Well, I managed to start a band!! Hooray! However we need half a rhythm section, i.e. a person to hit the things while the rest of us prance around. Race, creed, gender, sexuality, religion are all irrelevant, although no emos, gangstas or religious zealots please. Prefer someone laidback and easygoing, with some decent skills. We have all been playing about three or four years at least. I am 18 and others are both 19. An interest in all kinds of rock, blues, reggae, funk, psychedelia would be great. Not looking for some technical genius, just someone who loves what they do.
Currently two members reside in West Auckland, one in East. Looking for a practice space, at the moment playing in a garage.
Hit me up (haha) 0211817787, james.m.hendrix@gmail.com, or on here. Peace
My gosh, a blonde blue eyed guitarist! I have found a kindred spirit!
Jokes. Sounds fun. Tell you what, if you get two drummers replying, give one to me and I will give you...um...this chocolate fish! It probably can't drum that well but I'd place bets on it in an IQ test! Haha! Or, or, I can give you a singer.
I'm a guitar player, but don't shoot me! I would really like to play in a band, even as a willing rhythm guitarist. I enjoy Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Tool, Kyuss, Shihad, Deftones, Sublime, Trinity Roots, Bob Marley, Metallica (how weird), Hendrix (is my idol), and all sorts of other stuff.
More interested in a broad approach - I don't want to be stuck to just having one sound like 8 Foot Sativa or equally ear-abusing bad bands.
I live in West Auckland, so something there or thereabouts would be good =)
Who wears it? Why? Who thinks it's silly, and consumer-whore-only? What do y'all think about merchandise?
I personally pretty much exclusively wear band t-shirts. Firstly, I think they look cool. Secondly, I am pretty much all about music-its something I love, so I tend to surround myself with it. And thirdly, its so cheap! I go to Bands 'n' Brands in Glen Eden (aucks), and get a few shirts at a time for the money I might spend on one at somewhere like a Billabong/Rip Curl/Amazon store. They're about the same price as getting pretty plain shirts at Hallensteins too.
And I like the colour.
Sounds is generally OK, but yeah I think it's the hollowed-out-ness that gets me. When they ask if you need help, it's like they're begging you to ask the same question.
I find that Real Groovy staff are at either end of the extreme-helpful, and you have hour long chats with them about the band Cake, or angry at you for disturbing them from being angry.
I'm just reminded of Shrek:
"D'you think mebbe he's compensatin' fer somethin?"
What a depressing outlook on life you have!!!! I think it's ok that women are running everything. It's about time they got around to that. The only thing I say is that there are reasons that men have done the business, women the caring-its in our make-up (shush, I know girls have more). No seriously, men are less compassionate/less driven by emotion, which tends to point to leadership. Women are emotional, its genetic, and so tend to be in the caring roles. Its a complimentary thing mostly, two emotional people are gonna fail at life as well as two...males. But that was in the old days. We don't really need to be the hunter gatherers, and women don't need to be the doting protective mothers. I reckon that women being in charge is a good sign for men, because it means we can move out of the "you careless, heartless pig" role. Sure, some crazy feminist cows say we are, but not everyone. There are heaps more male nurses now than at any stage. Of course, we get the insults and jeers about being effing wankers, but I just have this to say: what would the fun be in insulting the weak? If men were really losing the dominance thing, we would see fewer jokes-not more. BUT this doesn't mean that we blokes hold the power/should hold the power-there are heaps more jokes nowadays about feminists and butch women and all that. I think it's becoming more even, and I don't have a problem with that.
Go me!
Well, I was just thinking that when he said 90% accuracy, 10% of the population is really quite large and I'm sure they don't want close to $15k missing from their bank accounts.
Does anyone think, like me, that getting the Jimmy Page "ZOSO" tattooed on my inner forearm would be kinda cool? I mean I have no relation to the man, except in spirit and curliness of hair. But its a cool symbol and he was a guitarist, like myself.
Other ones-John Mayer (don't laugh at me!) has quite cool ones on his forearm.
About the NZ tattoos...I quite like Koru designs but I'm about as honky as they come. Anyone know of anything that is more of a general message in Maori?

Nobody should ever mention Shihad.
I think the whole thing is that New Zealand doesn't exist, its just a concept used to attract intelligent immigrants. Whether it works is debatable. But thats besides the point, there isn't really a "Kiwi" sound because NZ is and always has been a melting pot of sorts. Our first track "Blue Smoke" was just a nicked version of someone else's song, and that is NZ-we have always been a rip off. But a bloody good one. 'cept Shihad. Wankers.
I voted Goldenhorse by the way, because their sound is I think closest to the concept that is NZ-relaxed and kinda cheesy. But so is Canada.
Listen to Bob Dylan. I don't even like him musically but lyrically he's good, songs like Shelter from the Storm especially. Wait to solve the musical problem, try Neil Young. He's good. Read poetry. I find that sometimes if you're doing art, painting etc, it helps to draw scenes from poems or songs. Neil Young songs like Cortez the Killer and Thrasher are cool because they're ramblin', storylike songs.
Failing that, catch a bus somewhere. Like someone said, write things about people on buses. If nothing else, you will learn who to avoid.
Anyone got the album? What did you think?
I like the Bleeders and have the EP and the album, but I much prefer the EP. Something about the album lacks the razors and hard edge that was on the EP and also in their live performances. I saw them at the Studio at first and they were excellent. I don't think they have "sold out" as a lot of people are saying (not just saying that because I fear them), I reckon its awesome they got on a big label. But wheres the hardness?
By the way, the name is Hayden.
