Oh, and I just rememebered one of the first times I saw them at Bodega, and Kirsten was telling everyone to move closer to the stage and go mental. I took lots of photos that night too and they didn't mind, especially when I gave them copies of the prints.
So I don't know what's happened, but they're not so friendly anymore it seems.
Sorry dude, just thought it was somewhat lacking, compared to the first album that is. But there is definately a change in Goldenhorse, or at least in Kirsten, and it's not for the better.
I have to concur that something odd is happening with Goldenhorse lately. I used to catch them everytime they came to Wellington, just before 'Riverhead' went platnum or whatever, and always found their shows to be full of energy and they came across as genuinely nice people. When I got to meet them backstage after one particular show this feeling was confirmed. Although I have to admit it was more the guys I talked to, but Kirsten seemed just as approachable.
However, I hadn't seen them for over a year when I saw them with NZSO at the Michael Fowler Centre. And I couldn't help but feel something had changed. It felt like a "ooo, look at us, we're Goldenhorse, aren't we fabulous?" sort of vibe was coming off Kirsten.
This feeling is compounded by the way she treated members of the band that opened for them at the gig Ollie is talking about. There are certain things that fall into the realms of professionalism and basic courtesy that Kirsten seems to forsaking, and that's not cool.
I dunno, maybe it's something to do with the fact that their new album is crap?
Just a follow up to let you know we went to DNA last night and it was fucking awesome! Once we worked out how to actually get in we had a rip roaring 3 hour practice, so good! The guys there are really cool, we'll definately be going back!
Thanks heaps for the hook up!
Hey awesome! Thanks heaps for that, I'll follow those up.
You rock!!!
I know people are always on the lookout for these, but I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere for bands to play loud like? We'd be looking at a couple of times a month, 2-3 hours, pretty much willing to use anywhere that's available.
Any clues would be choice!
Just have to say Rope that your explaination of your lyric writing method is fantastic! This is the way I often write lyrics when I'm having trouble, it's nice to see it laid out in an understandable way. Well done!
This has probably been brought up in the past, but I think it curious to note that 4 of the 9 finalists in this years' Battle of the Bands are from Auckland, and that only 2 of those 9 are from the South Island. I don't remember how the regions were split up this year, but surely it seems a little strange to have 4 divisions making up the Auckland zone. I know it's a big area but come on!
Just interested to know if anyone has any inside scoop on this one...
If they can play/sing/perform, then cool. That's all anyone can ask of any band.
Man, has anyone else seen the page on the Canadian Music Week site?
(http://www.cmw.net/bands.htm, look under 'G'). Please someone tell me I read this wrong: Golden Horse (Melbourne, Australia). What the hell?!?!?!?!?!
Rocking gig at the Cuba Carnival though! And yay for the album going gold!
I wanted to see photos of him deckin the dude! Come on, where's the getting-in-harms-way photography???
The Elvis guy was funny, and it rules that Luke Whanga (sorry if if I spelt it wrong dude!) got through, but the dissed Terry too much, the only judge with any cred is Frankie. The Song A&R guy couldn't get up there and Fiona hasn't done anything of note for the last decade.
But hey, it's got us all talking. Man, we're so gulible!
-Wellington's OdESSA and STYLUS77 will make waves all over the country.
-OdESSA and Idle Faction will finally release albums.
-I will find the right combination of people and get an original band together that lasts more than 6-months-to-a-year.
-Finger Eleven will support Evanescence in Auckland.
-David Bowie will play the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, starting a coup for Wellington of stealing all the shows Auckland would normally host.
-New Zealanders will continue to support New Zealand music, it will grow, and soon enough overseas acts oon the radio wil be the rarity.
You know that Metallica thing about them suing another band for using a 'trademarked' chord progression was a complete falacy, right? It was actually instigated by a member of the band who was supposed to be getting sued! Classic!!!
I don't care if it is seated for Bowie, I'm folding that sucka chair up and standing in spite of it!!!
You can go to BDO next year though, you'll probably never have a chance to see Bowie again.
It's about time that Wellington gets to use the stadium for a concert again. It's gonna rule the world!!! Hopefully a sign of things to come....
Bought their LP (EP, whichever) last week, fucking rocking!!! Can't wait to hear more from these guys.
GO THE NEW ALBUM!!! IT ROCKS THE WORLD!!! Hanging out now for the Collider Tour!
Reset Speed = 2 thumbs up (three if I had them, but I'm not a mutant this week). And that's Mystik, with a 'K', by the way.
Nope, no selling CDs at inflated rates, just wanting to spread the sounds around, like to friends in Dunedin who might be missing Wellington music a little.
Roll on Friday's gig!!!
Yes, but the drummer is the best.
He's my favourite.
