Hi, we are currently looking for a guitarist and drummer to complete our band lineup (currently have vocalist, keyboards / BV's, and bassist).
More info etc at our website www.naquadah.co.nz
If interested email me at: jamie@naquadah.co.nz
If it was a female vocal pop thing it might have been Deep Obsession (I think their album was called Infinity)
I remember some all ages shows happening above Stages on K Road. Not sure if this is still a possible venue though, and you would have to take your own PA etc.
And I remember a few years ago some punk bands (maybe Sommerset?) played at the hall above D72 near High Street. Again own PA would be needed and not sure if they still allow this.
We are playing a show on Friday night down at the Masonic. It's a big night planned for one of the guitarists from The Sushi who is leaving the band to go back to Japan the next day.
We are playing about 8:00 or so followed by Mozelee and then The Sushi will play a long set at the end of the night to farewell Takuya.
How's everything going for The WBC? I HAVE to catch you guys again sometime real soon!
Just thinking about it now you might be able to do that if you have the tuner differently positioned in your setup than I do.
I have it immediately before the head (signal comes from wireless, through tuner, into head unit) but if you set it so that the tuner was in a line out or similar you would be able to switch between instruments without cutting out your guitar signal.
That would mean that you wouldn't be able to mute your guitar to noiselessly tune (which I do a lot) though.
So I reckon you might be able to if you set it all up right and maybe used a Line Selector or similar pedal as well (if noiseless tuning is of concern to you).
I just gave it a quick try now and I could only get the tuner to pick up my acoustic guitar when I had switched the to the empty input jack AND hit the mute switch
Changing the input jack removed the bass signal to the amp :( and mute additionally drops all signals.
Maybe there is a way but I couldn't find it during that quick play :(
Well i got a bit of a deal but I think standard retail on that unit was about $600 or $650.
Haven't even had a chance to play with it yet but will be breaking it in at practice tonight.
I was definately impressed with some of the features on the DTR-2000, it appears to tune pretty precisely and has a nice bottom-mounted light so that will make it easier (hopefully) to read the dials on my head unit in the dark :)
I just picked up a Korg DTR-2000 from Mark at Mainline Musicworks Takapuna. He had no problem sourcing it for me at all.
I'd say try one of the Musicworks shops, if you are still looking Stu.
Yeah that's good advice Disasteradio...
It's like when you can't sleep so you stress that you can't sleep. The stress will mean that you will not be able to sleep and so you get a horrible endless circle.
That's exactly what's going on here. Just relax out a bit and it'll work itself out :)
Are you sure that $5 includes door fee? Coz normally the tickets are $20 +booking fee. I would have thought $25 would have been the cost.
The first gig I ever went to was when Nothing At All and This Is Not A Miracle played in a hall in Glenfield. There was another band but I can't remember who they were :( This would have been probably about 92 or 93? If anyone knows please let me know coz now it's bugging me. The gig was at the hall on Hall Road in Glenfield. I think I went along with my friend John and Jay from Sommerset.
Then the first international act I went to was Pennywise in 1996, we had to travel to Tauranga for the night but that just added to the fun of the night.
Yeah I had a punk upbringing :)
Hey Grimmy,
He is definately an excellent drummer and I am sure he is able to continue with both bands without it becoming an issue for either band. All of Naquadah are very supportive of band members having other musical projects, it's just most of us have been too lazy to get other bands up and running.
When you hook up a gig please let me know as I am always keen to meet up with other musicians in the area and to hear new bands. My email is jamie@naquadah.co.nz, or scott has my contact phone number.
The search for a new drummer is over....
We would like to welcome Scott Cortese into Naquadah.
Scott has been in a number of successful Auckland based bands over the years, and we are really looking forward to working with him. The practices so far have been amazing.
We will be playing our first show with Scott at the Golden Cross in Waihi on Friday 29th August for the Waihi regional finals of the Battle of the Bands.
Photos and bio etc should be up soon on www.naquadah.co.nz
In regards to the "start time" thing, it has come to the point where the audience doesn't even expect the band to start until after they say they will and as a band that does stick to our start times we have had a number of gigs where people have turned up 1 hour after our set and asked "so when are you guys on?" It's damn frustrating.
So yeah, it's now at the point where many bands stall simply because they are waiting for their audience to arrive because the audience has not believed the band's claims that the show will start at x time.
I guess bands, like us, that start on time just have to advertise and make sure people know that the show REALLY starts at the time on the ad.
Sounds pretty cool. But can you please tell me is submission a live music venue?
I also can understand why they rerelease (from an economical point of view) but as someone who buys albums as they are released (and not for the bragging rights of heard them first but rather because I just love to hear new music) why do they not do the rereleases with the bonus stuff but also make the bonus material (DVD / audio tracks) available in like an EP (or DVD single) format so that the people that have bought the album originally can get hold of the new tracks without having to spend another $30.
The additional production costs for the record company would be a cd case and a slip of packaging.
I am glad someone else feels like this. It always annoys me that I usually buy a CD pretty soon after it's released and then they re-release it with some cool extra shit but they can get stuffed if they think i am rebuying a cd i already own.
GRRRR... give the cool bonus shit to the people that actually make a CD a success in the first place. Make the limited edition stuff the first pressing.
we are currently looking for a new drummer, anyone wanting to audition please contact naquadah@naquadah.co.nz
Sound bites are available on the website also.
all gigs are still on while we are looking though thanks to our mate Gav who is sitting in on the drums for us.
I have sent 2 or 3 emails to artists@nzmusic.com but still can not log in to the Naquadah artist section.
The page just flashes and nothing happens. Also no one has replied to my emails at all.
Can someone please make it work?
(Sorry if this sounds nasty but it has been about 2 months since we joined up and haven't even been able to upload a bio yet, and I am sick of sending emails trying to find out how to fix it and not even getting a reply)

Unfortunately, Dean has left the band due to personal reasons and we are now looking for a new drummer. If you are interested in auditioning for Naquadah, email us naquadah@naquadah.co.nz
The band is aged between 25 and 28, however age is not a problem if you have the right attitude and playing style.
Recording and gigging experience preferred but not essential.
Oh own transport is a must!!!!
yeah sorry i meant people that were not physically located in New Zealand
no offense meant to anyone. I am just interested in why "NZ music" and not Australian, or British, or Irish or any other country. And I am always interested to find out how far reaching NZ music really is and whether people in other countries (and have not lived in, or visited, New Zealand) have actually heard of our top bands.
Hi just a question that I have been wondering about for the non-New Zealanders on this board.
Why did you come to this board and site to find out more about New Zealand music?
and by this I mean was it because you found out that a band you liked was from NZ? or was it because NZ music in general has become more popular overseas? or just a general curiousity about this country?
Hi Pantsdown,
We are based in West Auckland (practice in New Lynn) and are a dark but energetic pop/rock band. There are some soundbytes of some of our old demo's on the website. Unfortunately we haven't got the clip of our new single up yet but should be soon.
