No fuck!!! K'lee's name is actually Kaleena McNabb!!! I never would've guessed!!! She looks a bit older now!!!

As for Nicolette - Im fucked if I know what happened there, but Deep Obsession - Zara must have fallen off the face of the earth, but Vanessa - 4-5 years after DO were at the top, she was a cinema attendant in Movie Max 5 - IN TIMARU!!! A couple of mates were eyeing her up, oblivious to her previous occupation!!! Apparantly Vanessa's now gone into Jazz, and is recording an album (Jazz standards) in Pommyland...

Ahh... None of them have had a hit in over 20 years and Joe public thinks of all as HASBEENS - WTFuck, they'll be interesting to watch - Tom Sharplin's Russell Crowe's best mate - and I've read about them in Stranded in Paradise (thinks there could be a riot of 50 somethings trying to relive their youth)...

Pauly was a good singer - its a shame he was one of the many that got sucked into the record company vortex, hyped up spectacularly - and spat out the other end... - the record industry USED him...

Actually speaking of Channel Z - Where is a station now in NZ that plays the variety Channel Z used to? The Edge & ZM for starters doesnt cut it... Im surprised that there was not enough room for the 'Z' and KIWIFM...

The fucking problem with Kiwi is that it is way too repetitive - and unable to be heard outside Aucks, Welly and Chch... If there was a stream to the provences (not SKY - free radio I'm talking about here!), maybe it would be listened to by more people - especially if a lot of different material was added.

Another thing too - it is weird listening to one hellbent drum&bass track on Kiwi, only for the station to switch abruptly to something like Max Merritt's 'Slipping Away'... What Kiwi needs is more flow - different genres at different times of day - And being NZ MUSIC, it would be good if they had some good largely UNHEARD (from a good unsigned act perhaps) playing at different times on Kiwi.

Isn't the purpose of C4 supposed to be a 'surrogate' MTV... With the REAL MTV hitting NZ (for the second time!), maybe C4 could be too much of a competitor

joh : 7 June 2006 - 2:55am

Astounding as a vocalist - first I heard of her would be 2004's Strawpeople track 'Wire', which undoubtedly was the best track off "Count Backwards from Ten". Other good collaborations with her would include Breaks Coop's "Transister" and Baitercell & Schumachers (shame they're not in partnership anymore!) "Leap of Faith"

MySpace is a damn good idea for bands - I've noticed in general many NZ bands have information with MySpace far more up-to-date than their own sites! Probably the best thing I reckon is the Mp3 download option for songs (big ups especially to Deja Voodoo, Duchess and Jordan Reyne on this!!!), which interestingly is not utilized by the NZ bands that have the major local recording contracts.....

Gramski duetted with Anika Moa .... Anika Moa duetted with DIMMER! (Thats two degrees I suppose)...

Oh yeah Herbie Fuckface (the drum machine) was 1st degrees with Shane back in early 80s Dunedin...

One thing strangely few ppl realize about Telecom is that you can keep the same number when upgrading phones - I'm amazed how many ppl fuckin change their number when changing fones...

joh : 28 August 2005 - 4:11am

No, I never got to see this mag...

joh : 28 March 2005 - 3:35am

A fine chap... It was he that put the zest back into the Enz when they were stagnating back late 83, and in general, he was a laugh and a half... (ever see him playing the fool in the later Split Enz videos and the Crowded house ones) ...a real showman...

joh : 18 February 2005 - 4:22am

Needs to promote (as said many times before) more unheard music - that you don't hear on ZM or Edge!!!...

joh : 18 February 2005 - 4:20am

Fuck man this is the cell version of Holden (I'm a fan) vs Ford (yet I own a Ford)... Its only ever going to be those two companies, I can't imagine with 4 million people another company trying to muscle in...

joh : 18 February 2005 - 4:10am

For fucks sake... John Farnham and the Finns are icons to their respective countries. Shit Helen must have been under a rock not to have heard of John Farnham!!! Fuck, and this is the same woman who helped open KiwiFM - Talk about double standards!!! Let them play!!!

joh : 18 February 2005 - 4:01am

Its good to see them back - but without Brough??? He and Carter did a good job constrasting their vocals (Bad note for a heart)...

joh : 18 February 2005 - 4:00am

No, The Loaded Hog (long lament the hog) and it was often wall to wall with 400-500 people! I don't know, but a crowded pub gives a more personal touch than a sparse theatre...

joh : 10 February 2005 - 5:29pm

Brooke would be a nice chick and all, but I feel shes fast becoming a product.... Radio is thrashing her to death, and the concert tour that she did the tickets were fucking extortionate (try $47 bucks!!!!)... Even Shihad (Pacifer then) with GRINSPOON were much cheaper ($30)... People were happy to pay that, Timarus theatre royal was packed, not but me, who had just seen Deja Voodoo, Bleeders and The Have for $10 bucks (Good old Steriogram and Pluto did gigs with free entry in Timmers!)
As for the concert itself, it was ho-hum OK I guess, but there was just too much plugging of Organisations etc... Was there something a bit corporate about it all!!!
Not only that, it was discovered that she also does not make public appearances after the shows, yet there were enough people wanting to see her.... I have met a lot of musicians that way (Jordan Luck, D4, Tadpole,Chills, Elemeno P amongst examples)... Is it just me or is she of a 'higher species' than everyone else???

joh : 10 February 2005 - 5:15pm

I is about fucking time a station played a VARIETY of all Kiwi music - Its about time there was a station that does not play American sludge!.... I was in Christchurch yesterday and yep the standard 'Subaru tape player taking up 2 drivebays' was tuned almost completely on it... I felt it put the formulaic other radio stations (ZM, Edge) out there to shame!
One thing though - Is it going to eventually go out to the provences as well???

joh : 10 November 2003 - 4:42am

Go overseas, make it big somehow there but at the same time stay true to their roots, continually evolve and change direction for their own sake, as opposed to any heavies - and come back to NZ once a year for gigs!

joh : 10 November 2003 - 4:36am

A mate once told me that men should watch their drinks too... He said it wouldn't be a good idea to wake up the next morning in a strange location with a sore arse!

joh : 10 November 2003 - 4:34am

His music certainly ain't... British solo 'garage' pop manufacturing...

joh : 10 November 2003 - 4:09am

Tadpole are actually still together???? Whos doing the bass & guitar parts????

joh : 10 November 2003 - 4:07am

I've plenty of time for this band... Met them in Timaru and spent over an hour talking to them. Martin's an exceptionally friendly guy and the other three, Todd, James and Rodney are very dynamic... From what I saw with them live, and the audience demographic (mostly 18-30) they seem to be having a good fresh start...
