Why thank you Dave - it was certainly a pleasure doing our first gigs in Welly, we're hoping to get down there again in July sometime. Big thanks to everyone down there who played with us, lent us gear, came to the shows and let us sleep in their house! Stayed tuned for website update happeniong any day now and the the new video which should be gracing your tv screens in the coming weeks. The current single "Do you feel the cold" is on Channel Z now - ring and request it! It'll packaged up with 2 b sides and the video on an enhanced cd out very very soon.....
Saw Jakob live for first time last night - instore at Real Groovy in Ak. Bloody nice. I have some recordings of theirs but it was a real treat seeing them live. They got a good reaction in what would have been quite a hard place to play. The bassist was great, love the hair!
Tourist are currently in the studio recording their 2nd independent release ep. It's sounding great so far, but we're still searching for a drummer! We'd like to get someone who is dedicated and professional in attitude and has got a good feel for what fits into a song. If you think this is you, drop us a line and we'll get you a copy of the old ep, and the new one when it's mixed and mastered. Choice.
Hello,
Tourist are currently are looking for a drummer. If you think this might be you, visit our website (www.touristsound.com), listen to the mp3's, write to us and let us know.
Thankyou
Hello.
Tourist are currently loking for a new drummer. If you're an experienced drummer and you dig our stuff (check it out at www.touristsound.com) drop us a line thru the website. Even if this is not you, let your drummer friends know!
We're not huge, but we need someone with a professional attitude.
Thankyou
Regardless of whether or not you dig d4 or the datsuns don't begrudge them their success. Both of them slaved for years around NZ playing gigs anywhere. d4 have their roots in nothing at all who did 99 gigs in one year (mid 90's), how many bands can say that? The fact is NZ, and auckland in particular has had a 'garage' rock scene for ages, even when it was spectacularly uncool. Think of all the frisbee bands - shaft, rock n roll machine, the fuzz etc etc etc. Just cos you don't like datsuns or d4, don't bag it - these guys have put in an incredible amount of work to get where they are, we should respect them. for it.
We need a drummer! We've been together for a few years now - currently recording an ep, need a committed professional (although unpaid for the moment) musician. We're playing a few gigs before our drummer leaves - Dogs Bollix Thurs 7th Aug is next one. Check us out or contact us through website if interested - can send you ep so you know what we sound like. BTW we're called Tourist
poos news.
i heard through the old rumour machine that fantomas (or was it tomahawk or was it bungle?) was going to be on BDO bill last year but Anthony Keidis had them chucked off. Remember the old "Patton's biting my style" bullshit from late 80's? Any confirmation of this rumour from anyone out there?
Notice that it's only a pilots hat; he's just wearing a blue blazer - no epuleautes or anything else to denote *pilot*. I don't think he's really a pilot at all
my 5 cents (seeing as there is no 2 cents no more)
Matt Eccles - betchadupa (even though he's australian)
Nick Gafferney - anika moa + heaps of others
Basically anyone who plays a fat swinging groove without jizzing off over the song is great.
Chops are good to have, just don't play them all the time, that';s what I reckon
And the dude from Trinity Roots. Actually, all TR's members would be up the top in their respective categories for NZ musicians
I suppose it depends on what genre you're talking of.....
However my picks for best guitarist (and remember folks, just cos you can rip thru your scales really really fast, doesn't make you good - Yngwie Malmsteen anyone?)
Paul Urbana Jones - for being true to himself
Neil Watson - for being a fucking good guy and bloody entertaining to boot (the blends, tim finn, anika moa etc etc)
Just forgotten his name but the dude from Trinity Roots - effects, soul, tastyness
Jeremy Toy - various shit but best over his stuff with Open Souls, jazzy hip hop.
Feel free to disagree, that's the beauty of forums
Oh, and Billy TK junior and senior (did you know that senior played with hendrix and was proclaimed by the man himself as being amazing - says it all)
I don't think anyone in a 'pop' band is really amazing overtly - but 'pop' band guitarists have to think of the song first rather than their egos - if they;re any good. Chris van der Geer is a good example of being really talented but not wanking over songs.....
oops, just realised that I never said that last rant was directed at CUNT eyes. (Career Unlikely No Talent)
Sorry, first time caller long time listener
I can't even begin to express how much you irritate me. Just fuck off and stop expressing your retarded opinions on bands forums. Seriously, I know you think you're cleverer than everyone else and we should all pay attention to you, BUT NO ONE CARES!
PS: you attitude will ensure that you never ever get laid. Have you figured that out yet?
I am so enraged that you would wish cancer on someone you don't even know. You are a grade A loser. Really, just a chump. I can't believe I just wasted my time slagging you.
Thanks Aquatic Ape.
Regarding sound - it sounded awesome in the studio when we recorded the piece. Our friends at the taping said it sounded great out front and it was definitely the best monitor mix we've ever had onstage. I thought that the broadcast mix didn't really reflect the performance on the day - but I guess that they've got to take into account that people watching on their 14" tv with the 1" speaker need to hear it all too (ie: they can't mix it in a "hi-fi" way). Anyway - we had a great time doing it and hope to be invited back sometime.
