oh, should be fixed now.

ADMIN : 10 October 2006 - 5:21pm

aha - a bit of a config problem. Just looking into it now, should be right soon...

ADMIN : 24 August 2006 - 4:12pm

// The Puppeteers submitted mp3s to NZmusic.com three times,
// none of these requests resulted in them appearing on the page.

we're getting out of the mp3 game for the time-being. People who have emailed admin or via the info email address have generally been pointed in the right direction with alternate solutions. Other people have more resources to throw at that sort of thing, such as...

// Myspace had them up there in two minutes.

// Go figure

Well, on the one hand, you've got MySpace, with millions of dollars of investor backing and hundreds of employees, and on the other you've got nzmusic.com, run on a shoestring budget by fewer people than you'd find in your average band.

// I guess the disadvantage of having a server offsite
// is that you can't give it a good whack.

heh. indeed.

wouldn't mind whacking some of the support people I have to deal with too.

ADMIN : 18 August 2006 - 2:11pm

well. that was interesting.

ADMIN : 16 August 2006 - 9:05pm

aarrrgghh! crazy jrun error. just #$%! off! grrr.

ok. feeling better now...

ADMIN : 25 July 2006 - 4:33pm

Hey all,

it's not just you, the site is indeed running slow again. We've got a recurring and difficult to pinpoint problem that's causing us no end of grief. Should be back to normal soon.

ADMIN : 25 July 2006 - 4:27pm

the topic starters for the news forums are generated automatically from news items entered by nzm staff or those with nzm artist logins. If you're not one of those, you can't start a news topic, but can comment on them.

ADMIN : 14 July 2006 - 3:50pm

// Fighting the Shakes seem to be denied an Artists page on this site

can't actually find your registration request in the queue.

feel free to register again, and I'll make sure it gets processed.

the main issue behind slow registration process times at the moment is that we're rebuilding most of the site, and the current system will eventually be made redundant, so we're not spending a lot of time on processing the current queue, as it's essentially work that slows us down from implementing the new system. Feel free to rark us up if you are desperate for an artist page, though, and, as this thread illustrates, there's nothing stopping you from advertising upcoming events via the forum.

ADMIN : 13 June 2006 - 1:58pm

indeed, it would seem to be a universal problem - the site's cookie isn't 'sticking' when you close your session.

looking into it...

ADMIN : 26 May 2006 - 6:41pm

and what venues have you been adding listings for groggy?

ADMIN : 26 May 2006 - 6:29pm

They have to go through an approval process, which has been intermittent recently, as the various people who usually do it have been either a) sick, b) busy with other stuff, or, more commonly c) both.

we'll try and get up to speed as soon as possible.

ADMIN : 17 May 2006 - 2:01pm

we were likewise bemused about the amount of compression put on the images of the girls.

at least you didn't have to put up with the 'audio' version of the 24 ad they sent us to start with.

beep beep beep. beep beep beep. beep beep beep. etc.

nightmare.

ADMIN : 17 May 2006 - 1:59pm

// like lynx on top of the 24 one? extreme

ah, whoops, my mistake. forgot to remove the 24 ad code from a particular spot.

fixed.

ADMIN : 13 May 2006 - 7:51pm

just a little medicinal brandy to see it through this cold welly afternoon.

ADMIN : 13 May 2006 - 6:46pm

poor little web-server. doesn't know what time it is.

don't worry though, we're coaxing it back to full health.

ADMIN : 6 May 2006 - 1:51pm

// Any of the mods aware of these issues?

All too horribly aware, I'm afraid.

The hope was that the shift to the new server would alleviate the problems the site was experiencing, and, for a short time it did, but it's now becoming more and more apparent that the site has outgrown the code it was built on, and a lot of the pages on the site are overburdening the server (the full 'today was a day where...' page, for example, is now 1MB+ per page load), resulting in an across-the-board slow-down.

Rather than spend time trying to re-code the existing forums, we're going flat-out to implement a new forum, which should be a *lot* faster than the current system. Give it a week, or so, touch wood.

(Oh, and the date issue is to do with the new home of the nzm server, which is in some other timezone - so there was a bit of fiddling with date/time stamps when we shifted, resulting in some weird behaviour. Again, hopefully, this will be resolved when the new forums go live).

ADMIN : 2 May 2006 - 4:17pm

Sorry about the site being down this morning (not the best time, first day of nz music month and all).

First the system clock went wonky, then the whole server decided to throw a wobbly. Things should be coming right now.

ADMIN : 20 April 2006 - 1:22pm

It would appear that one of the odd side effects of the recent server switch is that logging in from nzmusic.com (as opposed to www.nzmusic.com) doesn't log you in correctly.

We're just looking into how to fix this so it doesn't matter which path you take, but, in the meantime, it would seem the best way to log in and stay logged in is to enter via the www version...

apparently not, although it did work okay in the forum listings, just not on the actual forum itself.. special character seemed to work okay though. it is that accent thing over the 'o', isn't it?

ADMIN : 17 April 2006 - 10:34pm

thanks Tama - one of a few quirks that has popped up after the server shift (seems to be sorting by userID, as opposed to no. of posts, so should be relatively easy to sort out).

will take a look at fixing that (and the other oddities) when I've got the code in front of me tomorrow morning.

cheers.

ADMIN : 14 April 2006 - 1:14pm

fixed. oddly enough, it would have affected the old server the same way - an error with how the code handled the displaying of a band bio that didn't contain a full stop in it somewhere.

ADMIN : 14 April 2006 - 4:19am

thanks guys. looking into it now. got a redirect in place in the meantime...

ADMIN : 13 April 2006 - 11:34pm

I agree.
