:( i am really saddened at this shocking news. john peel was an amazing dj who had a fantastic influence over the course of music over the past 40 years or so. rip john.
i too am thinking of getting a new guitar and am not sure what to buy. i have been thinking of just getting a fender strat as i know that i like them but i would like something that looked and sounded a bit more unique. my mate has a mint coloured ibanez talman and i played it the other day and came to the conclusion that it looks amazing and sounds great. the only trouble is that he said that they have stopped making them now. does anyone have any recommendations for kinda grungy looking guitars along the lines of the talman?
oh yeah, does anyone know of any really promising bands from your areas to look out for next year? i dont know in chch right now, i mean, most of the best ones are getting too old. eg. hype! starlett, 5th element, pursegun
yeah, point is that most of you people who go on about how shit the rockquest is are people who are sour about not winning it yourselves. yeah, your band might be the best thrash metal band in the world but you have to remember that your thrash metal band isnt going to sell anywhere near the amount of records as some dick's pop punk band. yeah, i entered this year too, and when we didnt make it any further than the chch regional finals i felt a bit pissed off, but i know now that the bands that did get through were tighter, more complicated and probably had better songs. this has only given me an incentive to work harder at our songs, not change them, just make them more polished. the experience of playing at the town hall was amazing and i cant wait till next year.
well there goes another rockquest. whos entering next year? and does anyone have any predictions for who to look out for from their area next year?
i think oasis were the best band of the mid nineties, and one of the best bands of all time. why shouldnt they be proud of their songs? they have written so many classic songs. i think their attitude towards noel ripping people off is a good one, every decent melody and guitar part that isnt all arty bullshit has been done before anyway, most songs over the past 10 years have been the artists own interpretation of someone elses song, and if they dont even realise that they have ripped someone off then how can you blame them for that?
hey, does anyone know of anywhere that i would be able to find out sales figures for new zealand artists' releases overseas? it is for a speech for my ncea you see. any help would be greatly appreciated.
oh well, to anyone that went it was one hell of a rockin night. thanks for coming if you did.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! another rock n roll tradgedy. it is just terrible. RIP joey and dee dee.
new zealanders are making some fantastic programs at the moment. eating media lunch has got to be one of the funniest programs ever, as with havoc presents quility time and pulp sport. classic tv. anyone agree?
then there are the people who cant afford anywhere other than next to an airport/motorway or other cause of disturbance. i dont understand however why people would be naive enough to buy a house in the country or city center and expect it to be easy living without noise or discomfort. i mean, what can you possibly expect?
the hives' new album should be great. their original was a modern classic
any managers/promoters/a&r people out there who want to find something new with commercial potential but totally original? huh? do ya? well drop me a line.

i hate to break everyones bubble but the fact is that young people drinking excessively is nothing unique to nz. it is happening pretty much everywhere in the western world and is the bane of cops universally. it is nothing new either. young people using lots of alcohol has been happening for generations just like smoking, swearing, dressing the same etc. how cool can a person be if they are doing the same things as their parents?
hi, if you are wanting to hear some great music in chch on friday that youve never heard before then head on down to zebedees (479 blenheim rd) for a show by the insurgents and hype. its $5 entry but itl be worth it. thanks. rock on
