*A Shameless Rant*
Things that piss me off:
US Media. I am SO SICK of hearing every little piece of life being related back to September Freaking 11th!
I am not exaggerating when I say I have seen news stories that say, "More people are going to see these fantasy movies now, possibly because of what happend on Sept. 11th"
or another one that said "...and the struggles to keep parents from being a disruption at their childrens sports events are well founded. However, in light of Sept. 11th parents have been less agressive at sports events..."
I AM SO SICK OF IT!
I'm sorry but the colour of my new shoes is not due to the fact that many people died in New York City. I know it was a tragedy to say the least, and I'm not trying to seem insensitive, BUT STOP DROWNING ME IN GARBAGE news stories, and lame assumptions.
My friend just got back from home in England and she said she didn't see much of any news about the "War on Terrorism" in her 3 week visit.
I am really getting annoyed with the US media's preoccupation with "America's New War". God. They are even giving it a marketable name.
This movie "Black Hawk Down" is having these adverts selling an American gulf-war story as this great triumph. Capitalizing wonderfully on the current American "We are at war" mindset.
I'm disgusted. Boo for American television.

PS- OH YEAH, these are all a part of the American machine that I don't want to see SHIHAD assimilated into!
*this is not an anti-american post, it is anti-american media. Just clearing that up before somebody ignorantly accuses an anti-american sentiment. I don't want to get sued or have a war declared on me.
Haha. In reply to Jane (and I'm still contemplating if that was a negative or positve "HECK"), nope. I've never even been to NZ! :o( I know, it's sad!
Somebody pay for me to come! I can make it worth your while (*wink wink*)
Oh yes and....
I'm sure marketing and other such things will be handled much differently in the States than it would be in NZ and AUS, so what's the problem with having a different name in the two places as well? Just an afterthought.. :o)

SERIOUS CONSIDERATION - feedback
I hope the guys are reading everyones thoughts about this, ultimately they should do what 'they want' for the band, however should the name change be totally unavoidable I am in 100% agreement that they only change it over here in North America.
1) I hope SHIHAD seriously looks at the example of the Charltans being known as the Charltans UK over here among others that have an alternate name for NA. For example all BUSH cd's are labeled BUSHx here in Canada because of some little band that already registered the name here. No problems, just adjusting some text in both cases.
2) All of the hard work to promote SHIHAD up until this point (and I'm sure there has been lots) would be virtually lost. As well as many established fans and listeners being alienated by a name change and possibly confused.
(EG. "Who is this band? It sounds like SHIHAD" and being met with a "It is SHIHAD but they aren't called that anymore..." followed immediately by a perplexed "Whaaaa????")
Less informed people may not even buy the new album because they don't know who the band is, in extreme cases of course because all of us hardcore SHIHAD fans WILL be following this situation closely!
CONCLUSION
The band would like to keep SHIHAD.
The USA would like a smarter public that can accept that.
The American public likely won't react warmly to the name SHIHAD. (only because the media will make a big deal about it and get everyone worked up over nothing)
Whenever there are two opposing sides, a compromise is the best solution, no? Why give in totally when you could make everyone happy (theoretically). Everyone being the US and the Rest of the world including the band.
I say if you're gonna succumb to the U.S., just let them think you have, and keep the SHIHAD name back home. Then if they (Americans) find out about the name, they will likely say an effective "Awww, wow they were sensitive enough to change their name for us even though they already had an established one..."
And that's the end of my petition to save the name and preserve something great... take it easy all. Good luck with the decision SHIHAD!

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Shihad is such a good name though!!! AHH MAN!! DAMN IT! I hate the narrow-minded, psychotic, deadly, judgemental, fat headed, band name changing, misinterpreting, money flaunting American industry!
I'm seriously heart broken about this!!!
But on a lighter note, The Killjoys were a KICK ASS Canadian band that sadly broke up in '99 :o( Check out some of their tunes! (ie. "Today I hate Everyone" or "Rave and Drool")
BUT MOST OF ALL for the guys in Shihad, I truely sympathize with your situation. Best of luck with what's to come! There's lots of fans to back up the decisions you guys have to make! WOOT! WOOT! SHIHAD!
awww, yeah well of course then! Just say bank card! (EFTPOS seems a bit awkward as an acronym for my funky Canadian jaw to juggle!!!)
Also, they have direct payment everywhere now though, so I don't see what that has to do with Canada and NZ?
OH! The hockey game is on at 8am for you Kiwi blokes! :o(
If you're actually up, AND you have sky, watch it, and ROOT FOR THE GOOD GUYS!!
PS- the good guys are Canada!
(come on! I'd cheer for you! I did during the Tri-Nations! Woot woot! All Blacks! booo Aussie!)
Captain Paul!!!!
I would personally LOVE to know if Rubicon is ever coming to Canada and if so when?
Come on! I'll pitch in for the airfare!!
Woot woot!
*note: the term 'airfare' refers to ticket price for the Rubicon show(s) I would be attending and does not actually mean I would pay for airline travel. That would be rediculous. Not to mention the shattering affect on my bank account!!*
So yeah, when did you say you were coming? You guys can stay in my basement! (I'm hearing basements aren't so popular over in NZ. Pity because you could all have some good Canadian bands come and stay with you!)
Johnny C :o)
OOPS!
here's the proper address!!! Everyone watch the game and root for us Canucks! (it'll probably be late at night for you kiwis though!)
Cheers!
DUDES!!!!
This forum is about me and stuff!!! (kinda!?) And What the hell is EFTPOS?
Also, Rawk on NZ music and GO CANADA!!! Our boys are playing Russia in the gold-medal Hockey Game at the world juniors on Friday!!!

