After another busy summer season that's seen them play to huge crowds all around Aotearoa, Wellington reggae/soul/funk/dub favourites The Black Seeds are packing their bags for their first ever tour of Australia in March and April. Timed to coincide with the Australian release of their debut album Keep On Pushing, the two week tour will give Aussie audiences a dozen chances to check out one of New Zealand's most energetic live acts, including three performances at the seaside Apollo Bay Music Festival and an album release show in Melbourne.
Keep On Pushing hits Australian shop shelves on March 31st, released by LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa through Shock Records. The Australian edition of the album will feature two bonus remix tracks lifted from the Keep On Pushing remix album Pushed, by Melbourne-based kiwi Jet Jaguar and LOOP Recordings labelmate 50Hz.

So who's in Dimmer these days anyway? I remember reading something about a new line-up, but no names were mentioned...
Oh yeah... are you gonna get ALH online? It's a crime not to, if you ask me. Even a straight up click-through-the-pages issue or downloadable PDF is a good way of spreading the word.
I like this:
More or less though, eh? It's certainly not a Wellington-only thang...
A Low Hum is looking great Blink. And all y'all indie magazine fans should keep an eye out for new issues of Back2Basics (hip hop), Disrupt (graffiti) and Manual (skateboarding) out soon. I've been lucky enough to preview the latter two and they're both looking fucking good.

...is also in Golden Horse, who released their debut album recently and are represented on this very site:

LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa artist Rhian Sheehan performs live-to-air from Marmalade Studios on Radio Active 89FM, joined by Hummel and other guests. Those outside of Wellington can listen to the live webcast at www.radioactive.fm
Wellington-based musician Rhian Sheehan discovered the limitless possibilities of computer-based music making while studying composition at Canterbury University and has since forged his own sound based equally on acoustic instruments (a classically trained guitarist, Rhian has performed with the likes of Paul Ubana Jones and Tommy Emmanuel), samples and synthesised sounds. His acclaimed debut album Paradigm Shift, released in June 2001, was picked as Kiwi Album Of The Year in 2001 by Evening Post critic Colin Morris and has since been a finalist for both the Best Electronica category of the 2002 New Zealand Music Awards and the Best Electronic Release category of the 2002 b.net New Zealand Music Awards.
Rhian Sheehan - Paradigm Shift is available now on LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa
> Software images - mainly bulk do the printing for you too.
> may do smaller runs www.softwareimages.co.nz
They do small runs too, but on CD-Rs not as a proper press (most plants require 500 units to do this - they gotta cut a proper glass master and things).
> what was that one in miramar that I kept forgetting the name of?
Amstore - www.amstore.co.nz (see above). They've done CDs by Roots Foundation, Fat Freddy's etc. and are super speedy if you're in Wellington.
Is that agentalvin's mix?

50Hz's new album Carbon is out this week.
It's been five years since the release of his acclaimed debut drum & bass full length Cyclehum, which was released in 1997 and named as one of Rip It Up's Top 100 NZ Albums Of All Time in 2000.
On Carbon Hz has broadened his scope considerably to include jazz, soul, downbeat and dub tracks as well as a handful of tracks in his signature cinematic breakbeat sound.
Guests include vocalists Ladi6 (Sheelahroc/Verse 2), Barnaby Weir (The Black Seeds/Dub Connection), Miss La (The Torch Set), Conrad Noema (Maia) and Pepsi Demacque (Wham!/Pespi & Shirley), and musicians from Fat Freddy's Drop, Ebb, The Black Seeds and Southside Of Bombay.
The album's lead single "Seek Know More" featuring Ladi6 debuted in the Top 10 of New Zealand's Alternative Radio Airplay Chart last week and is already number 1 on Radio Active's Top 11. Nice.

That guy/girl duo is "Some Velvet Morning" by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra. I believe it was covered by somebody-or-other on the Snakeskin soundtrack(?), but don't think it was Phoenix Foundation.

> it sucks that it's on a school night!
Actually, it's on a school day if you're in NZ...
> Listen from 8am-4pm, Friday 5th July NZT at: groovetech.com.
Why not take the day off? Or at least take your headphones to work.
Hold tight, it's much closer than you may imagine. From local distributor Border Music's release sheet this week:
---
After nine months of recording TrinityRoots return with the follow up to their self-titled EP. ‘True’ is released on May 20!!
Local trio TrinityRoots have completed their debut album ‘True.’ Drawing on their
influences ‘True’ sees the band venturing back to their roots, with Jazz, Blues and
Soul rubbing shoulders with the existing Dub and Reggae feeling. It is this musical
diversity that makes the album an enriching and soul-satisfying journey. ‘True’ is the
essence of TrinityRoots.
---
It's a great album, but will surprise a few people I'm sure...
> crap, crap, crap. i turned it off after 20 minutes
You probably missed the best bits then - Erika tripping up on her words and coming out with something that sounded remarkably like "c**t" and then laughing and looking all embarassed, and the time when they cut back from prerecorded live stuff to an almighty amount of feedback that would have made HDU or Carriage H proud.
And did anyone notice that hardly any of the presenters could read the autocue?
> and what the fuck was with the D4/Dsuper fuck up that i heard about.
From memory they were on point with D4 info, but said D-Super had moved to Australia(?). You never know, it might just have been some kind of cover-up for the fact that the band are now history...
Personally, I thought it was kinda cool that they mentioned the achievements of any smaller bands and labels whatsoever.
> Clearly they needed to spell it out.
Like they do on that NZ Music Awards theme song - "We communicate without any style".
;P
Ok will do you mad man, What is ya address??? Hope it's not too cold in Boston. Peace Mikee
