hi there,
I am pleased to be able to officially announce that "Mathematical Warfare" is to be released on Flying Nun, through FMR, on the 28th of February, 2005. It contains 18 new tracks. "Emily", from the album, has a video that is currently being shown on C4's "Intellectual Property". We will also be touring the main centres soon, but there are no dates as yet. Meanwhile, if you are near Christchurch, you can catch the "live" shocking pinks experience next thursday (Dec 16th) with Gerling , The Leper Ballet and The Undercurrents at The Jetset Lounge as part of A LO HUM's Christmas Tour. 2005 will see wider distribution and promotion for The Shocking Pinks within, AND out side of, Australasia. It's gonna' be fun. Hope to catch up with you at some gigs...
you are right, i don't NEED to explain myself, but when you read (which I shouldn't do in the first place, but it is very tempting!) all of these opinions of you and your music (which to me are the same thing), written by people you do not know, you (I) get a bit defensive... sorry, i'll shut up (for good)
Sometimes when you record stuff that is "personal" to you, you feel differently towards it later on. That is the case with "Dance...". I am just really excited about the new album, and cannot wait to get it out there. It is way more consistent. I don't MIND the 1st album, but parts of it DO make me at least blush a little...
Thanks heaps Foaf. Man, I don't know where all this negative feedback is coming from ? It saddens me, because I only play music because it is my only way to "communicate" properly. I don't know why Simon (Rusty-James) has such a chip on his shoulder. I have never been rude and have always really respected him. He a fucking beautiful drummer. The band changing lie-ups so much is that we become such great personal friends that we feel the music will get in th eway. The new album is totally solo to avoid any confusion... Sorry if Iever upset you Simon, I promise I never meant to.
X
Nick Harte
It's lovely to see people I thought were my friends saying such kind and TRUE things about me here. Oh well, if anyone cares I am currently assembling a kick-ass five-piece line-up for touring etc. We need: a drummer, a guitarist, a synth-player and a bassist. We are based in Christchurch. So, if you know anyone intersted in being a Shocking Pink then please send me a message at: theshockingpinks@hotmail.com
miserablism refers only to the lyrics, which I have been personally told ARE miserable by people like my mother who i trust more than some geek who spends half of their life sitting at a computer about which era of A Certain Ratio we are talking about. i am sorry i ever became invovled in this. i won't ever again. i consider this a "fan" page, so please, continue to fight over scraps - "fans"...
my name is nikolai harte. my project is titled "the shocking pinks". i have tried to set up a page here under that name, but can only assume that the people behind the curtain are either too busy or lazy to do anything about it. so here is a clarification, of sorts...
(obviously, this is MY bio. more info visit the attached website)
the shocking pinks began earlier in the year of 2003. i am a wrangler. i don't know what else to call myself. i write all (apart from one or two bass and guitar lines) of the music. i design clothes (you can see my new line at Quadrata - 175b high street christchurch). i write lyrics. i write. i read, or more appropriatley i research. i manage. i make films. i play musical instruments (vocals, drums, electronics, guitar, bass, viola, cello, violin, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, piano). i fall in love.

well hi there, i am back after saying never again. everybody changes a bit now, don't they? by the way the "dead man" thing was cute, especially knowing who wrote it. if someone is THAT obsessed they must be THE ultimate fan. anyway, i didn't come here to bitch about aimless shit (although i already have!), just letting some recent news get out there to anyone who may care. my new album "infinity land" is completely finished (after 9(!)versions) and is to be released on flying nun around september. dfa may have some involvement in the future as far as liscensing/production goes. MAYBE. the album took SO many mastering sessions to get right as mark (who engineered and played on two tracks) and i became too fussy in "perfecting" it. it is finally all done now and everyone who has heard it believes it to be the best (certainly most produced) SPs CD yet. i won't comment as i will get in trouble for it. it contains 14 tracks and kit lawrence (ex SP and current House of Dolls member/writer (who are amazing by the way!)) came initially from London as a Painter and i am VERY lucky for him him to be doing the sleeve design. it looks great and is pretty much done. definately the cover that goes alongside the SPs sound the best, i believe. we are playing a few shows soon. july 29th at disorientation in wellington with cassette. august 12th in chch with the great charlie ash! a dux-chch-gig with old friends Die!Die!Die! when they return from london town, and when doing an album release tour we will most likely play with house of dolls. i can't wait! our live line-up now is exactly as before but herbert is travelling across europe havin fun, so we now have nick-vox/drums, tom-bass, mark (yes, as in engineer. he knows the tracks SO well!)-synth w-delay and distortion, gareth-synth, percussion, vox. we can't wait to get this group out there but don't expect to see any guitar strings cause there ain't none! Mark somehow gets his antique synths to sound like the CD's guitar parts, with various effects. our set consists mainly of tracks from the next album and three or four from mathematical warfare. maybe even translation. victims sounds fucking INSANE live. please prepare your ear-drums! richard bell will probably be doing the video for "how am i not myself?" (originally "what to do?" but changed due to another nz band just releasing a song/vid w- that title, darn it!) and ed lust (local film heart-throb-genius-icon) will probably be doing the video for "end of the world". thankyou for reading this far. love nick
