Hey...
What's up? I'm a 19 year old singer/guitarist...sorta been thinkin about getting a band together. Up for lots of things in terms of style, but particularly into pyschadelic rock, early goth stuff and just good song bands. Fav 3 bands would have to be The Smashing Pumkins, The Cure and Fleetwood Mac. Hmmm...those last two look a bit bizarre next to each other...
Other good bands...Joy Division, Queen, Dead Can Dance, Beatles, Fiona Apple, Bjork, Tori Amos, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, The Pogues, Nick Cave...yadda yadda, lots more.
btw, I just checked your old posts and noticed you were in Permafrost...my old band played a gig with you guys about 2 years ago...the 10 bands concert. Whispering Gallery, if you remember...
I'd like to know a bit more about the kind of style you wanna do...alternative rock seems to mean quite a few different things these days...
Anyway...
dreambrother@paradise.net.nz if you wanna talk more.
Bye...
Hi
I play guitar, as well as sing. I've been playing guitar for about six years, singing for about 2. I've fronted a few bands (singing, lead guitar, writing all the material) and have some good local success. So yeah, I would say I am good (a bit hard to answer the question without sounding egotistical!). I'm just looking for some like-minded people to team up with, rather than having to do all the work myself!
How about you and your friend...what do you two play, and how good are you?
Hello everyone...I'm looking for some like-minded people to come together for a band.
I want it to be based around the concept of groups like Fleetwood Mac , The Eagles and The Beatles; not neccessarily in terms of the style of music, but more like having multiple singers and songwriters, big vocal harmonies etc.
I'd like the style of the band to be, above all, eclectic...as long as there is a focus on good, intelligent songs, it would be cool not to have the band confined to one particular kind of sound.
I myself am 19, and I guess I would prefer to be playing with people in the vicinity of that age...give or take a few years on either side. And living around Wellington, of course.
So if anyone is at all interested, give me an email - dreambrother@paradise.net.nz - and we'll talk some more.
thanks!

Our drummer is really into jazz...in fact he is about to start to start a jazz drumming course at Massey.
Our old bass player was heavily influenced by bands like Primus, RHCP etc, so he didn't play the bass like it was just a backing instrument. That said, he wasn't popping and slapping all over the place, as that wouldn't work in the context of this band, but he took a more subtle and melodic approach to his playing and it really added another dimension to the music.
Some of the stuff I'm into is...The Cure, Pink Floyd, Dead Can Dance, Bjork, Jeff and Tim Buckley, The Smashing Pumpkins, Led Zep, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos. I love the early 80s goth sound, as well as 70's psychadelic/progressive stuff, and really anything that has a strong songwriting focus...I never really got into bands like Primus, cause their style seems a bit too erratic to me. Similarly, technical bands like Dream Theater...nothing wrong with being able to play your instrument fast, but a 4 minute solo section of constant shredding is a bit over the top imo.
So there you go...a bit more about what we are into...
Hi there...
My band is trying to snatch up a bass player; our current one is heading back to Otago for university, so we got a space to fill.
We've only been jamming together a couple of months now. The band is a 5 piece; Lead vocals/guitar, guitar, keys, bass and drums. It's definitely a rock band, but with quite a psychadelic-ambient twist. We're all in the 18-20 range, so someone around that age would probably be best. It's all original songs. Basically, we want someone who has a bit of personality in their playing, not someone who is just going to chug away on root notes the entire time.
So lemme know if that's anything like what you are looking for, and we'll talk more if you are interested.
Cheers
Nic
Hi there...my band and I are seeking a keyboardist to complete the line up to a four piece band, currently consisting of vocals/guitar, bass and drums.
I don't want to pigeonhole the style the band is playing, but to give a basic idea of the sound, I guess it's sort of got elements of progressive-psychadelic-ambient rock. Lots of people make Pink Floyd comparisons (although I don't hear it myself!). All original material, of course!
Anyone between the ages of 16 and 21 would be great. Vocal talent (for harmony) would surely be a plus, but ambition would be fantastic.
We all live in and around the Wellington region.
If you're interested at all, get in touch and we'll discuss it more. Thanks!
Hi there everyone...I was wondering if anyone could recommend and give me the contact details of any singing teachers in the Wellington region? I'm not really looking for a teacher who specializes in any particular style, just one who is clued up on all the fundamental techniques. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
