Nice guy as well and real helpful in recommending me something to use.
Does anyone know if there exists a place in Wellington where I could hire decent condenser mics?
Thanks
Yeah I remember lining up at like 4 in the arvo to go to that gig. It was superb. I'm not even really a Shihad fan but they put on a pretty memorable live show! It was pretty insane in Valve!
I got past the singles a while ago. i really got into the tracks Quick Show of Hands and Nothing is a Switch. Those kinda punk meets jazz fusion elements are things i wish the Mint Chicks would do more. Its something quite unique sounding and I guess on first listen it sounds a bit odd but later on when you click it's real cool. This album sounds great loud on a stereo as well. Everyone complained about how it was all lowfi etc etc.
I heard a new song off theirs on BFM the other day. Sounds like they have stepped up the production a bit. Couldnt really tell from the stream. But it was catchy and unique sounding. Check our their new website. They have a new album coming out next year.
Yeah I agree. Its bullshit. Most of the gigs I have been to even when the bands are smaller have been reasonably packed. I checked out a Nova Echo and So So Modern gig and that had quite a few people at it.
I guess after looking at the bands you have played with is that their are way way too many bands on the bill that noone has really heard of. I go to gigs nearly every week and I haven't seen any posters or even heard of any of those bands. You should try to get a gig with bands that are already pulling a reasonable number of people. Its all about networking at the end of the day.

I like that song with just the lyrics "Haaaaah haaaah haaaah" which goes for about 4 minutes.
These guys know how to play pretty fast. Wikked gig.
Uhhh they used to sound like ATDI. I don't think they sound at all like the Mars Volta.
At the moment they are sounding like the Ex-Models and Melt Banana. Check out those 2 bands. Very interesting.
I think the albums are full of catchy goodness and they write some 'nice' songs. Whether any of its relevant in 5 years time. Who knows?
I knew their live show was not very dynamic and went and checked them out at the BDO. Was kinda dissappointed very their performance. It was really sloppy. I guess after seeing The Mars Volta two days in a row you will have high expectations of a bands performance and musicianship.
The Mint Chicks are very very wikked. All the people making comparisons to ATDI, Blood Brothers are close. No cigar for you though. If you were to compare them to any band I would say, 'Q and Not U'.
So check out the album "No Kill NO Beep Beep"
The Mint Chicks are better though and have a much better live act. They have raised that bar high and I would like them to take it even higher.
Blue Team Go!
Pretty Girls Make Graves - Taking Pop, Indie and Punk and creating a mish mash of quirky, disjointed guitar with a new wave brand of riot girl pop.
The Blood Brothers - These guys are a exciting and dynamic act. This is the future or punk and rock.
They are breaking boundaries with how music is structured and how it should be played. Screaming takes on a new meaning with this band
The Cure - This band needs to play the Big Day Out. Imagine a whole crowd singing Just Like Heaven. Enough said.
You are a complete idiot man. If you even knew Tony(Matt) then you wouldn't say that. He has the biggest heart ever and is a good friend of many people here including me.
Before you start spouting off about someone maybe you actually get to know what they are really like. Thats what puts people in situations when they dont want to play in bands anymore. Its moronic comments like yours with no thought.
Uh effects are cool if you know how to use them right.
I'm currently using a Hot Cake Pedal, Electro Harmonix Memory Man, Electro Harmonix Big Muff and a MXR Phase.
Yah for vintage
That sucks. I'm sure you have though of this already but you might want to take the list of items down to Weta Music. Hope it all turns up.
Vince, I dont kiss ass where it doesn't deserved to be kissed Vince. I don't even listen to garage rock outside of going to the odd few gigs. In fact I think pretty much 99% of it is boring shite. Give me something more diverse like At the Drive-in, Blood Brothers, Thursday or Mars Volta.
BUT I think that TLBT aren't really that Garage anymore. I think they write dirty dark pop songs if you ask me. They do it extremely fucken well because they can write hooks unlike most of the other shite garage rock bands around. They put on a good live show as well.
Woah hold up there Beavis....
-"Since you lack a creative bone in your collective body"
Now thats pure shit. They write some damn great songs with catchy lyrics. Go check out their website too geynuts. You can't not be creative and produce something like that.
-"Steal a Datsuns track. Preferably not the one that they stole from Led Zep"
Uhmmm I think you could probably cast more comparisons to Sabbath than Led Zep so either you aren't really listening or just think you know what you are talking about.
What was the actual point of your post? There's so much jealousy going around because people can't handle that a NZ band is doing fairly well. Really the only question I can leave you with Vince is: Where is your band?
They keep FBI records on people that get out 'Bad Boy Bubby' at videoshops. Just goes to show how Australians are twisted when it comes to film making.
Ahhh so you are saying that two of New Zealands most dynamic live acts are average. Thats a pretty confident call there. If you weren't blown away by these two bands (This Night Creeps + The Mint Chicks) then what do you find inspiring?
Mars Volta
Thursday
The Blood Brothers
QOTSA
Sonic Youth
The Roots
Thats a fairly well rounded list and pretty realistic as well.
Well some of it does sound like Santana. Listen to Cicatriz. Heaps of the Omars guitar runs are pretty close to some of what Santana does. I wouldnt say they were influenced by him but the Spanish style of playing is very similar.
Uhm I saw them iN Wellington. The show was amazing. The music wasn't that tight and didn't have the bite. I hardly recognised IORR because Mick wasn't even singing the high notes in the chorus! Kieth Richards I'm sure is dead. He was playing about 2 seconds behind the rest of the band. I was about 8 rows from the front and there were a lot of times he was playing out of time. Thats why the keys and horn section were so high in the mix.
I did see them on the 40 Licks tour about 5 years ago and they were on form then. Everything sounded like a well oiled machine. Tight, muscular and energetic.
The show though had the most amazing atmosphere and they put on a fun show nonetheless!
