i'm a little worried about that turning-the-sound-down thing. i sure hope duane can hear me!
as the end of NZ music month nears...i'm getting fed up with those giant green posters covering up local gig posters. supporting the local scene - REALLY?
t rex! def leppard! suzi quatro! poison! the sweet! slade! warrant! queen! sabbath! bryan adams! heart! the kinks! the buzzcocks! the slits!
my pick would have to be... beth dawson on vocals and keyboard bass. brian crook and mick elborado on guitars, the drummer from fake purr, and iso12 on korg.
i'm looking forward to seeing simon comber, hes a fantastic songwriter. the international telepaths are going on at 1:30am. and we're playing with die! die! die! the same night at the crown. ARGGGGH! guess that means i'll be missing onanon. :-(
i have no problem with "appetite for destruction" being on that list
" There is a shortage of female singer songwirters that are any good, and personally I think it's because girls aren't as into it, not less capable."
WRONG. there are heaps of girls doing just that, you don't know where to look!
actually i forgot the ladies from dick the phone and the hundred dollar band in dunners, and lyttelton lisa of the tryhards.
also why is there all this hate for manufactured pop? the spice girls, britney and p!nk are all FINE with me.
i think this question is weird. it sort of turns female bands or female-dominated bands into a genre, which they AREN'T. women play in lots of different genres. surely girl bands can't be judged as a whole! surely they can only be judged individually.
that said, i really enjoy playing in bands with other women, theres nothing like it. in dunedin, theres a lot of good music going on featuring strong women... the futurians, the shutups, the international telepaths, persephone, pamela poppins, rainy mcmaster, S.T.U.D. shoutouts also to idols of eve, a mixed-gender band from christchurch, who feature the talented di mackay.
lena o on this thread is rocking my world. too many sexist blokes on here, and she is totally cuttin' em down. ROCK ON.
"Female artists, is it just me or did most of them sing about ex's and their poor broken hearts. Paleeese girls, surely we can think of more to sing about than just that...at one stage of the evening a friend of mine even turned to me and said "oh no, it's another 'anger, you broke my heart, i hate you, should i kill myself' song again""
i sang about jumping in my car and running away, trying to seduce a girl, and how great my friends andrew and elisabeth are.
