Broken Wings was obviously a cover, its quite an old song isn't it? I know I've heard it before.
Yeah isn't "can you feel me" off the 1971 Led Zep album "Party at my crib"?
WHOA! I just saw this - "if you cant do both, youre not trained well".
HOLY SHIT! You have just insulted every funk and jazz bassist in the world, not to mention the good rock ones like Les Claypool and Flea.
The best jazz bassists use fretless basses + fingers, or more likely a double bass.
Picks are good for fast mononous playing - great for punk and ska. BUt any moron can pick up a pick and play along, its piss easy, you don't need ot be trained. To play well with fingers however, takes lots of practice and good training.
I see jazz as the highest form of music that rock players can reach - they evolve, and the best drummers, bassists, guitarists and pianists in the world are jazz players. And NOT ONE jazz bassist uses a pick.
Picks have their place, but undoubtedly the best bassists mostly use their fingers.
Heh I saw that, classic. I saw them live and the only time he played using fingers is when he dropped his pick.
I'd like to be nice, but I can't. It was honsetly the WORST bass sound I have ever heard out of equipment that nice!. He had a niiiiice ashdown amp+cab, with the EQ set to "VOMIT" and a niiiiiice Fender p-bass, with the tone knobs set to "ear-bleedingly high treble". Then played with a pick. Horrible.
This was in O-week, a couple days after I saw Jacky Tar (spelling?), where the guy had a Warwick Corvette bass and a Trace Elliot rig, and that was the NICEST live bass sound I had heard, I just about creamed my pants. JUST ABOUT.
For GODS SAKE man, learn how to spell. Say it slowly.....T...H....E...., you can do it.
"If Blindspott keep pushing themselves they could, in time, be up there with the likes of Linkin Park". Yep, they have all the traits - bleached hair, misspelled name, baggy pants.
I think they would be better off without a "turntablist", I like to compare scratching with all the other novelty sounds over the years. 70's: guitar voice tube (a la Peter Frampton). Disappeared. 80s: Synth drums and cheesy keyboards:Dead. See the pattern. Maybe it does take some skill to make a sound like when you walk in nylon soccer shorts. BUT, it took skills to do those other novelty sounds over the years, and my prediction is that DJs in rock bands will not last. Hip-hop buyers may like it, but people who wanna hear good honest rock, don't wanna hear scratching ruining the sound the whole way through.
Thats my opinion, I'm interested to see what others have to say about this subject. Not you BLiNdSpOTT1, we know what you think, evidently Blindspott are "tha bom koz wot they do is phat".
Overall though, I think Blindspott have promise - I'm not a huge fan, but I think they are definitely good enough to be fairly big on the NZ and Aussie market.
"If you cant say anything else keep your dont say anything at all"
Nice, very well said. Also quoting from your post, this applies to me as well: "quite fankly i dont give a shit about what you think of me".
I shared my opinion, you are welcome to share yours. Good. Fine. Great. I'm being an adult about this, I haven't thrown any insults, just grow up. If you think hassling me is going to enhance your life, go for it.
I would say, that NZ drum and bass is on the same scale of filth as foreign drum and bass, except NZers are cooler.
As for electronic music in general, I havent heard much NZ stuff, but Strawpeople is awesome, and all the dub/reggae-influenced stuff is pretty good.
Can't say I'm a fan of all of Salmonella Dub's stuff, but they are a great live band.
Oh I have to add - if you only go to one show in Wellington this month....make it TOOL! NO QUESTION!
Hell I'm all for supporting NZ music, but when a band like Tool comes, you gotta go! (I went to the last show in chch in august, and they are AMAZING)
heh I have to say.....bugger off.
Sorry but I'm allergic to fake drums, and the only good DJing I have heard is in the Avalanches. Otherwise I can't stand it, but everyone to their own. Breakdancing is cool, when its good.
Whats with these hip-hop bands ripping off the transformers? Optimus Prime, Deceptikonz etc.......
Uh, P-money is not exactly to everyones tastes.....its not in my CD collection. I'd rather spend my hard earned money on Shihad's back catalogue.
But this CD sounds pretty good!
"its really tiresome". I'm not complaining about this for nothing, I was making a point that the record industry is corrupt, and Rubicon is one product of it. Their popularity has a direct relationship with how much money the industry puts into them, eg the bands I mentioned.
I'm not trying to change anything, I was making a point.
Oh I like very little at all? You have gathered this from the 5 or so posts I have, on one message board, about one band, on a New Zealand music website. Wow. Genius.
And I have SOME respect for other peoples tastes - IF those peoples tastes are justified by liking someone that deserves credit, meaning they play their instruments well, and write well thought-out songs. Rubicon CAN play their intruments, but I wouldn't call them musical or lyrical genii for writing 4-chord pop songs about a kid named Bruce. I'm not sulking, I'm just dishing out some well needed criticism.
