I also go and see Marvey King play and i love the gigs, she is warm and endearing on stage, makes the crowd have sing-a-longs, plays with the coolest musicians and they arn't playing with her for the money, i'm sure she doesnt make much at Grand Central, also saw her support Jackson Browne and she rocked, i think she's jsut amazing, everyone has bad gigs, i mean i saw betchadupa play and there all over hte place, but i still know they rocked, unlike hollis people arn't perfect but in saying htat i havn't seen a bad gig, i'm sure that time will come, also saw her play at Float bar a couple of months ago and her voice is beautiful, her songs are slighty leftfield but thank god there not commercial crap and maybe you've never listened to her lyrics, im at uni anad i study literature and her lyrics are pretty out there unlike anyone elses, she does have a beautiful childlike quality and your comment about her being famous for the sake of being famous - well, that is just a joke.
Anyway that's just me, but i also love cat power, craftworks, and like marvey king they too are not the norm.

betchadupa, are fantastic, saw them play at Sunday Undressed. The thing about these guys is that they aren't afraid to be themselves, if they sing the wrong key, they keep going, they don't look all pissed off like alot of other bands, they play the wrong chord, they have fun with it, it's so great to see a band have fun without the influence of having to be cool to boot, you understand me, we need more bands like this. Love betchadupa they can only get better from here. the whole issue about there family, man who cares! Even better that you have a parent who has and still is in the same industry - happens all the time - get over it people.
goldenHorse, I have to say that the one good thing about Golden Horse is there Guitarist, apparently he plays solo as well, would love to see that. GoldenHorse arn't my cup of tea, but it will be interesting to see how the rest of New Zealand take them, luke warm on a rainy sunday.

can I just say something, I have come to these cute little forums and read what you all say about New Zealand musicians, there are a couple of people in here whom seem to think that they know everything about everyone, even going to low as to put down a person's personality, when I'm sorry, but i thought it was about the music, we have a serious case of tall poppy syndrome in this country and it is very clear here, shihad, or Pacifier have done to bloody well, we should be praising them regardless of whether you like the music or not, they are opening doors for so many other kiwi bands...thank God, some of you people like Hollis and Martha, I'm sorry but you guys really need your heads read!!! Maybe you didn't make it as musicians, but damn your criticism flows fast and furious.
