Have none of you heard 'MacArthur Park'?
"Someone left the CAKE out in the RAIN . . .
And I don't think I can TAKE IT
'cos it took so long to BAKE IT
and I'll never have that recipe aGAIN,
OOH NOOOOO . . . . . "
Quiet you. Or I'll scan and post that pic I've got of you playing drums (well, pots and pans with chopsticks), age 3.
They will rust if you don't dry them properly afterwards - so lie them on some towels, go at them with a hair dryer, spray them with some CRC or WD40 and wipe them down.
Adding some vinegar to the water when you boil them helps lift the oils from the winding grooves too.
With Brits like Neil Gaiman (Sandman) and Dave McKean (cover art for Sandman and numerous CDs including Fear Factory) behind the helm instead of some money-grabbing American, there are two things we can at least expect from this film:
1. It will be very beautiful - albeit in a strange and dark way
2. Disney/the USA won't ruin it like they ruin almost everything
The only unfortunate things about it are that Jim Henson is dead and Brian Froud doesn't seem to be actively involved. Brian was the designer for Labyrinth and Dark Crystal. We met him at a signing in London on Halloween - he was there with his wife and son. Toby's all grown up now, and must simply hate it when people say to him "you remind me of the babe . . . "
Oh, and neither David Bowie nor his tights will be seen.
Tittycakes?
Fair enough.
(Kids these days, with their wacky slang, I don't know, when I was a lad etc.)
See you on the 4th.
Making VCDs with Nero is pretty easy, and most DVD players support that format. You'll be hard pressed to find a player that plays DivX though.
Open up Nero wizard, select "compile a new CD", select "other CD formats" and then "Video CD". After that you just drag and drop your avi or mpeg files. A CDR can hold just over an hour of VCD video.
And check the link for any other questions.
Indigo: I think Shakhan start around 10pm, but don't quote me on that. I seem to recall seeing "9:30pm" on the posters.
Not all the gigs are up yet.
If you're NOT one of the lucky Aucklanders fortunate enough to have been invited to Greenie's little black-tie soiree, you can still see us play in Auckland that night . . . somewhere . . . more information will be posted soon. For everyone else there's still the Hamilton gig, and Wellington of course . . .
I had a look at a schematic of Dave Gilmour's rig once - he runs multiple signal chains into many various effect units and pedals, switching from chain to chain, and one of them was simply a Rat pedal and an EQ next to it to tweak the tone. Which meant that from time to time he was by-passing several hundred kilos of pre-amps and effects units to get a simple little stomp-box sound.
Re. the DD6 - you can't plug an external switch into it, that's the DD5. Bloody handy, that. What the DD6 does have is a built-in "tap tempo" system . . . Now, I know that some of their products in the past have tried this built-in thing, particularly the PH3 phaser and the RC20 Loop station, and they were diabolical to use. What I don't know is whether any improvements have been made.
The DD6 does look quite nice from a stereo-effects perspective but unless the tap tempo delivers, I'd advise the DD5 instead - and it'll still cost you about $100 less.
Just a word of unsolicited advice on delay pedals - if you can find one, get the Boss DD5, not the DD3 or the DD6. The DD3 is just the DD2 with an updated pricetag and the tap tempo functions on the DD6 are unusable live unless you're sitting down.
Go to a chemist, get some "vocalzone" tablets.
Though this reply is probably too late to be of any use. I'm surprised nobody else is recommending the stuff.
"Cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances"
Buggrit. I suppose I could go and see Aguilera but it's not the same - surprisingly similar in some respects, but not the same.
That Flamingo is a nice looking bass.
I had the fortune to play on this beast today - it took the luthier 2 years to make, one of a limited edition of 10. The bridge has piezo and lightwave (optical) pickups to complement the Bartolini. The fingerboard has blue LEDs down the edge. List price £3500.

I haven't seen the ESP 8-string . . . but I imagine it would look and sound perfect for a metal outfit. I've just seen the Dean Rhapsody 8- and 12-string basses, and I'd recommend the 12 - I think it goes for around $2,500.
I'm in Switzerland,
Sitting in Harkonnen chairs
Designed by Giger.
So I missed this thread;
Discovered it far too late.
But all is not lost:
I can still join in,
Brag about my travels here
And return enriched.
Which has been already rebutted by Dave Barry - "true, but it's a really dumb metaphor".
