Look out for exact dates and venues.
Great to hear AKA. Yes it is weird, I know that the guys were a bit bummed and o then give a good performance speaks volumes. I guess they are just paying their dues. We have big plans for them though.
PS quoting Zappa destroys your argument as he was part of the vanguard of very clever marketing to what was wanted at the time.
Ed you are stating to be like my cat, lovable, amuzing sometimes but by god it is annoying when it jumps on the desk while I edit,
I love Shakespeare but i find the Bronte sisters work tedious and boring
I love Pendereki and his syphonies written for the voice espeacially his requim but i find meandering New Age music empty of imagination.
I love broccoli my wife hates it.
it is simply a matter of choice
in NZ we now have this great embracing of American ghetto music and we celebrate it as a part of the Pacific culture. Is it wrong? No. how can you or any-one judge what others find enriching.
It is not only pretentious but sad, I am all for you searching for your true self. Go for it mate because without it one becomes a sad, sour angst ridden induvidual who blames every-one else for their failure to find happiness.
Go well and be good.
Hey guys thats the way things go so just hang in there, Now is the time to really get serious and put the work in. I know you guys The Housewives will rock the gig. And we will get that Wellie gig and tour happening
Go Hard!!
Hi jesse I spoke to the guys yesterday and they were a disapointed that some of thecrowd felt let down, but they are determined to learn from the experience.
Monkeypuzzle it sounds better all the time. I will defenitely fly down for that.
This will be my last post on this subject because I believe that it serves no purpose.
the reason?
//be addressed by mass media they make a mutant disney /christian moronic simplificaion // to me this is a very stereo typical statement. I am not a christian nor a fan of disney. Yet it annoys me that when some-one whats to make an impression in a discussion the "chritian" card is always a good standby. you can as easily replace the word christian with jewish, muslim, hindi or atheist . A collective believe system has no input into this discussion.
I do agree with you on one point ed. And that is that the media (TV, Radio, underground magazines0 only give the point of veiw of the correspondent.
I work in film and television. I make documentaries. Is it of any value other than entertainment? offcourse not!! No matter the subject I will always do it from my point of veiw.
//this doesn't sound so bad... but beyond what we're not talking about that's going on in our own hearts - there's a whole world of absolute obscenity going on in poverty stricken countrys - and even in the domestic situation around us here in paradaisical NZ - youth RIP//
my 2 final points. People like Bono has done a damn sight more for those in dire staits overseas than I ever have or will be able to do. So did Bob geldorf. But we can knock that as well with the Christian white middleclass male argument.
And lastly. When I get together with friends we seem to talk rugby, or go diving and the like....maybe we are to shallow to get caught up in the mass media manipulation thing...
Feedback on the gig last night any-one?
MotherGuru? Aka ?
How did it go?
And for apologize for my spelling and grammar, English is not my first language.
Ed I feel that I have to reply to your post.
Did I shoot you down- Oh yes that was the intention. I dont know you and those who know me will attest to the fact that that sort of behavior is out of character for me. so why?
"so far... thanks to recording devices (the enemy of art) all of these spectra have been well explored and dissected and injected with steroids / silicone" Staements like these really piss me off. I am all for discussion but there is an old saying "put the brain in gear before opening the mouth. Art cannot survive without recording devices. The painter paints with brush on paper - recording device
The musician writes his music in notes (those who can ) recording device
The author writes a book - pen and paper recording device.
Even in the times before pen and paper - songs were learned and passed on. - preserving it or if you want recording it.
As to your post being simple - i fear not, it is opinions dressed up in flowery and language and metaphors to disguise it as deep thought out reasoning.
If you like pop then so be it, if country is your thing cool. Every-one has the ability to appreciate art or entertainment, however I pisses me off when people think that they understand art, creativity and or originality better than others. By what authority? by knowlegde gained how? listening to others/ devine inspiration.
And finally I went to art school and did a degree, then a masters. My major was sculpting. Did it make me a better artist / no It made me an artist that observes what is happening around him more. I make a living in the creative world. But not as a sculptor. That is my private art.
Ed if you take offence then so be it. However remember that the "artist" that diss other art forms and artists had better be right at the top of the pile otherwise it is very easy to be dismissed as a wannabe. No I am not implying that that is where you fit in the scheme of things.....i am just thinking things thruogh.
Send them thru I have been checking your site every few days to see if you guys have posted music yet, but no luck. the email is above.
Costs can be kept quite low. If you guys are keen it might work for you and sven to chat to charl and dan and work a rough plan on how to do it. Then we can all have a look at the finances.
We can handle the promotions from up here. But chat to charl and the boys first.
PS Anime can you send us something to listen to bokkie@oysterfilms.co.nz
Cheers
Jesse maybe this can develop into a complete NI tour. I am orginising some beach pub gigs for the housewives. Dan from Sideshifter/monkey Puzzle seems pretty on to it and it should be a huge show; SS, MPler, Housewives and Anime. If you guys make the big treck further North we can arrange that. At the moment we are looking at the following:
Raglan, The Mount, Orewa/Whangaparaoa and PiHia.
Chat to Charl and see what you guys can come up with.
Give me a break, pseudo intellectual bullshit that i thought I left behind at art school in the 70s
According to your premise Ed we are all emptyheaded tossers who need to be told what is good by a select few who understand art. Give us a break.
A very famous anti apartheid poet called Breyten Breytenbach while in jail for his beliefs penned a poem about the white waves smashing themselves against the black rocks of Still Bay, the sad pseudo intellectuals hailed it as a master piece describing the racial struggle in South Africa...
To which he replied "No I was only remebering the last time I was there before I came to jail....
Art and music is not some deep meaningful livechanging gift.. it is first and formost there for the enjoyment of the artist and if others like it.. so be it.
That goes for punk as much as country or classical music.
Comments like yours always seem to me to have a hint of envey, a dash of desperation and a whole lot of sour grapes.
Your opinion is valid only as much as any one elses.
Hey Jesse and Doomtree good luck with the semis. We enjoyed your company after the regionals.
That song of yours, drinking our beer is still going around in my head. I suppose it is because you guys and the housewives cleared us out of beer that night.
All the best and good luck.
On ya Mluvr I wholeheartedly agree.
Haha MP be careful that would just give the boys big heads posts like that.
They would be thrilled I am sure to support you guys.
I sent you a couple of emails.
regards
That is a big call MP and one that I believe would blow the guys away. It is always an honour to have an established muso say that they would like to play with you.
i'll let them know. When are you off to Aus?
The jazz version of the Housewives The Groove collective has 3 or 4 gigs over the next month
I dont know when The housewives are gigging next.
I would still like to have mother guru get in touch with me.. mail bokkie@oysterfilms .co.nz
Thats cool jimi...Those shows are not really creatively challenging are they?
I never got to see you guys live allthough Joe did play me cd.
Are all you guys still playing?
Joe is an amazing drummer. Very passionate and technicly brilliant. And the combination of Dan and Joe is stunning. i think that when you have a rythm section that is that good and that tight you are going to sound good no matter what.
