i just wanted to add that from a friend who was up for an award a couple of years back that part of the criteria for this award is album sales...
sally dub definitely would have outsold concord dawn by a longshot, so more points for them on that one...
i think its funny no one has mentioned shapeshifter? and why didn't they kick ass over sally dub and concord dawn for the most innovative and listenable album of all 3
also: someone told me that the dub had pulled out of this award because they consider themselves to be a 'live' band, making recordings, not an electronic band doing electronic releases - the tuis have messed this one before and continue to fail to recognise the difference between bands like the dub, and groups like say pitch black. and funny that they gave the award to a band that didn't even want it - laugh
the tuis really do suck, i vote that there also be an awards called 'The Real New Zealand Music Awards' sponsored by Monteiths or something... any ideas?

Hi all, just a wee note on the brain processing sound - The Nyquist theory goes something like if you have twice the number of samples per second as the brain (supposedly) processes you have a quality sound
Hence the 44.1 khz sampling rate on cds is twice the rate that the brain processes sound (22khz) and is definitely a quality sound
New sampling rates have gone up really high, but hopefulle 96 khz will be common place sometime soon with a new standard for CD's at home styles
Also a note about analogue vs digital - go and see Shapeshifter live and check out the sound of the MS-20 an analogue Korg synth from back in the day - it may be heard to tell the difference on recordings these days but live there is nothing like true analog gear - that synth is responsble for the most earth shaking bass I have ever heard, fatness from beyond and warm as
Pumpkinhead were one of NZ's best live bands in my opinion, they truly rocked warners, blowing big balls of fire over the crowd, very catchy and awesome sound. They imploded or exploded or something, and so the rumours go it was rock and roll and drugs that played a part in it all. Much respect to the Pumpkinheaders! My fav track - Home
