There's a very interesting article/interview in the new North & South magazine you might want to check out. It's different from the usual music mag/weekend newspaper stuff partly because it was written by a writer who usually does investigative journalism. Though it's a bit long to read while standing in the shop, and you won't want to pay for the entire magazine just for that, but you might be interested.

This has got to be a record of some kind, the most posts in a single thread recently that doesn't feature a message from St. Lucy. Does St. Lucy have like a website or something where I can perhaps download mp3s from?

Physiopath : 1 September 2002 - 12:50am

Andoru got it right. I started this thread on a Saturday night. I wasn't out, I was in front of my computer on a Saturday night.

Yeah it's annoying when people get stuff wrong, but talking in front of a camera with lots of bright lights on you makes it much easier to slip up I'm sure. Tell you what, I think I wasn't annoyed by your mistakes so much as you waving that album around making me go "I wish I had that CD and I don't yet. She's does. Grr."

I hope you're doing Squeeze next year Jane?

Physiopath : 31 August 2002 - 4:00am

Saw Jane Yee reviewing the new Queens of the Stone Age album on M2, and boy did she get shit wrong. She said Dave Grohl played guitar on the record. He played drums. You can see that in the video they play. She said the singer's name was "Josh Holmes". She described the album as "sonic lullabies". LULLABIES?
Maybe I'll get flamed by all the JY fanboys who post here, but I slightly resent clueless people getting free CDs and giving their clueless opinions to others. But I guess she pre-redeemed herself when she called Moby a fag a few minutes earlier.

Can someone who knows more about the 'industry' answer:

How much money is involved when a band's music is used on TV? When Slim's 'Real World' is used by Export Gold, or I heard Betchadupa on - I think it was - a Holden ad and I was curious how much (approximately) they'd earn from that.
And when Havoc & Newsboy play a snippet of 'Enter Spacecapsule' by Gerling during their show, do they have to pay for that?

Physiopath : 26 June 2002 - 2:28am

I used to loathe Jacqui Brown on Space, but since Dominic left, I think she's way better with Mr Sundae. Jane is a fine presenter I agree, but I'd rather Jacqui was kept. Paul Reid was not a good presenter.

Oh, and when she did Space Jane said something about Timo Maas not getting any because he was a fat German, then she and Paul did this awkward "we take it back" thing after the adbreak. That was really funny.

If you want to see metal bands live, there's quite a few around isn't there? They don't seem to tour much though, (compared to bands that play other genres) they just play lots in their hometowns.
I'd also be keen to hear of any good hardcore/metal that's been released on CD. I know the obvious ones like Dayone, 8FS, Product and I know Evil Priest just released an album, anything else good? Did Dayone release anything before 'Less Than Perfect'? Did DSM or Daredevil or The Slit Family release anything before splitting up?

Physiopath : 25 April 2002 - 3:58am

2001 had some good ones. Cabbage H from Otago?

What I find shocking are the bands with other bands' names. Like there were at least 3 bands called Exit in the heats last year. Or the tossers who called themselves The Band. There was already a band called that, they were really famous, you (and your music teachers and your parents) are LAME if you haven't heard of them!
Other ones I remember for being lame: The Girlz, Best Friends 4 Eva, Prevail.

"Puke on her while we're fucking/ But she still won't fuckin' dump me."
"Mad at me for drinking beer/ I should have been a queer"

The Get Fucked Ups

Physiopath : 12 April 2002 - 3:42am

I agree. It just does seem to "fit" better in hiphop doesn't it? I remember the first time I heard 'Nil By Mouth' by Blindspott I thought "Those turntable noises are so unnecessary and irritating, so obviously there just to be like a particular other American band, surely they'll get rid of that DJ." I was wrong, they kept him, but he still adds nothing but lameness to their sound.

Physiopath : 10 April 2002 - 3:11am

Lindon Puffin & the Bleeding Hearts - Rock No More
>Absolutely hideous. Aural equivalent of Mary Lambie's "style".

Shapeshifter - Move With Me
>Even though I'm not a big D&B fan, I really like this. Subtle, like Carolyn Nightline's plastic surgery.

Not much point in slagging Eight, Nato's description above is so goddam perfect I wish I'd thought of it.

Physiopath : 8 April 2002 - 3:09am

Um, I probably spelt it wrong. Is Il Nino a Latinish-numetal-emo band signed to Roadrunner? I think they're meant to be the next big RR success story (to replace those quitters Fear Factory) since Glassjaw did quite well it makes sense for RR to pinch more emo/scremo bands.

Hey I thought it was funny that you said P-Money was "credible" when he made no secret of the fact that he dedicated his (almost) entire show to a CD he was (co-) releasing. I thought you'd think that was whorish. Did you see him on the couch during Number 8? Jane and P-Money sitting in a tree...

Physiopath : 7 April 2002 - 2:06am

I have a problem with Aaria's credibility. Not because they're an audion-group. Not because they've (already) forsaken their Te Reo. But because of the lyrics to the new single. It's not credible for a big stocky Maori guy to be going "I don't wanna cry no more" when he looks like the type who'd make other people cry.

