My story will have to be about Shihad, Kora, Cog and Die Die Die, Dunedin, July 05
Before the gig, I had organised with Tom Larkin to have some fans come along to soundcheck. We rocked on up, and were greeted by the best bunch of blokes I've ever met. They were only too happy to stand around and chat, and do photos. To top it off, Tom had a Euro tour Killjoy t-shirt there waiting for me. Cheers!
Dust was spotted behind a camera, as Jon introduced most of the group on tape.
To top it off, that night was the best Shihad gig I have ever attended. The place absolutely went off! The next night in Christchurch was very similar, except for an incident with Peter Campbell (tour manager - got pulled off the stage, injured his back). Jon was in sensational form, running around with his guitar, playing "The General Electric" from the raised seating at the back of the venue, leaving Tom to finish off the singing.
Ahhhh, such fantastic memories.
You can now. Its all up and going again (well, the forums are).
Congrats to Runny and the crew for getting 'er going again.
*hands Runny a virtual beer*
I agree with Lucifer_Sam - for me its Nats or Act.
Rodney Hide is a cuz, got to vote along family lines :Þ
Finally BzP join up here.
Hopefully, I will be in Invers a lot more soon, so I might be able to come along and see you guys somewhere soon.
//dude, I would have told you, but I thought you would have already known.
Yeah, well, I did guess it was them anyway, just didn't actually go up and say hi.
I was watching it too. That was wicked. I have said it a thousand times already, but Tom gave me a Killjoy tshirt. The lads were really great hosts.
After what happened in Chch, I hope Peter (the tour manager) is ok after his fall.
Tama only just told me that it was Dust and Teina doing the filming at Dunedin and Chch.
Due to the amount of work the southern 'had squad did with flyers etc. I asked Tom before the tour if the squad could come into soundcheck, and he was happy for it to go ahead. Tom gave me a euro tour killjoy t-shirt, for which I am eternally grateful. Dust was filming like mad, and filmed the had squad as well (except me, I think).
The gig was fantastic. Kora kick some serious ass, as do Cog. Didn't really like Die die die, but they were ok. Shihad were fantastic as always. If anyone has seen the video for Run, you'll know how everyone falls over - that was recreated, with most of the moshers falling over during Run - I loved it!
Chch was grand too, but it was a more mature crowd. Die Die Die didn't look like they wanted to be there though.
Anyway, Shihad - Christchurch - New Years eve - be there.
Sorry Tama - doesn't look like it. I emaied Tom a week or so ago, and although they still had one venue to work out, Dunedin seemed to be the closest.
//Alive's verse riff is the best thing on it, let down entirely by the lamest chorus known to mankind. Sounds like they're out of ideas.
Thats the whole idea of that song. They wrote it that way. The juxtaposition of the heavy riff-filled verses, against the beautifully flowing chorus' is supposed to make people stand back and ask themselves "what the fcuk just happened there?"
I don't totally know what you will think of the next single then. Its going to be either Dark Times, or Shot In The Head. I think it will be Dark Times, since we have had two heavier singles so far.
Album = fantastic!
Ditto - its a damn shame. I see they have cancelled their aussie gigs for a few dates, but are still doing the Aotea Square gig on Sunday - all class.
//they are trying to incorperate the layering of Churn, the power and rythym of Killjoy and pop friendly choruses of the fish album, with whatever they are listening to know.
From what I have heard of the other songs on the album, this sums it up perfectly. Songs like Dark Times are pop-friendly, with beautiful melodies, but songs like Big Future get their power from Killjoy, with a rythim from TGE.
On Shihad.com, you can download the video for it as well. There is also a new album sampler there, and I have to say, its all sounding fcuking fantastic!
Since I do not see it posted here anywhere, the new Shihad album, 'Love Is The New Hate', hits the record stores May 2, as does the new single, 'All The Young Fascists' (its already hit the airwaves).
I got home from Stewart Island today. A lovely trip paid for by work. It was very good and educational too. The boat over yesterday was fun, 2.5 - 4m swells!
Arg, that reminds me, I have assignments to tackle tomorrow.
Database ahoy!
Just remember what pulling power Shihad had - I came up from Southland for the gig, Chris flew in from Auckland, and a friend of mine Zareth flew in from Paihia.
Hehehe, at a party I was at last night, a guy came in - he had just been at a level train crossing. The lights were all flashing, so he pulled up, looked both ways, and saw no train, so he floored it across the crossing... just as the barrier arm came down. He snapped it clean off of the upright.
Worst of all? A policeman was right there, and saw the whole thing.
I have to say, All The Young Fascists is already one of my favourite Shihad tunes, and sa you said Damien, the studio version is not even out yet!.
I wonder, when Jon sings "last chance for a dance", if he is making fun of the Aussies and their accents :P
I think its simply a case of no one knowing the gig is on - as far as I know, it was only announced about a week ago (well, thats when I first heard about it). I've heard that The Rock were supposedly doing some advertising, but haven't heard anything about that either.
I doubt there will be any new songs though - in Christchurch at New Years, Jon was saying they've jammed and recorded some stuff, and he's put vocals over top, but they haven't got back together to play around with it.
