I agree with Blink. Good on you for the efforts - Channel Z was an important transition point in terms of underground to commercial, and it helped break a load of NZ artists. If you can focus on what the station did right and try to avoid the things that it didn't do so well, perhaps it could work...
Good luck I say. Might not be everyone's cup of tea (as has been demonstrated by those who've already written it off while still in development stages), but no radio station is ever going to please everyone. At the end of the day, these guys are taking some initiative and starting up their own version of the station, which essentially means they can do whatever they like format wise. Starting up a radio station is a huge risk, resurrecting one is probably just as risky so it's a gutsy thing to attempt.
I'm not saying everyone should be all "great guys, can't wait", but I don't reckon they owe any of us anything either. If they get it right it'll float, if they don't it won't.
Could you please provide the link where you got this info from? Thanks.
Irish rock band U2 will play a second New Zealand concert in Auckland on Saturday, March 18.

Admittedly there were a good few EMI artists, but there were also other labels represented by Elemeno P, Spiderbait, Sir Vere, Sola Rosa, and the D4.
I wasn't saying that they deserved the award any more than anyone else 'because' Dann was so young when he wrote it, I simply think that's a point of interest in the song.
My main point was there are lots of great songs that have lyrics that would look pretty cheesey on paper. I think the true strength of the Evermore song is in the music, but to be honest, I don't find the lyrics offensive at all.
I think a lot of lyrics can look trite when read without the accompanying music. I think the lyrics work fine with the music. What amazes me about this song is that it was written by Dann when he was only around 14/15 - that's gotta look good on the CV.
JackieG, your brother is very tall.
Now now rope, there's nothing wrong with being proud of your siblings, I'm proud of mine.
OK jackieg, I'm gonna need you to name drop because I don't know who your brother is. If you don't want to say his actual name, perhaps you could just give me some clues.
PS: If it's Dave Dobbyn you're particularly keen to meet, then I totally think you should say hi as he is a lovely fella and I'm fairly certain he'd be more than pleasant.
If you have the confidence to just go ahead and strike up a conversation, then go for it, but it can be kinda hard if you're nervous to 'just relax and have a chat'. Also, you don't want to end up in a situation where you're talking with them for so long that their friends leave them for the bar and they're too polite to break the conversation. It should be pretty obvious from their non-verbal communication if they are happy to keep talking or not.
If you just wanna get in there and say "hey, love your work" then I reckon that's fine too. Most artists, I'm sure, wouldn't mind meeting their fans and saying a quick hello.
I'd just like to point out that I have never been fucked at the drive thru. Though, sometimes they don't get my order right.
It's really only a minor mistake, I'm hardly gonna lynch the guy over it.
"The 1st hour of tonight NZ music special looks at music from Auckland. Situated at the top of the North Island and surround by water Auckland has an edgier vibe.
A thriving indie rock scene producing bands such as The Shocking Pinks..."
Um...?
Unfortunately, not in Wellington. I'm sure I'll catch them one day...
I like this album a lot and I fear that there are a lot of people out there who would enjoy it equally but it won't cross their minds to pick it up and give it a listen.
For some reason I thought this forum was about Formula One racing and I got all excited. This is not to say that Gran Prix aren't worthy of a discussion, but I don't know their stuff to be able to comment.
I think you're right on the Tuesdays call. They have a song called 'The Other Way' (funnily enough). Only thing is, it's a female vocalist - however, there are male backing vocals too.

Yeaaah, not quite. The band broke up and all went their separate ways - Matt did fill in for Ben who had to return to NZ for personal reasons while they were in Germany, so for a few weeks Matt took over for some shows in the UK and Germany. He's not actually in Zed and he definitely didn't "leave" Bolbox Rex for that reason as Bolbox Rex dissolved about ten months prior.
On my way to work today some guy pulled out in front of me without looking and damn near drove me off the road. And wouldn't you know it, it was a bloody whitey. Typical.
Billy Joe - Too cute
Noel Gallagher - classic
Ozzy - again, classic
Shirley Manson - um... improved with age
Courtney Love - Frances Bean anyone?
Yeah I know it's obvious, that's kinda the point. You know, as in - we can speculate all we like, but we'll have to wait and see.