Lates rubicon lovers! Muzzy.... wink wink.
Hey Peaches_head....
You speak of MSN and the like, yet supply no e-mail address.
What a tease you are!
Yeah, I don't know alot about girl Repellent, but my friend Theo saw them live... and what else... hmmmmmm. THE ATARIS are awesome too!
I think MUZZY ROX more than you do JANE! Especially since you haven't emailed me yet! :P
GO RUBICON!!!
Yo Muzzy!!!! Treble Charger have been around forever! Like I'm not sure, maybe ten years? One of my fav old songs of theirs is called "RED". Makes me sad but I like it. It's from the album "NC-17".... they played at my high school a few years ago it was so cool.
And Jane!!?? I've gotten no email from you! I'm hurt!
and uhmm.. Rubicon something something... rock on.
"Primadonna self absorbed, wide awake and never bored, party binge and purgery, results in plastic surgery, spotted at the hottest shows, interview on Johnny Rose, they all want a piece of youuuuuuu"
Uhmmm yeah! They have a lot! They're older stuff is more alternative, garage bandy type stuff. But here are two other good songs off the newest CD- "Brand New Low" and "Business".
hehe, have you ever seen the show Undergrads??? I love it! GO GC!
Yeah, all of the GC songs on the 'Not Another Teen Movie' soundtrack are covers... they're good but I wanna hear their own new stuff!!!! *sobs*
Let me know what you think of Treble Charger.... (wink) I just got the song.... love it!
"I'm fallin'........, I'm fallin'.........., I'm fallin down'....."
Hey Muzzy! Have you heard of Treble Charger? They had a song in Dude where's my Car, called American Psycho.
I think you'd really like it! They're a Canadian band anyhoo... so ya probably wouldn't know them from anything else. But you really should get that song!!!!
"So come and talk to me. On my computer screen. The best years of our lives aren't a easy as they seem..."
Yeah, Muzzy's really smart like that! :o)
"So come and talk to me, on my computer screen, the best years of our lives, aren't as easy as they seem"
I *heart* Muzzy!!! hehe
yea, GC is doin the soundtrack fer Not Another Teen Movie!!! I'll be damned if I can find some preview stuff of it anywhere!!!
Oh no I almost forgot!!!!! I've had this song in my head all day and I didn't even write it!!
*six dollars in your pocket, and ones a secret stash.... three's for alcohol and two's for cigarettes.. alrigghhhheeeeeeet* -end bit on live version of Complicated!
Ok Dust,
I agree with you totally 100% that downloading SHOULD be illegal, and in essence it is. But what is the punishment for owning an illegal song? If something is illegal yet holds virtually no punishment, it kind of makes the law futile no?
Making a mixtape for your car is just as illegal, but I don't feel guilty about that and I don't really think I should. I also refuse to feel guilty about using my computer as a way of testing out music. I buy just as many if not more CD's because of it....
ON THE FLIPSIDE....
I know people abuse the technology and download entire albums, and that is wrong (unless you already own them of course). If these people are so cheap, I wonder if they would've even bought the CDs if they couldn't DL them?
Ok, so we've established good (in my opinion) and bad qualities of downloading music, but believe it or not there are also good things about MP3s. For example Dust, am I to assume that you are in a band from your latest closing comment? If so I'd like to hear somethin of yours! And yet more good things about MP3s....
Go to the URL below and download the song by GOLDFINGER, MEST, and GOOD CHARLOTTE. It is about the Sept. 11th attacks and all of the proceeds from the downloads are being donated.
Rock on Dusty my boy.... rock on.

Hey Muzz!!! I LOVE THE "Hwooahh" in that version of Click!!! Hahaha.... I was so disappointed when I bought the CD just because they don't do the Hwooah!!! I guess it's only on the live version that everyone has downloaded! Good ol' MP3s....
I wish I had recorded the concert!!! I wanna hear the loser anthem again! What's the story of my life??? I haven't heard it!!! :(
Whats a good song by rubicon besides the captain? I don't know any of their stuff!!
Hells yeah they played it!! I think they said it was called "just another loser anthem" or something... oh and they did Change and the secret song live too!!! They were really good!! Wow. I think they are the best live band in everness!!! And they also changed the title of WaldorfWorldwide to "BuffaloWorldWide", but I think they do that in every city so I wasn't too impressed by that.. hehe. I thought it was funny that they said it was a diff title for the fans, but the words were all the same...
OOOhhhh and They came out with Mest and the other band and they played "The Innocent"!!! Ok ok, I think I'm rambling...
AND yes, ohh yes Muzzy, you are my new favourite person! Yay!
*To get the girl and make the grade, its all a show,
it’s all a game, and I would lose it if I played… its all the same * -the click
Seriously, I think the shock of September 11th has passed by now and that keeping the name Shihad would be inconsequential.
So after all of this fuss, it won't even matter anyway. All the time spent making the decision and producing the album has allowed for the situation to (ahem, cough) pacify itself.
