Nah, not really I just grew up.
New Zealand has so many good bands they I rate highly and in my person favs of all time like HDU, Letterbox Lambs a lot of the Flying Nun back catalogue etc…
But now I'm very rarely seeing bands that I can see that (on pure talent alone) do well overseas, but at least I’m seeing/hearing some.
Generally NZ music that’s popular now tends to be what was popular X amount of years ago in the rest of the world (with acceptations) or a NZ version of an international that will only ever do well here. At least the D4 have, and probably will achieve more international than most other NZ bands, and it was a bit more than just good timing.

But there is a difference between saying hey they weren't good live and the fucking sucked (insert more unnecessary fucks and shits here) while just abusing the band with out backing it up with facts in a proper argument. I think that feedback is always a good thing for a band, whether it’s good or bad.
More and more the mint chicks will get slammed by the more popular the get and then the next cool underground thing that comes along the same thing will happen. Which has happened to both the D4 and the Datsuns, which could also be that their new album wasn’t the old one.
Maybe it’s not so much a tall poppy thing but an elitist thing. I don't know, that’s just my opinion.

the EPs aren't bad but buddy maybe if you played your songs 20-30bpm slower i (and other) could find it a bit more palletable.
