Me and my best friend were sitting in a bar, im not going to name, with a group of people we knew through mutual friends. This bar is quite a "classy" joint, the sort of bar where you can have a tab and the waiter/waitress will bring the drinks to you, you dont have to leave your table. I dont usually hang out in these places - too expensive for me. But tonight the drinks were being bought for us. The first and only drink I had was a vodka and cranberry. An hour later I was smashed and unable to control myself. It was horrible. I have never felt so confused. I didnt know why I could hardly move. My best friend took me home. If she hadnt been there I dont know what would have happened. My only explanation for that was that my drink had been spiked. I only ever order straight from the bar now, and I never let my drink leave my hand.
Jokes are great, I love jokes, I pride myself on my sense of humour. But I can tell the difference between a joke and a bitter remark. I think some people just need to GROW UP, GET A LIFE, AND STOP CRITISIZING OTHER PEOPLE ON THE WAY THEY LIVE THEIRS.
But yeah, The Mars Volta rule!
Degrees K rule! Look for them back in NZ real soon!! Although rumour has it that they used to be a Christian reggae band that would dress up as disney characters - but as I said, its a "rumour" heh heh
The Mint Chicks are awesome! One of the most exciting new bands i have ever watched!!
You'll definitely be seeing them in Wellington within the next couple of months hopefully!
Sorry..yeah the info was a little unclear...
The Thursday show is with TLBT and the Blunts and The Mint Chicks at the Ambassador
The Friday show is at Paradise Bar with TLBT, Slavetrader, and The Scabs.
Sorry bout that...
: )
There just isn't the population in NZ to be able to make a decent buck off being a musician. selling cd's isn't an automatic check straight into ones fat nzmusician bank account. there are so many costs involved in producing and selling an album. theres promotion, advertising, prinitng, pressing, photography, paying a designer to design the album cover and sleeve...........it's not exactly a lucrative business. The most money a musician could possibly make is by gaining a record deal, whereby the artist has to pay back every cent of the advance the company gives them, or a publishing deal .....which I might add, most "successful" bands do. This is what enables an artists songs to be played on movie soundtracks, shortland street, and the ever sinful television commercial. It's not whoring yourself out to the highest corporate bidder, it's trying to cover your costs by using your profession and ability to write songs to make some money. Selling cd's isn't the only credible way a musician can make money. Like noizyboy said //
* live performances
* radio royalties
* film/tv music (not ads)
//I would rather be working a shitty day job and playing to a few people on the weekend than being in that Telecom ad with any of those other "artists".//
To many of those artists being a musician is their "shitty day job". By choosing to be a musician as your full time job/career, you have to put every waking minute into, which I know is what these people do. Theres no time for a day job. The second you get a day job is the second you become a hobby musician. These people have made music their full time career, which is a difficult choice to make when there aint alot of moneycoming in. They put a lot of hard work and time into what they do, and it shows in the music they produce, the gigs they put on all over the country, and the promotion they put into themselves and their music.
Maybe if you had any fucken idea how much hardwork these people put into being successful musicians in New Zealand and abroad then you wouldnt be so quick to label them sellouts.
And I'm not trying to cover my own ass here for the glorious day when //TLBT will make the next Telecom cut// I'm merely trying to stand up for these musicians because I dont think there was anything wrong with what they have done.
I cant believe all this bullshit over one ad.
These people are entertainers.
I like the add.
I didnt hear anyone bitching about Nesian Mystic on that Coca-Cola commercial.
Yes! We are coming to the garden city Friday 30th May I think. It will be good fun, we look forward to meeting all you lovely christchurch folk!!!

it's cool seeing people at your shows that enjoy what you're doing and look like they are having a good time. I like seeing people smiling and having a good time.
Shit I feel like a right royal pratt of a friend now don't I! I remember young BeeBaa teaching me Purple Haze, all those years ago, and then Blackbird by the Beatles. I hope it doesn't just take the winning of a ticket to revive said friendship!
PS: I came round to your humble abode tonight and you were not home, so there! hehe
Pip : )
I have the whiteness as well, but only on my shitty computer, it uses Win 98 and Internet Explorer 5, and is a piece of shit, thats what I put the whiteness down to, coz when I use my new puter its fine, and this one uses WinXP IE5 i think.
I am enjoying the new site format though, you fullaz work hard and it is appreciated.
no worries, anytime! I just would have hoped you guys had as good a time as what I did. Whether it was the music, the people, or the drinks Teina kept putting in my hands, whatever it was, I felt pretty darn happy to be alive! :D
oh yeah - and with regards to the whole name thing, it could have been called "lick my filthy ring piece you scummy wellington rock bands" with a picture of a big robot bending over - and I still would have had just as good a time. It was a bloody good night. Oh yeah and if my horrid language means that this post has to be edited away, maybe change the whole "lick my filthy ring piece" bit to: "flick my fluffy car dice".
hey Its pip here. Man its been a hell of a long time since I've posted on here!! I thought it was about time I did! Um I have been living in Melbourne for nearly eight months now. I fly between sydney and melbourne at least twice a month, sometimes Adelaide, all for music. Im playing in two bands, one in Sydney and one in Melbourne. I have been planning on sending Teina and Dust more details when I get them available to me. But stuff is going really awesome for me, Im having an exciting time over here and I will be back in Wellington for a week in October and hopefully there will be a Fantastical Blink Band reunion show!
