The Gladeyes London Street Summer Tour December 2006
Winter in Dunedin is notorious. Some choose to hibernate, others choose to simply leave. The Gladeyes on the other hand are used to it and simply entered the studio asking their manager to lock the door behind them and open it when summer came round. At some stage they managed to get out for supplies and to make another music video, but that was an uncharacteristically warm day. Now that summer is here and Dunedin is marginally warmer The Gladeyes have emerged with a heavy dose of cabin fever and an urge to travel. As a short term remedy to this they will be covering New Zealand during December to promote the release of their second music video, handle the jandal finalist London Street.
The video was shot in one day by LA Based director Jared Seltzer in Anthony's bedroom. The cat's name is Ozzy and the dog's name is Biddy. They were both paid in food. So was Anthony.
The video was selected from 93 other videos to be in the 2006 Radio Active Handle the Jandal finals, along with 14 other entrants. Unfortunately it didn't receive any awards, but the goody bags alone were worth it.
This tour will also include new material from the debut album, You Can Listen Too, which is due out in February 2007. The album is currently being mastered in the US and will be available in New Zealand through Borderline Recordings. With plans to head to the US and ex-patriot David Benge booking shows in Australia, a more long term solution to the cabin-fever-travel-bug shouldn't be too far away.
"What do you mean the liquor is free when you fly international?" - Chris Keogh, guitarist, on his first international flight to Australia in 2005 preceding The Gladeyes first Australian tour.
"Did you say the liquor is free when you fly international?" - Logan Valentine, guitarist, on his first international flight to Australia in 2005 preceding The Gladeyes first Australian tour.
"Who cares whether it's free or not?" - Anthony Lander, bassist, already drunk, preceding The Gladeyes first Australian tour.
"Boys, the liquor is free when you fly international" - Stu Harwood, Drummer, preceding The Gladeyes first Australian tour.
"Please play our video" - Rebecca Daniel, manager.

haha! Our video clip for What To Do? is debuting in Australia tonight between 2:00 and 2:30am on Rage! Also some of our tracks have been playlisted on SYN 90.7 Fm in melbourne fm. Oh and we are featuring in the Beat Street mag next week...Can't wait to go there..and in nz next week you can read an interview with us in the grooveguide and craccum plus see us play if you live in the main centres..
Hey all. Does anybody know of any good radio stations in Melbourne that might be receptive to an independent NZ band's music? Wish they had a b-net....
The way I see it a support band is there to support regardless of the headlining acts popularity. When an unknown band plays support for a big band they have to realise it's not going to be an ideal gig but definately worth doing. It looks good on the band cv plus any chance to play can only be good for an unsigned/unknown band. I've played with support bands with some serious attitude problems and it just makes putting on a good show that much harder. Ultimately the audience loses out. If you're serious about doing music you need to approach it with a professional and realisitic attitude. That's my rant.
Dude. That was really interesting but didn't make a lot of sense. Were you drunk? Was the mudhoney gig good or bad?
Just to ram it home one more time...
Sat 23rd July (tomorrow) at Refuel in Dunedin - final video release show. $5 or $4 with your Onecard, first 20 onecard holders recieve a limited edition promo cd with new tracks and the video on it.
New tour dates for NZ and Australia coming very soon. The video will be on our website very soon too.
and by "at the dux with the heavy jones trio" I mean "at Arc Cafe in Dunedin with the heavy jones trio". Ahem.
This Saturday (the 23rd of July) we are playing our final show of our video release tour at Refuel with The Tomahawks and The Sweet Unknowns. It will be fun plus if you are lucky you might be able to get a cd with the video on it and some new tracks from the upcoming album.
We are playing some shows in august, one on the 6th at Arc, the 20th at the Dux in Queenstown and the 26th at the Dux with the Heavy Jones trio. Australasian tour dates soon to come for october and another video.
Wicked. We have one in Dunedin which sounds really similar. Many a cheap drunken Thursday night. Have to try and check it out next time I'm in welly
Whatever. You guys are reading and posting. You don't need to read it if you don't agree with it, it's that simple. Let the moderators deal with spam as they see it.
But I do agree that this thread has gotten a little bit excessive. 28 EP's sounds a little fantastic to me, having toured New Zealand twice promoting my own I know how hard it can be to sell anything as an independent artist with no national hype etc. It's still kind of entertainning though.
// Watch out Tane, cause i'm begining to not want to see Autumn Stone because of the collosal //amount of spam you're littering on the forums.
That's stupid. Autumn Stone are a damn good band live. That's kind of like saying you won't go see Shihad because they're all over C4, radio and their posters are everywhere. If I had a manager who works as hard as Tane I'd be stoked.
Hey y'all. Looks like we're going to play with you guys again on the 15th! Looking forward to seeing you all again.
Hey thanks smile! We are playing at refuel on the Saturday the 23rd of July if you're keen. It will be a good show - the last show of our video release tour - with The Tomohawks and The Sweet Unknowns (both very good bands). Our video for what to do was on homegrown late last night in the unsigned section. It will be on coke hits and juice soon too, plus it should be on channel 9 cow TV on wednesday the 20th of July.
Hey Mockasins, big ups - it's Chris from The Gladeyes. When you next come to Dunedin give me a yell (christopher.keogh@gmail.com) if you need a band to play with. Oh, and thanks Connan for coming to our show in wellington the other week. Got your EP and it's all good.
Definately. I see you might be playing the bowler? If they give you a retainer it'll be sweet. We played there once opening for Stylus last year and had a wciked night. It was a different audience for us but they got really into it. Good luck! BTW> Just listened to payload on the website and it sounded wicked!
Hey Tane, thanks for all your help and thanks to autumn stone and dangerpin. We were actually pretty happy with the turnout (about 80 through the door including the door list which is good for us). In Christchurch we had less than that but also had a real good show. Definately keep in touch!
It's been bought and will reopen in approx two weeks.
