The Fanatics : 27 July 2005 - 3:55pm

Tonight we have an interview on Homegrown Late (C4, 10.30pm) to talk some crap and to show off the new video for "Buddy" which you may or may not have seen by now. We'll also be giving away two packs containing CD and vinyl copies of the EP, some badges and also a couple of promo only copies of a DVD compilation featuring all four of our music videos. Check it.

The Fanatics : 20 July 2005 - 6:59pm

The video for "Buddy" is premiering tonight on Homegrown Late (C4), so watch from 10:30pm onwards.

The video was shot in Tokyo and fucked up with these weird animations by our favourite weirdo and bona-fide genius Simon Ward. Simon also created the video for "Signal" and had a lot to do with the video for "TV". He is bloody good and we'd like to thank him and his mad friends (who are also bloody good) Gareth, Nick, Myles, Andy, Don, Lucie, Perraine, Dave, Liam, Lakshman, Matthew and Sean for their talent and hard work.

For those of you who don't know, "Buddy" is a cover of the classic song by the classic band Snapper. The song appears on their self-titled EP, which was released in 1988 and which you should really run out and grab a copy of. While you're at it you should also grab our self-titled EP, which was released in 2004 on CD and vinyl.

Joining us in Wellington is the legendary Cortina so you can be assured of a bloody good time. These will be our last two shows for a while (honest!) as we're concentrating on writing new songs for the album we plan to release later this year.

The Fanatics : 15 December 2004 - 6:54pm

2 DJs, 1 band, 10 hours, 1 place to be on New Year’s Eve

DJ's Bill E & Cling have been playing records around Wellington under the nothingelseon moniker for over 10 years. The faces behind the long running new wave/synth pop/80s night ATOMIC (est.1996), and the Madchester/Britpop night 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE (2003), they have also given us numerous other one-offs and semi-regular gigs such as: BUMP! (Funk), Luxuria (Electroclash), 1977(Punk), and Indie Night.

This NYE the boys have rolled the best of all their nights into a “cure-all” they call ATOMIC PHARMACY. From 8pm, through to 6am, Indigo will be providing the best alternative for a New Year in Wellington.

Drawing from everything from the latest indie, to glam, new wave, Madchester, Britpop, 80s synth pop and more, ATOMIC PHARMACY will bring you music from the likes of: Franz Ferdinand, Stone Roses, Madonna, New Order, Pixies, Bowie, Libertines, Strokes, Datsuns, Beastie Boys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Happy Mondays, Duran Duran, Smiths, De La Soul and much much more.

Capitalrecordings artists THE FANATICS (Auckland) will also be there to ring in the New Year with their explosive live show. This two-piece has followed proudly in the footsteps of un-likeminded duos Simon & Garfunkel and Lee & Nancy, captivating listeners the length of the country over the past year. Playing skewed electro-rock, The Fanatics blend dark electronic beats and programmed bass lines with taut angular guitar, and a definite knack for bent pop lurking somewhere in the mix. The duo of David Green (vocals, programming) and Tom Clark (vocals, guitar) punch above their weight in numbers, proving there’s no need for a rhythm section when you have a laptop, a guitar and bouncing off the walls live energy.

(that was taken straight from our bio, obvs)

At only $15, this is surely one of the best bang-to-buck ratios around. If you’ve been to one of their gigs before, you’ll know the mayhem that ensues.

Coupled with an expanded lighting rig, and a bigger dance floor, Indigo will be truly rocking to bring in 2005.

The Fanatics : 8 December 2004 - 4:08pm

Last week we had a crazy time in Wellington shooting the video for "Models", which is going to be the NZ music video equivalent (in epic-ness) to "Ben Hur" or something. A HUGE thanks to the eighty-odd people who slaved away for free over the three days of shooting, especially the lovely models who would have been freezing their asses off in the pool. The video, directed by Sticky Pictures' Mark Albiston, will be released to music TV in the coming weeks and is an absolute must-see.

We'd also like to thank Lady Luck, DJ Forge and Knave Knixx for playing at our wrap party, Nato, Georgie, James and Brendan for being legends and everyone else who helped out over the week. You rule.

The Fanatics : 29 November 2004 - 3:45pm

Oh, and fuck the sound guy for TOTP - he's trying to make us pay for two mics!

The Fanatics : 29 November 2004 - 3:44pm

If you're in Wellington tonight we're playing the Rock Cradle at Indigo with a band that (I think) is called Murder She Wrote. I don't know fuck-all about it but I'm pretty sure it's fuck-all to get in and drinks cost fuck-all too. We're on at 11:30pm.

btw - having lots of fun shooting our vid for 'Models' this week!

The Fanatics : 21 November 2004 - 3:37pm

The Fanatics EP out today!

We are proud to announce the release of our first self-titled EP on Monday, November 22 through Capitalrecordings.

Tracklisting:
TV (3:22)
Dead (2:59)
Models (3:42)
Calling (4:05)
Buddy (2:52)
Girl (4:50)
Signal (1:56)

Sound recording and mixing for the EP by our good friend Dale Cotton at audioworkshop and Platform Studios between September 2003 and September 2004.

All songs written by T. Clark and D. Green, except the classic Snapper song, Buddy, written by Peter Gutteridge. You can find the original version on their self-titled 1988 release through Flying Nun (FN110). We thoroughly recommend this record!

The singles Girl, Models and Dead have been long standing favourites on the b-Net stations and between them have achieved eleven number ones on 95bFM in Auckland, Radio Active in Wellington, Radio One in Dunedin and Radio Control in Palmerston North.
- Models reached number 1 on the Radioscope Alternative charts and was in the top 10 for 8 weeks.
- Dead reached number 1 on the Alt charts and was in the top 10 for 8 weeks.
- Girl reached number 14 on the Alt Charts and was in the top 30 for 5 weeks.

Buddy has recently been released to radio and should be heard on the b-Net stations and Channel Z over the coming weeks.

The video for Signal (available for download on www.thefanatics.co.nz), was created by mad genius Simon Ward for the grand total of $40 and has had airplay on C4. Thanks to some financial help from NZ on Air, we are now in pre-production for the videos for Models and TV, which will be directed by Sticky Pictures' Mark Albiston.

The Fanatics EP is available at all good record stores from November 22, or you can click on the link below and purchase it online now!
