In 5th form my friend and I got a couple of losers to take us as dates to the St Kents ball so we could rock out to Garageland. At the last minute the band pulled out due to some mystery illness/family accident/”the rich kids weren’t paying enough money” reason. Which was a bummer really. However as soon as the “top 40” part of the evening was over a band came onstage. They were actually quite good and the evening got a bit loose at this point. My friend suggested we jump on stage so we did. We danced among the Dead Flowers avoiding guitar leads and scissor kicks in our ball frocks. Probably one of the few occasions that you could get away with it.

Years later I started managing a band that at that stage only had one real good review and it just happened to be from Brian Bell of Dead Flowers fame. Coincidence? Through that band I joined NZM and some crazy guy called Danthetto told me to bring the boys down to meet them before a gig they were having in Wellington. We went along to trekkers hotel and met the Voom guys and some other SJF rockers. They suggested we come up to Auckland and do a gig there. So I arranged a last minute gig in Auckland at some converted funeral parlour in Mt Eden which carries the name the Odeon Lounge. It hadn’t really taken off as a venue yet so we were expecting a few friends to turn up. Low and behold it was packed out with quite a few musical faces in the audience. Which brings me back to why I started this story. Jeremy Eade was one of them.

So moral of the story is that NZ really is a small place, and NZ music is rather large. One of the few places where you don’t have to suck c*ck to meet your favourite musicians (although some people still do).

Ive only heard the one song kindly remastered on a C90 by Dr O himself (for reference: Dr O's hits of today, tomorrow and the next day). It got me singing. However has anyone seen the video? Rather low budget creepy with Loretta eyeing Jack up as he sings on stage at a desolate pub. They kiss even! I have to love her good time dress complete with frills and puffed sleeves. Just a little bit country.

saw it last night. wow. I have so many different thoughts running through my head. I feel sad and happy, hopeful and depressed all at the same time.

L* : 15 June 2004 - 1:33am

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
happy birthday dear AKA,
Happy Birthday to you......

L* : 31 May 2004 - 8:22pm

Yes Im all for keeping the creativity and drama practice. I used to borrow my older friends birth certificate and community services card as two forms of ID and go to pubs and clubs. Not that I ever drank in them anyone cos at 16 I couldnt really afford it.

L* : 31 May 2004 - 8:06pm

Someone special told me that they would like to send me a present and I could choose what that was. I asked for 3 things. One of them I get today and the other two I hope to get soonish.
Maybe you should pick who you send things to Joanna.

L* : 31 May 2004 - 7:55pm

//God, I'm notorious for losing cellphones and wallets. People are finding my stuff before I even notice it missing.

I am definately getting you a man-bag for your birthday! but I wont send it until I get my chocolate!

L* : 31 May 2004 - 7:36pm

//when in fact they just didn't look properly

Its called having a "man look"

L* : 31 May 2004 - 7:25pm

Wishful thinking I guess. Your Iraqi friends gave me the idea :)

I thought chocolate was your natural colour?

L* : 31 May 2004 - 7:10pm

Actually I learnt all about how cellphones can ignite fires on my fav program CSI.

But back to main trend - in defense of myself and probably a lot of other females out there I do believe that its a certain type of girl limegreen who loses their handbag. For a starter it will usually be someone with an impractical handbag that you cant actually keep attached to you but fashion trends are more important, the person will usually be drunk, and the person will be in the back of a taxi texting some guy she met 5 mins ago at some dingy club. Is it any wonder that she loses her bag?

L* : 31 May 2004 - 5:17pm

the other annoying thing is that guys always lose things especially their cellphones. you dont hear of girls losing their cellphones do you? I thoroughly endorse "man-bags".

L* : 30 May 2004 - 8:12pm

Well you made up for it by "scabbing" (your words not mine) someone elses phone and texting me. which is better than not contacting at all.
Your a guy - its expected.
Oh and that present you reckon your sending me - I got some ideas on what I want now.

L* : 27 May 2004 - 6:29pm

If it helps you can delete the emails I sent you about tonight cos Jeremy was supposed to spam it too and I imagine your on both our lists. So make that 498. :)

Speaking from the perspective of someone learning who has the same size hands as an 8yo child yes it hurts to begin with. and you learn to stop expecting sympathy from your guitar tutor who will just reply "well done on those callouses! they are something to be proud of" ay Foetusboy!
my only suggestion is to make sure you have warm hands before you start. the colder your hands the more it hurts.

L* : 6 May 2004 - 6:56pm

Said in Jest:
I follow you round the boards sometimes - does that count??

I also know your age, height, location, schooling history, high school nickname, ethinicity, real name, email addy, who your first kiss was with and a whole lot of other stuff and Ive never met you. I can ham it up a bit if you like so you feel like you are being stalked...........I could arrange to peer in your window this weekend when Im in auckland? Let me know.

L* : 6 May 2004 - 1:39am

Woah. That hit the spot.

L* : 5 May 2004 - 6:11pm

Stickys "lease" spots off the council. I guess in free for all areas its exactly that - free for all. Its the same when people poster over stickys postering.
However I dont agree that big marketing campaigns like nz music month should have a right over local gig posters in free for all spots. They have, remember, payed for prime marketing locations. And obviously if it was a prime marketing position it would be owned or leased by the postering company already.
Sticky Fingers is a good postering company who takes the effort to support smaller clients like local bands and offer them discounts. I have found them most pleasant to deal with.
Phantom Billstickers was also very helpful for getting postering done in chch, dunedin, hamilton and auckland and even sent me photos of where the posters had been placed so that I was happy with the campaign.

L* : 4 May 2004 - 6:41pm

You got in the final for your "air guitar" performance. It would be great if you could like you know sing along with that. Or at least do over dubs or lip synching (just like on UK TOTP)

L* : 4 May 2004 - 6:35pm

It wasnt a musical. It just had one of those intense girl on girl bedroom scenes you know - waltzing round the room in a see through nightie with another girl. Getting caught up in the "moment".
I have to say its a very well scripted play and I think it was around before the film.

L* : 4 May 2004 - 6:16pm

I had to sing and dance to that song in the stage production of Heavenly Creatures (Daughters of Heaven). Go Mario Lanza!

L* : 29 April 2004 - 7:28pm

I couldnt relate to any of them either. They symbolised the person that i dont wish to become.
I also dont believe that generation next is extremely "camera savvy" either, the social groups at this bar were all out for attention. If a camera turned up in a bar I was dancing at I would probably leave.

L* : 27 April 2004 - 9:13pm

As someone that lived there for 20years of my life opposed to someone that moved there I can see why the newbies like auckland. If you move into town then you dont discover the suburbs and you find your own little wellington in the inner city. My friend was so alarmed 2 weeks ago when he ended up in Mangere Bridge. He didnt think any existed past newmarket.
I on the other hand dispise auckland because visiting it is a chore for me. People i know live all over the place and its such a mission to catch up with them. the traffic is terrible, the waterfront area is a cock up and there is no free parking. Its got its good points but Ive moved on. Wellington has what I need right now.
