I suspect that the $50 fee is to encourage the bands who have booked to acctually turn up.

I suspect that the rate of bands that turn up would decline if there was no fee.

I would suggest creating an entry bond that the band gets back after they have performed.

What do you think?

I suspect it will allow the album to chart for longer. Maybe they are going for a NZ record for chart life of something. Possibly something you can show off to int labels.

Drums - Rocket Man - Elton John (couldn't really keep time @ 10yrs)
Guitar - Born to be Wild (Who did that? Wasn't the Animals was it?)

This scheme is only available to bands in New Zealand.

Basically I've personally set up a scheme which starts off a band in an Entry Level Sponsorship Deal. This is with a Professional Sound and Lighting company. All shipping is free too.
For a start off a band receives a flat 20% discount from full retail.
(special conditions apply)

Once a band joins up I'll take them through the ins and outs of working for and working with sponsors.

Sponsorship paid off brilliantly for my band Fourth Member. We received a good supply of free product.

The important thing is what you do with the free product. check out www.fourthmember.com and enter the Coke Fridge competition. It's a classic example of how to build your fan base and market your sponsor and try to gather additional sponsorship.

I've also got a background in direct marketing training so there's lot's to learn and I'm willing to take any band through the process which joins up for the scheme.

please continue our conversation via email @ john@fourthmember.com

Thanks.

Sorry, they have never played at the beach in Napier. I'd like to though. I hear it's pretty cool there.

Can you list names of good live music venues please?

Thanks.

Here is a little suggestion for you.

As horrid as it sounds, look for sponsorship. See if there are any brandings that will back you in a small way for starters, just to see if you will pick things up a bit.

Each time we have a concert I keep reporting back to our rep in report form on how many people turned up, how many people I signed up to our email list etc.

The good thing about building an email list is that it gives your sponsor a measurable consumer base to market to. I'd never hand your email list to them but invite them to let you know when they are running specials etc. Try to include this in a related way to what you are talking about in your regular mail outs(you do have an email list right?). Always report back to the sponsor and pat your own back about the great work you are doing for them. This keeps the relationship alive and gives them numbers and justification to why they should be giving you things.

Now trying to go back to the subject... um...... As far as I'm concerned the KA has the best PA and soundie I have ever played through. We entered a battle of the bands comp, even though we didn't really want to, just to play through the rig.

One thing to keep in mind, and it's totally up to you. If you are going to sue venue owners for breech of contract etc. Won't that action follow the name of your band? Wouldn't a venue think twice about using your band because of this?

Just a thought.

The Inertia Tour with Mozelee, Fourth Member and Epitome is done like a dinner.

Thanks goes out to all who came and saw some tasty kiwi rock.

Like all tours it had it's high's and lows. The high being hearing Mozelee play their new single "Something real". The low point being the Wanganui concert getting dumped due to the venue owner cancelling three days out.

I reckon the most interesting thing that happened is John from Fourth Member going ape during the last song of their set. He ended up smacking his own face with his bass and fell over. Toby, Mozelee's quick thinking guitarist sprinted up to the side of stage and put the smoke machine on full blast. It was by chance pointing directly at John's face.
Once the smoke cleared and John pulled his sweaty body from the stage floor; blood was making it's way merrily from his nose.
(The Boiler Room Gig)

Thanks also goes out to Inertia Sound and Light who gave the tour amazing support.

Hey guys, we have big big big news coming up. Hold your breath, it's coming up soon.

helmut : 15 February 2004 - 1:20pm

Well due to the above event, it just got worse.

Wanganui is a hive of talent. We know of heaps of cats that have come from there and springboarded into Jazz school etc. The only thing is the bands seem to break up alot.

Bummer!

Hey bro. They can and I guess they do. The funny thing is that they had 3 months to cancell. They waited 3 days out.

We are going to bill them for lost earnings.

helmut : 4 February 2004 - 5:21pm

Due to the venue owner pulling the plug on the concert at the last minute; The Inertia Tour concert @ City Collage Hall Feb 7th has been cancelled.

Mozelee, Fourth Member and Epitome were obviously dissapointed after all the hard work gone in to promote and prepare.

Thanks to all who have been helping, I guess we can't have it our way all the time.

Wicked.

Hi there. I'm John from Fourth Member.
We have had to move out of our band room. I have a van load of thick foam squabs that I can deliver to you if you are not too far from me.
They have been given to us from a furniture factory so they are brand new.
Call me on 09 3021761 first in or closest first served.
(there are a few bits of carpet and stuff that you must take off my hands too so as to save me a bit of trouble.)
Call me...

Hey Mr...

The gig was great. John tried to exit the stage from the front onto the catwalk. Not that John is really model material.

Nice set. It's always good to share the stage with Epitome. Watching the shred head in motion is always tasty.

Hey peoples. Helmut from Fourth Member here.

Just reading through the JackLive banter. Lots to read. Seeming as I'm quite dislexic it took a bit longer than normal.

Thanks for the mentions. I couldn't help spotting The Cripple Mr Onion's name. We opened for them down in CHCH. Wow what a sound. Huge and crushing. Very melodic and dynamic.

Fourth Member are more pop/rock sounds. If you have not heard our latest single 'Sunsets' you can download a snippet from http://www.fourthmember.com or the whole promo video.

As far as voting goes, if you like pop/rock then vote Fourth Member. If you like dynamic melodic metal then vote Cripple Mr Onion.

But I would hope that you vote both if you are feeling generous.

Fourth Member are playing a Skate Park Gig in Wanganui this Friday.
cheers fullas!
