost (given the quality its not huge, but still a bit rich for our collective blood).
So anyway, what studios are out there (Auckland/Waikato area prefered), who gives good bang for buck. Ideally we're looking for a package price, so 5/6 track EP for $x,xxx.xx rather than an hourly rate which could quickly balloon out on us.
We play heavier music, with a lot of melodic passages as well as some brutal ones (I assume different studios and engineers are better with different genres?).
cheers
I always find it interesting how some people relentlessly complain how the bars are closed and all the shops are closed... yet still enjoy having the days off work.
In one sense its like saying I'm going to enjoy my time off work, but I want to go shopping so you mr retail employee should not. (yes I realise many retail stores would prefer to remain open).
**Irony with the person who recently complained about the bars shutting at mid night and being closed on good friday is that his wife doesn't let him go out anyway...
Figure this might make for a fun topic.
Mates stag is coming up, he does not drink so I thought it would be fun to make him do some shots... remembering he doesn't drink, so I'm thinking hot source, worcester source etc, each shot being a little worse than the previous.
Any ideas what we can add to the list, looking to do half a dozen shots (they have to be possible to drink, no peeing in the shot glass etc, mind you apple juice for the last shot might make him nervous)
***If yr just a wannabe you can always practice in a school hall or a cow paddock coz thats as far as yoll get.***
whats wrong with cow paddocks, we practice out on the farm cause it's free and we can make as much noise as we like with out the noise control complants :)
I've heard an advert on the radio advertising a bar called the flying nun on empire street in cambridge that has live music every night including open mic nights. Was wondering if anyone out there has any information about it, such as what nights are the open mics, whats the vibe and such, what kind of music do people play?
Cheers guys.
Okay regardless of what you think of the program or the potential evil some people proclaim it to have unleashed on the world... I have struck a problem and need a little help (after failing google and finding the help index to much hassle).
Anyway, for some reason when I hit record its decided it wants to record all tracks, eg: I'll be recording a guitar track on track two, but track two will not only record the guitar but the drum track from track 1 (you may see how this would be annoying for me). The odd thing is earlier this afternoon it was working fine (not doing the double recording thing) so I figured I must have clicked something to cause this but have no idea what. Anyone else had this problem and/or know the solution? Thanks.
Yes, I think our views have often aligned in the past :)
I was formerly chronickiwi :)
(While subjective) I'd suggest by the absolute rubbsh popular music we hear on air and see on tv music videos from international artists, quality has nothing to do with sellability to the world. Quality of music is also not defined by an artist being on a record label (or label of significance) hense why they seek additional funding. As for music labels stumping up cash for cash, they're a business designed to make money, they sign and invest in artists themselves to make money for themselves and adopt risk so why should the government be helping fund there business? But again I guess that's my bias on how funding should be used... dude.
Thanks for the response, I guess ones views are probably most directly related to there own situation hence why I can not have an unbiased view. I myself am in a band that has recently done a little recording (of good quality - in my opinion) and thoughts of seeking video funding in the next round were somewhat dampened after seeing the big name artists. I realise that there is new artists funding too, but our recordings are 'radio quality' (whether they're radio friendly would be to the ear of the listener)... anyway I digress, point being I have a bias view on who should get funding.
On the principal of "politics of presence" as you referred it, I can understand why NZOA would support already established artists as an easier way to maintain kiwis on air/tv rather than risking artists who may break through and disappear just as fast.
Sorry to disappoint (and as much as I'd like to take the accolade) I'm actually a former regular from a few years back, just have a new profile. Funnily enough though even though I used to use the forums a fair bit I don't think I ever got involved in this particular debate :)
Could be nz music forum topic, but whatever, its kind of general opinion.
I've not applied for video funding but have seen the list of artist receiving money ($5000) to go towards there music video for the selected song. Does NZ on air receive a royalty when these videos are played? reason I ask is because of the list of 25 or so artists, almost all of them were quite well known, if not very well known. I understand the critera is to support songs with commerica potential, but if there is no financial gain or subsidy for the success of the funded videos, then wouldn't it be better to support more unknown artists with potential to break through?
I'm aware that there is not a lot of money in music for most NZ artists, even well known ones, but in my opinion such funding should be for trying to bring through new artists. It almost seems a little redundant to fund artists who are already known and will have there videos go ahead and go to air regardless of the funding (assumption). It seems to me they're funding projects that would go ahead regardless of funding and would be better to support lesser known artists or alternatively fund our top artists to push them internationall, maybe fund an international tour (while expensive could be done more cost effectively than many would imagine, just look at touring hardcore bands).
Anyway, thats my 2 cents... thoughts?