Saw them at cuba carnival (weeks ago now), they were damn good! Very trippy, easy to go into a trance while listening to these guys.
It was quite funny though - most of it is kinda depressing, so all the happy cuba carnival people turned into silent, frowning people - the whole crowd went silent and was looking at the ground, it was classic.
But big ups to cloudboy, a great band to see live!
Don't hassle the rockshop man, they support NZ music, and have a great selection of music gear. They also sponsor the rockquest, and thats gotta be good.
Creed? They're not dickheads, they are just Americanlike. I would say they are closer to Days of The New, or somethign a bit heavier than Creed, but still very american.
Blindspott are a product of america as well - the 5 piece DJ band. They are not entirely bad, but still, they should not really be called NZ music.
"if rubicon were absolute bullshit, they wouldnt sell".....
At this point, I would like ot bring your attention to the ENTIRE RECORD INDUSTRY. In particular - Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Creed, POD, Britney SPears, SHAKIRA, Ja Rule.
Rubicon are complete bullshit - thats exactly why they sell. The record industry said "hey this is cool kids, buy it" so they did.
Take back your statement.
"FUCKING AMERICAN YUUPIE BASTARDS!!!!!!!!"
---*over radio*---"security staff to starbucks, security to starbucks"----
Boat Song - Shihad
Four Seasons in One Day - Crowded House
Fall at your Feet - Crowded House
Jeez, how could you guys leave out Neil Finn???
I definitely agree with "For whatever reason" by Supergroove, its awesome.
You can't start new forums. I'd rather dump my verbal abuse here.
Plus, if everyone came on here and said "I love rubicon" there would be no point in it. It is for DISCUSSION - good and bad.
Hasselhoff Expt have a cd, I have listened to it. They rock, and I doubt they are jealous of elemeno P as well..
Elemeno P sound pretty cool so far, not the greatest singing voice (in fact its yelling, not singing) but its catchy and fun, so good for them.
Great to see an apology, you have gained a lot of respect from me (if it means anything).
Well heres a wee story about got the woo - It came about when we were jamming, we chose the simplest riff EVER, as a joke, and started pretending we were harout rockers doing all the cliche rock poses, but then we kept playing. Also our singer was absent, so we just filled in the gaps with "woo" (our catch phrase at the time). We were too unco to play and sing, so we kept with woo. It was all done on cheap-ass shitty gear, and the drums were recorded with the infamous $14 warehouse mic. The plan was to make the song with the shitty 3-chord riff as the verse, with breaks of different styles - in the current version we have disco and a hip-hop mockery. The plan was to make a long version with breaks of jazz, latin, lounge, and drum&bass and techno mockeries. We didnt get around to it because our drummer left the country, but we have a new drummer, our computer.
So now its just me and Seamus, going hard. And watch out for our new songs out soon. The lineup includes "I use shampoo" and "I don't drink water". Also "Liam Finn eats shit" (we have nothing against him, in fact we like Betchadupa a lot, and he doesnt eat shit). This song will probably not be released, due to us not wanting to go to court.
Pitchblack - Cheers man, looks like theres at least SOMEONE in this forum that can take a joke and relax. We will keep rockin' up, and we'll keep playing our music for ourselves, not make commercially viable songs aimed at a target audience of 14 year old girls.
Incubabe - I can hassle Incubus instead of Rubicon if you want....although, as much as I disapprove of DJs in a rock band, they are not too bad. Also, learn to spell.
And you know whats fun about hassling Rubicon? READ THE EMAILS I GOT. They made my day. Also, getting messages from helpless disgruntled fans who can to nothing to protect the tainted image of their favourite group. Look at yourself. And "iloverubicon'.
FAR OUT.
Do you people take EVERYTHING SERIOUSLY?
Whine whine whine. Relax! People who criticise marxist.....go get f**ked! Its a JOKE. We are just having FUN.
I posted this up here because I thought it was quite funny....I dont want praise or attention, I was trying to lighten up someones day....evidently you people cannot be made happy, so I'll give up.
I could smell the red caps swarming as soon as I saw the posters up.
What an awful combination of bands.....I feel sorry for Che Fu and Tadpole having to put up with Rubicon and Sivlerchair........
Far out! These guys rock!
That song "morning after" is so cool!
Yes, we have no shame.
The address is www.mp3.com/marxist
I wouldn't say they fused hip-hop and rock....I'd just call it funk/rock. All these people that think any hint of singing without a defined tune is hip-hop - listen to some old school funk, they do some rapping sort of stuff in there but it's not defined as "hip-hop".
But supergroove back in the day when there were 7 of them, they rocked! I have traction and all of the singles (box set) and every song including their B-sides is awesome! I have backspacer too, but its just not the same.