Physiopath : 7 April 2002 - 1:59am

Megaccino, are you asking if any of the RR sampler bands are from NZ? I don't think Roadrunner have any NZ signings. Haven't you heard of Coal Chamber before?
That Ill Nino song sounds like Linkin Park.

Physiopath : 7 April 2002 - 1:52am

"Unfortunately Daniel is pretty sick and left Queens Wharf Event Centre on crutches, and look pretty crappy, he could barely stand up."

Gee isn't he over that eating disorder yet? He sounds hungry.

Physiopath : 23 March 2002 - 4:37am

The Skeptics - Affco
Jakob - Nice Day For an Earthquake

Also, an Inchworm video, possibly 'Umbrella' which is an animation of a drawing on a desk. When I saw that my jaw just dropped open and stayed down. How'd they do that? I just like animated videos I guess, like the Bats one where he picks his nose and that Exponents one - 'Do You Feel In Love?' Animation is unboring.

Physiopath : 23 March 2002 - 4:34am

Shit is the guy:girl posting ratio like this in the other forums? We seem outnumbered all of a sudden.

Brunettes vocalist. I think her name is Heather.

Physiopath : 17 March 2002 - 2:09am

If you're going to pick on a Zed song, 'Oh Daisy' is the lamest, I thought. What about Voom's 'Beth's Song': "I'll still carry on/ Feeling these feelings that I feel." No wait, I like that line.
I know: Blindspott, 'Nil By Mouth' - that chorus. I believe it's: "Argh! Yargh! Bwargh! Mwargh!" Well done.

Physiopath : 17 March 2002 - 2:03am

Yeah, I watched Squeeze too. Wasn't the new K'Lee video bad? Though maybe it's the song I really hate. She does a 4-line rap which starts with "Universal is the (label) that pays me" and ends with "Brotha D make the crowd go crazy!" and then Brotha D does some rapping. He's wearing sunglasses in a dark cave. He says "Getcha groove on!" which I thought was a Fred Durst line. So Brotha D recycles Durst's lyrics?

Other than that, 'Thank You' by Stereobus was horrible & ugly. And of course 'Bruce'.

Physiopath : 8 March 2002 - 7:17pm

//they just make music and hate people making their religion an issue.

I thought Christians weren't allowed to hate anyone except Satan?

Speaking of Satan, isn't Satanism just the dumbest religion ever invented. And the same could be said: All (supposedly) Satanist bands sound the same. Really.

Goddam, The Lads are shit though.

Physiopath : 1 March 2002 - 2:04am

Do any of your websites have guitar tab on them? Or can anyone teach me how to play 'Hey Little' 'Buttermilk' or 'Moscow Snow'? I guess you can't really post tab in these forums...
'Cause their songs are great but they're hard to figure out. Most seem to be in Eb tuning, is that right?

Physiopath : 1 March 2002 - 1:16am

Just adding a 2nd recommendation: I've seen Misled By Lies a few times now and they are ALWAYS worth it.

Have MBL released any music for sale to the public?

Physiopath : 23 February 2002 - 1:47am

//i also cant handle ppl that try and convert u 2 a religion-wat would u call them??

Um... I'd call them "credible". If I had a friend who was Xian, then he/she would actually believe that I (as an atheist) was going to hell when I died. And as a consequence, suffer an eternity of absolute agony. If he was truly my friend and cared about me, I'd expect Friend to try & convert me, because I'd expect Friend wouldn't want me to suffer so much pain for so long (which he actually believes I will). Since Friend does not, I conclude that Friend doesn't ACTUALLY believe it will happen.
Christians who actually read the Bible, don't curse, abstain from sex before marriage, hate homos, go to church, fund missionaries to go to Africa, and spend their time trying to convert heathens are some of the lamest people on Earth. But I actually take their faith seriously.
As for everyone else, I suspect they just need to have a good think and they'll snap out of it...

Physiopath : 21 February 2002 - 2:43am

I guess Gene is like the drummer from Zed. Isn't allowed to do many TV interviews, deep in the background for the poster photoshoot, NEVER a fan favourite etc.
But doesn't anyone else agree that the a chunk of 'Happy Song' is melodically identical to the chorus of 'Everyday Formula'?
And whoever was praising NOFX further up this post, did you know 'Pump Up the Valium rips off 'You Love Me Too Much' by The Beatles? Is that punk?

Physiopath : 20 February 2002 - 1:14am

Oh come on.
I think you hardcore fans say quite a lot about the IQ level Rubicon's music caters for. You are obviously in too much of a hurry (or too giddy from your adoring delirium) to spell/punctuate properly, but have the time to use lots of exclamation marks?
Anyway, my point was you don't seem to care much about their music or the bandmembers as people despite your use of caps. You just think they're goodlooking and want some semicelebrity males to collect pictures of. Because you think you're too old for Westlife but you don't like rockmusic yet. I don't obsessively follow their music but know that Paul Reid owns a lot of CDs, has heard a lot of music and goes to many gigs. I can't believe he would never have heard 'Everyday Formula' by Regurgitator. And 'Happy Song' is a rip off of it. And you fans couldn't even tell me if it was a cover or not...
