were you at the Dux on Saturday? Cause if you were I was there too. I was the obviously underage one accompanied by people pretending to be my parents.
haha I agree about the name (Rawer).
I saw them both at the Dux - both really good too. Thats the first time I've ever heard Meterman, and I was impressed.
a friend of mine got a signed copy of that album free. i was very jealous!
//Steve Albini produced Nirvana's 'In Utero' album.
oh yeah? i've never heard that - have been told to several times though. kurt cobain - there's another rockstar death. intentional that time though. it would be interesting to see which dead rockstars made the biggest impact on people, like robyns scale below. i have to say ian curtis would be top on mine, the guy from drowning pool might be pretty low though.
i don't know his family and friends either. and if one of the wiggles died, i really doubt you would care very much. you might even make fun of koe for caring. his music has everything to do with it - because we didn't know him, its the only reason we might have to care strongly about his death. i'd like to know if you are a drowning pool fan or not.
sounds like who is glad he died? i'm not certainly, just maybe slightly on the pity side of indifferant. but sure if you liked the band and stuff, its definately sad for you. (i'm not necessary talking about you tama drummer, just drowning pool fans in general). steve albini isn't just a producer! he was in big black, now he is in shellac. i'm not sure about the nirvana connection, i don't know that much about him to be honest. who is adam casper?
i hope steve albini doesn't die! well not soon anyway. and you know andrew you are really setting yourself up for being shot by hoardes of rabid drowning pool fans there. but to be honest i don't really care about the guy from drowning pool either - a lot of people die, he just happens to be one of them. and i didn't know him, or like his music at all although possibly i would prefer a band break-up to actual death.
looma should be the next big thing, i agree. but i don't think its all that likely.
i have to say i don't have that much faith in a joy division revival either - i had a big argument with my science class about whether in fact it was stupid to mistake joy division as the name of a girl (eg joy enriquez) which pretty much ended with everyone pointing at me and saying i liked weird music. and i don't think too many of them know who new order are either. that could be just my school, but i'm willing to bet that chch is not exactly a centre of new wave fandom.
hahaha. oh she is not my friend really. but she is ok. and i doubt any of her friends watch m2! so they probably will never see that video. and i would like my dad to be a musician - he is a doctor. yeah.
hahaha. um i think i'll refrain from that. she would probably rather i didn't mention it again. i saw that video for kiss someone on m2 i think. my friend and i were trying to guess which one he was.
dave mulcahy's daughter is in my class at school. she looked really frightened when i told her i liked superette.
that movie is r16. which is hugely irritating because it was no 1 on my 'to see' list.
i'd like to see television play the first CBGBs gig ever. (well i think it was). apparently they helped build the stage there themselves.
oh why the hell do these thing never come to chch? i would have really liked to see that.
just out of interest, is 'This Charming Van' any sort of reference to the Smiths 'This Charming Man'? Oh yeah i like you guys by the way. Well the track on Murmur that i've heard anyhow.
chch festival: i want to see
ghost world
culturejam
waking life (is this what its called? has ethen hawke in it anyway)
24 hr party people
my wife is an actress
mullholland drive
yeah well mine is not very long because i am not very old, but:
0-8 - straight out top 40 pop music. i had no idea what it was called or who sang it, i just listened to the stuff people in my year lip-synced to in school assemblies. i wasn't that interested.
9-10 - Still pop, but now i knew what it was called. i was a pretty hardout 91zm fan. i loved the spice girls.
11-12 - Went through a soft/christian rock stage. creed, live, etc. i hated all 'teenybopper' bands and pledged my life to killing nsync. this is the only part of my 'musical history' i am really ashamed of. listened to the edge + channel z.
13 - Got into placebo, ash, muse, new order (= turning point!). Realised the stupidity of creed and live. Started to like radiohead. listened to channel z.
14 (now) - Stopped liking all above bands (with the exception of new order) and discovered sonic youth and carriage h. from there got into joy division, mogwai, bailterspace, hdu, patti smith, television, augie march, the lucksmiths etc. stopped listening to radio almost completely and also stopped really hating 'teenybopper' bands. if i do listen to radio i listen to rdu.
thats where i am now i guess
recently i bought:
thurston moore - psychic hearts. i had a tape of this already so i'd listened to it lots but it only cost me $20 dollars and i didn't think it was available in new zealand.
24 Hour Party People - movie soundtrack. i don't really like the happy mondays, but i like new order and joy division are the best ever.
hdu - fireworks.
the go-betweens - 16 lovers lane.
tom verlaine - flashlight
can i have another two words?
Augie March
actually i want more
The Lucksmiths
The Go-Betweens
//"they" being the greedy fat cats of course and as we all know cats are evil.
AHAHAHAHA
this was obviously not a very constructive comment but that actually made me laugh aloud
Yeah - Kraftwerk and Chicks on Speed would be great to see. As would Le Tigre if they came. But the chances of my getting to Auckland are pretty slim, not to mention I am under the required age limit.
