Hi Neens, glad you're still following 1QA's adventures in the wonderful land of OZ. Just spoke to the boys on the phone as they were motoring back into Melbourne. They said the Adelaide show was a ripper last nite and will try to get back soon to play you a tune or five. No luck in the WBOTB final in Sydney but from what they implied, luck (or talent) didn't have a great deal to do with it...but hey, shit happens in showbiz just like evetywhere else. I told them you wrere hanging out for some of the new songs to go up the band website - they're doing some re-mixing and then they'll drop a few on for you.
cheers and stay safe
these guys got huge wraps from the Qmen (see earlier posts) after adding a sensational slice of Irish original, mint flavoured guitar based pychosis to the recent Degrees K / 1QA show in the big M. Happy's the hot ticket tomorrow night ( note change in support from above lineup)
hey there,
The Coldspoon Conspiracy (from Dublin, Ireland) play at Happy in Wellington next Friday 23rd September.
also playing are Yokel Ono and Good Laika.
if you're in Welli, head along!
thanks
// I've always said that second place in the RQ is the best place to be //
1QA - second to Carriage H (D!D!D!) in 2001

//Fucken, r18 boodega// ...know you know this already man cos you'll be there, bringing home the big one for Jacksonville won't you, but for those QA lovers of a similarly tender age who haven't cottened on yet (or are 2 tired to hit the 'live' tab on www.1qaband.com) see confirmation of guest appearance @ RQ Nat Fnl this Sat nite by those only slightly older young men of new music pasted from same. My next sentence will be shorter. see!
1QA (very) Live

oops, butterfingers...Hi dgs.K, Happy show tonite was outstanding, new songs rork, you guys land it. Best for the rest
Hi K; degrs.K Mk 3 highly roadworthy, despite 'no railings' or because of. Happy Show tonite was, outstanding, best for the rest
hi Stephan..
brill 2 the max neens, mucho gracias for the trans tasman heads up ( CER = closer erogenous rock 'n roll) will inform the (adopted) emigrant sons in VIC - according to the latest news post on www.1QA.com they are having an enforced break from live shows owing to" an unforseen drinking accident."
Rumour suggests victim was integral part of rhythm section who injured upper limb. This is on a par commensurate with Picasso getting Parkinsons or Rupert Murdoch losing his pocket calculator - serious. not funny at all. But AY won't be awol for long. Bless his day of pure resilience. love you jjj
Kia ora neens, how's sunny Adelaide? fcuking feezing in Jacksonville Aotearoa. It could be a longish short list, as NZ music is on its biggest roll ever. Lotsa reasons, including growing awareness that the best of our bands are highly original and world class, current government support for the 'arts'as valid export segment / nation-building factor blah blah. A radio station Channel Z switched format to 100% kiwi music last year which may prove to be a (musical) bridge too far as it barely showed a pulse in its first ratings survey. I can relate somewhat as I want to hear Josh Homme as well as Jon Toogood..Mind you the upside is you also get to miss Puddle of Mudd and Creed.
Anyway here goes, heavily biased to my personal taste but hey. (websites are usually bandname.com or .co.nz) Am assuming you know about great bands /artists that already have a strong Australian profile such as Shihad, Scribe, Mint Chicks, Betchadupa, Evermore, feelers, Blindspott?
I am also assuming you want (loud) guitars with that order Miss?....
DegreesK - great songs and deranged arrangements that make perfect landings, currently rebuilding as a three-piece, played Melbourne last weekend.
The Fanatics - limited lyrics but hooky as hell - just two guys, but come on like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on PCP
Die Die Die - "caustic punk rock" is their own current description of choice, playing Melbourne this month
The Checks - very old souls in very young bodies, the blues is still news, have just scored an NME up and comers showcase tour of the UK
and then there's the pure pop / rock for now people...
Pluto - don't barkat all, tres elegant addictive pop-rock, new album Pipeline Under the Ocean, key tracks Dance Stamina and Radio Crimes
Opshop - big personal favourite, brill songs and singer with pipes to die for
Goldenhorse - huge in NZ, just kicking in in oz, and your mum will love them too
Dimmer - slippery when wet which is all the time, solo vehicle for former Straitjacket Fits main man Shane Carter. Insiduous, sensual, dancefloor grooves that also rock the house
If you also like the brothers dub and the liquorice all-sorts you should check out the truly magnificent Fat Freddys Drop, Trinity Roots (gone to heaven but rising soon) Salmonella Dub, the Black Seeds, SJD, and the Phoenix Foundation
hope you like some of that, catch you next time
settle...but your right, they should change that link on this site, hasn't fired for two years and pisses people off from time.
However HCTRR is now a five year old song that the band very rarely play live, (as insiders would know) it was actually a tongue in cheek dig at the r&r / garage revival thing building at the time, but was such a shit hot song in its own right that it became a fan favourite, and probably still is. Was on lots of early demos etc and only survives in much reduced form as a 'secret' (oops) trk on 1QA, the debut 8 trk cd released in Jan in NZ. Get it from Real Groovy for 19 bucks in NZ or www.hellsbassment.com inOz. Details @ www.1qaband.com
// Why do you guys reckon Kiwi bands still move abroad? //
because it's there
glad you enjoyed the shows neen, sure they'll be back before long to sunny Adelaide, got a pm saying they really like the city (and citizens!) nine hours on the road back yesterday and playing near the top of the bill tonight @ the multi-band Anzac Anarchy Show at the Espy...
cheers again neens, have dropped the word to Robbie at Jx3 http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/
Hope you enjoy the Adelaide gigs this weekend. www.dbmagazine.com.au have done a nice promo for the shows in the news section of this weeks issue, so appreciate your wordup on that too
shit your'e fast out of the blocks!., both just out I presume? saw the Package one today, willget the NZMusican tomorrow for sure. Among other things, Simon (Sweetman) says: .."the1QA sound is an intimidating yet accessible amalgamation of punk's energy, metal's raw-nerve feel and indie-rock's diversionary tactics.....this album is full of dramatic impact: there is sonic exploration in every track but the compositions are lean, mean and fighting fit, stripped of any over-indulgence,1QA are an exciting, original rock band"
exactly
rock the casbah indeed fellers! and Adelaide this weekend and Sydney next month with DegreesK..
www.fasterlouder.com.au has quite good forum, reviews etc..
www.melband.com.au multiple forumsbit train-spotter and navel gazey but hey, better than mass murder...
www.mp3.com.au downloads to africa etc
www.beat.com.au the leading Melburn music mag on line version, includes forum
bloody spectacular, just saw it on c4..you boys have got the ju with this one bigtime..congrats to all, love alive too, postcard from the edge, welcome home, again, must have been all that central north island air and solitude, and remembering that the nz rock crown is yours until you decide to put it down, don't be in any hurry
Hi GP, hope the double happy weekend is a cracker, great concept....'like a a one-trick pony with two tickets to ride, what will we find?' BTSL is simply brilliant, congratulations.
