Anyone in Tokyo (heh.. hmm) come to a-bridge on Sunday night for a quiet evening of mellow vibes. I'll be played a 45 minute laptop set.
Details below:
News for music-making nerrrrds, the first official release of the music application Audiomulch came out just recently and features 5 example files written by me (Michael Upton). It's a great product and I'm very chuffed to have had a bit of involvement with it. Over 95% of the Montano album is written with this cheap and grunty software. Other freaks using it include Four Tet, Nine Inch Nails, Manitoba / Caribou and Auckland's Rosy Parlane (ex-Thela).
Another free MP3 uploaded
I've uploaded an unreleased track from last year to nonwrestler.com. It's called 'Awry Smile'. The rhythm feel is a pretty blatant attempt to co-opt the style of one of my favourite hip-hop producers, Jay Dee. I find mourning of public figures a little odd, but I was sad to hear that he died at only 32 last month, and figured now might be an appropriate time to share the tune around.
The two interviews thing will be a great opportunity to monitor how much shit I talk - I'll have to at least keep my yarns internally consistent. ;)
I'm being interviewed tomorrow night on Fleet FM in AKL, some time between 4 and 6, and again on 95bfm on Timmy Schumacher's show between 7 and 9.
Please tune in. It should be better than, say, sitting in an airport waiting for your plane to get fixed... only 2 hour delay so far, they hope only 1-2 more. Wickedness increased.
Restrained poster for Wellington gig in a couple of weeks' time:

As well as the gigs listed in the artist news, I will be guest DJ on Radio Active's Deep show, Tuesday 23rd August. Looking forward to playing a bunch of great Australian ambient / electronic listening acts.
Oops, just to make it clear, all acts at the Wellington gig are producers presenting their own, original electronic stuff.
Aquaboogie, Group Five, and I were all in a group called Monkey Shuttle that used to get a good amount of play on Active back in the mid 90s. About the time Shanan / Octif was playing in Oblique with the guys from Skallander.
Nice, just found out from my brother that another of my tunes has been playlisted on Air New Zealand.
Apparently as part of a show about artists who performed at the Big Day Out, which is pretty funny given I've never been to one, even as part of the crowd.
And thanks to the Phoenix boys for giving me sooo much material to play with. Fun fun fun.

I've just put a remix I did for these guys back around the time of 'True' up on my site. Unfortunately it never got onto a CD anywhere, but with their kind permission it's now free for download.

Choiceness! I got the OK to upload another of the remixes I have done which hasn't seen release.
Trinity Roots' 'Just Like You' off 'True'. Will let you know when it's up.
Jet Jaguar and Octif are also being interviewed about their Montano project on Radio Active Thursday night, about 9-9.30.
Embarrassing juvenilia for the masses!
In August 1995 an ambient outfit called MonkeyShuttle did a live-to-air performance on Radio Active. This involved me, a guy who now does stuff as Group Five, and a guy who now does stuff as Aquaboogie.
The recording of the performance is available for free download, courtesy Wellington's Angry Rabbit label and good old archive.org.
We all contributed detailed write-ups of what we remember of the night, some of which I think is a bit funny.
Here's the label page about the release:
