the bass playing glut lives in wellington.

now is this forum going to discuss the possiblity of Music works carrying a little more top end bass gear, or getting a feel for what we would like carried i.e. black nylon bass strings, a healthy array of seconfd hand basses. (or even refurbished basses) that type of thing

the current government in the UK is New Labour, say it with me labour, and again for the slow, LABOUR, they are essentially an MOR party, still they live on the premise that it is about a hand up and not a hand out, ok mr Crux here is a tip, at most local dairies they seem this thing it is made out of newsprint and is most black and white, but some times has pretty colour pictures for people like you, it is called a newspaper, in here they have stories about current affairs and even cute puppy stories so your brain doesn't hurt to much.

anyway please make an attempt to have facts before you spout such shit.

postman : 26 June 2005 - 5:55pm

// the nazi's were left wing.

has our education system deteriorated this far, the whole premise of the nazi's was nationalism, remember that I may refer to it later on.

the whole premise of nationalism is preserving what is in you nations interest above what is in the global interest, lets say similar to the republican party in the US. communism is globally focused with their worker centric mandate. in you definition of take from the rich and give to the poor robyn hood was a communist, however as communism was concieved around the time of mr hood (who is somewhat legend somewhat truth)

anyway I am not quite sure what my point was, oh yes that you argument is pretty retarded, and based on the thin veneer of a story that someone once told you.

postman : 22 June 2005 - 11:30pm

you could probably say something along the lines. are you retarded.

bands that in it for the money are either conservative christian rock ala Creed or sole less popstars ala back streets boys.

can you imagine how dull a song about the reduction of dependency on the welfare state, or support for flat rate taxation would be?

hmmm, I think you should quite possibly be looking for a clue before you look for music that endorses you political idealology

postman : 30 May 2005 - 8:50pm

it is the whole student radio argument again. Back in the '90's there was a whole question of why do the DJ's sound so unenthusiastic, contact made fun of this with the Ummm t-shirts, if the presenter were paid screeds of cash to enthusiasticly waaa on about tope 40 trite. you would be watching ZM

don't forget to through in the variance in dollar.

A large number of items sitting in Music stores in New Zealand were either imported or ordered when the dollar was around the 45 cent US mark therefore leaving retail stores with no choice but to hold the prices high as they still have recover that original cost.

Moving forward items should get cheaper however, this won't really happen until such time as all the old stock is cleared. the good news though is that dollar will only continue to creep up against the US making it good to import gear, however making it crap to export music as returns are lower

postman : 17 October 2004 - 7:07pm

of all the 6's I have played I would have to say the ibanez btb is the best in your price range, only problem is that music works has the license to sell ibanez (they are so crap their site wasn't even working when I went to have a look). if you can find a second hand one it should be well within your price range. the 35 inch makes all the difference in the B.

postman : 15 August 2004 - 10:12pm

does it go up to eleven?

postman : 10 August 2004 - 7:25pm

Another Bass player.

In order of purchase

1965 Yamaha SE75 semi acoustic bass short scale
ernie ball sterling fretless bass
1972 Fender Jazz bass (with emg's and a solid brass bridge)
New Zealand made Double bass with a solid top and back

1967 Yamaha SE50 Semi Acoustic guitar
Diplomat telecaster custom

Amps:
Hartke 2000 head
Eminence 4 x 10 Cabinet
Celestion 2 x 10 Cabinet
Vester maniac practise Amp

As with everything this line up will be added to with time and funds maybe a 5 6 or 8 eight string bass.

the yamaha bass I got this from cash converters when I was 14 and it still rules although the pick up have gone microphonic for the second time. It rules the short scale allows you to groove like a machine. and it is plain fat.

The musicman is a solid machine, it sings and is just so easy to play. I miss the ibanez musician that I traded it for but this bass just rules, it doesn't have fret markers but it is just easy to play.

The fender jazz this my forth fender and by far my favourite, The first a stu hamm was a little thin in it sound (I think cause of the original fender jazz pick ups in it, alas it was cheap thanks big bang music) The second was another '72 fender jazz that was mint including original pick up covers, alas it was a little thin. The third was a telecaster bass that was just poo. This one is perfect it is beat up the EMG's are fat and the bridge causes the bass to sing.

the double bass was a 21st presant to myself. needs new strings as it is too quiet

The guitars are exactly that, except the two yamahas are matching in a cheesey 1960's music video kinda way.

My Amp I have had Hartke heads since I was 16, this is the second it is solid and has been used in more bands than I know about (currently touring with batrider) This is a solid headI have had it for 7 years and it has broken down twice, plays a club gig on average once per fortnight. It sounds great and is solid.

The cabinets.

the 4 x 10 I have had since I was 16 well I have brought and sold it 3 times, it still sounds great, even though danny from danny's music world tried to rip me off when I purchased it. I think I have got the best deal.

The 2 x 10 some guy once traded it for my 4 x 10 and cash I use this with the double bass it is fairly solid.

this is average but has taken a pounding over the years.

effects
MXR phase 90
hot cake
prunes and custard
color sound wah
vox wah
acoustic simulator
boss bass chorus
a/b switch
electric mistress
bass compressor (good for the double bass)

I only really use the MXR as the tone just rules. the rest are due to some bizarre addiction I have.

I must mention that I do love late '70's early '80's Ibanez basses they are just so fat, but they are getting hard to find now. sigh.

I suggest that if you don't like it. take the following actions. close you eyes stick your fingers in your ears and shout la la la la until it disapears. that approach sometimes works for five year old and that is roughly where I see the maturity of discussion being.

postman : 2 June 2004 - 9:11pm

so have you found anything yet?
