Ok ok .. I'm gonna get shot in the face for this one.. BUT I personally found Die!Die!Die! album to be hugley overrated.. I mean whilst I appreciate them in some shape as a live act having quite enjoyed their set a couple times.. I find the CD grating and quite frankly unlistenable.. maybe i am missing something and dont understand the stripe of the cool spectrum that it fits into.. but its not my cup o tea.
Andrew and the Johnsons... so so overrated and over recognised.. yes its different in some parts and yes his voice does have moments of beauty... but it just isnt as good as it was made out to be...
Franz ferdinand and The Arcade Fire and a few others however.. exceeded my cynical expectations as second releases...
No no.. no chinese whispers on this one.. Blink knows what he is saying I am pretty sure... maybe someone will bring them around next year if they seemed reasonably possible for orientation

They were fucking awesome...
I love their presence as a live band.. for two skinny indie musos, they sure hold thier ground.
they were suprisingly bashful and coy at times though, not at all like the other twice I have seen them..
also they lacked the retro microphones and chain smoking that I associate with them..
Electric though.. definatley electric
The Whipping Cats were fucking Ace too

Resource consent law replace dNoise control law.. it is what the noise control officers now enforce.. stating certain DB levels or acceptable noise practices all measurable from the boundary of the nearest residence
So ok, I am not fully versed with this whole NZ noise control nazis thing, being a natural born Brit...
I am putting on shows and jsut wondering about this noise control bylaw.. so please correct me / help me out in terms of how it works..
from what I understand:
you make a loud noise
someone complains
NCOs come check it out
they think it IS too loud
they say turn it down, wont leave till you do
if they recieve a second complaint or you refuse to turn it down
they fine you 10,000 (max) take you equipment and charge you for taking it and storing it..
if you resist this they call the cops?
any way to get a dispensation or waiver on noise limits?
would be keen for advice, stories of NCNs...
cheers
Bullshit..
Yeah R18 5+ shows are shit.. but thats because they start so late, not enough people turn up, bands fanny around with sound techs and end up with a mdeicore sound.. etc everything people have whinged about above
My 5+ AA gigs have gone great as I know have toher peoples.. Less bother about equipment, the simpler the better, Vocal ,Keys and kick drum only through the PA, amps levelled during 10 min sound check of each band, Majority of the gear on stage at once (these ar ein venues where the is SPACE).. have a mp3 player play music in the 5 min gaps between bands.. start at 7:30 so its all over by 11:15 ish people dont like one band.. they go hang in a corner with their mates or try hitting on equally awquard teenagers of the oppsite sex... bands enjoy because even htough they may have to wait.. the crowd give it back to you in response and cheers. Sets at 30 mins each with a local school band playing a 15 - 20 min set..
Jeez, bitching about nothing..
cough Scenesters cough olides cough
Yeah I am full on for the MOBILE Nz music stage.. like a stage on the back of a massive truck.. that way NZ artists can move to where the largest crowds are and play loudly at them until they are forced to listen...
On a more serious note, they should have a tent similar to the carling tent at the Reading festival, a tent that promotes up comings acts and bands tipped to be next years big thing.. not just homegrown talent but not yet famous talent worldwide.. for example The D4 and The Datsuns payed that stage years ago and then 2 years back the Datsuns rock the mainstage with a crowd numbering 200 000 odd.. all bands need a kick start, a helping hand etc... Agreed Big NZ nmes should be in with big rest of the world names, but apart from that I LIKE the idea of a smaller stage for up and coming names and indie acts (unfortunaltey I fear it will still be a stage dominated by Hippidy hopp music)
I think this announcement is cool... and slightly informative.. only slightly
but funny..
hey noizy.. wanna forward me the list.. I need to do more canvasing and harrasing for my all ages thing
its a pretty normal example of how large companies treat smaller locals ones when they are bought out.. it is frankly shit for fmr artists if it is true....
happens more and more nowadays
