Fraid to say its all over for the Hammers, I think the writing was on the wall when they signed the two Argies. They must have been thinking to themselves "hmm hope I get to go somewhere sunny like Barcelona or South of France" but no - they end up on the Central Line tube heading towards Bethnal Green with flak jacket and flick knife in hand......

I want to talk about how one player ie Craig Bellamy can make oodles of £ while being a complete plonker? Why do clubs want this player when he has a history of off field dramas, hasn't won any medals, and is not a consistent scorer for any of the clubs he has played for?
Another example of the Premiership (and other European leagues for that matter) being too enamoured with the all mighty dollar/euro/pound. The sooner Platini instills a salary cap the better. I'm tired of seeing overhyped average players earn mega dollars for doing sod all. There are probably only a handful of players that I would actually say earn their money and have my respect. The rest can go jump. As for Charlton and West Ham, well it looks like the East End of London might be a bit barren in terms of Premiership teams come end of the season. Charlton have had a pretty good run in the league considering their size and resources. Hope they don't turn into a Leeds Utd ie get relegated to Div 2 status.

We will reach the knockout stages of the WC but will proceed no further. We will lose to England but win the other matches (vs Kenya and some other team) but in all likelihood lose to whoever we face in hte next stage.
Fleming needs to pull his head in, he put way too much pressure on the middle order to bash their way to victory on Tuesday by batting too slowly (106 off 148 balls is test match stuff).
NZ is not consistent enough in all facets of the game to scare teams, other teams will go into their matches confident that even NZ batted or bowled well, the reverse will occur. Sure we pushed Australia hard in three of the matches but once again weren't cut throat enough. Everyone has forgotten that if NZ hadn't had let Eng score 260 odd in the third match against them we would have received a bonus point, therefore making England's task even more impossible. But no, give the opposition a sniff of weakness/victory and they will, generally take it.
Frustrating to watch, they are the Hurricanes of the cricket world......

Sloppy journalism by the Herald? Surely you jest.....???
Anyway, this thread should lead to another thread - which disbanded band would you most like to see reform, put out an album, and tour?

mking : 21 January 2007 - 11:46am

I thought the sound on the main stages was massively inconsistent, like the sound people weren't exactly sure what they were supposed to be doing - if they had sent someone out into the stands they would have realised that the mix was very poor, lots of bass and drums, no vocals or guitars, especially for MCR and Jet. We moved around several times to get a better hearing vantage spot and found that sitting right at the back in front of the stages was the best.
And why weren't there two video screens instead of just one?
Still had a good time mind you.... :)

mking : 21 January 2007 - 11:42am

Yep, looked like Scribe has been enjoying a few pies lately.
Not sure about his set, not alot of people seemed that into it, I think the anticipation was more for the Killers/Muse/Tool at that stage of the evening.

mking : 12 January 2007 - 8:05pm

True. I'm hoping it won't turn into a boganfest, but its always good from a purely entertainment perspective watching them "get into it"
I'm surprised only the Metallica BDO sold out (apart from this one) The 1999 BDO line up looked fairly impressive, much more commercial than this years. I mean RHCP, Chemical Bros, Foo Fighters, NIN,....

mking : 12 January 2007 - 7:11pm

My missus reckons its a great marketing ploy - say its sold out and release an "extra" 2000 tickets. Surely if its sold out there is no extra room for any more people?
Yes - very strange timeslot for MCR 315pm, and also Trivium 1pm? I'm sure those bands are miffed at that as well. Although I am looking forward to seeing all those emo kids get thoroughly sunburnt due to MCR on in the middle of the arvo.

mking : 16 December 2006 - 11:55am

Did someone say free beer...??? Yes please.

mking : 14 December 2006 - 1:00pm

As I said, not really sure how the whole "reviewer" thing goes - not really trying to make a point, just thought that there would be some independance between reviewer of a CD and the editor. Otherwise the editor would end up doing all the reviewing? Same deal goes for things like the Herald, I'm sure the editor(s) doesn't tell Grant Smithies to give certain CDs 0 out of 5 - or do they :) ?

mking : 13 December 2006 - 6:14pm

But aren't CD reviews done by individuals? And the editor doesn't have anything to do with the rating, they just check the content? Scuse me for my journalistic ignorance.....
Music is so individualistic anyway that rubbish to one person's ears is gold to another's. If you agree with a review then cool, if not then I wouldn't worry about it because as long as you dig the music then who gives one?

mking : 28 November 2006 - 4:33pm

OK - I have got to give him his dues - Chris Rattue was correct about the Welsh rugby team. They weren't much good on Saturday - so fair play to him....

mking : 28 November 2006 - 4:31pm

Indeed a great concert - better than the Stones earlier this year (probably because the venue was better). One gripe though, Bono preaching during Bullet The Blue Sky, he sort of lost me there, wasn't quite sure what the point was (although at this stage I had had a few beers so perhaps that affected my intellect.
Here's a question - why isn't Mt Smart being considered as a possibel 60,000 seater stadium? Is it because it isn't in a sexy location? Or that it is in the middle of an industrial area? I though that it would be great venue to hold concerts (no residential areas around the stadium) and certainly has enough room to expand seating and upgrade facilities. Or is it that the rugby fraternity are too snobbish to see past Eden Park.....???

mking : 25 November 2006 - 12:19pm

I agree that sexual misconduct doesn't mean too much when it comes to how to run a coutnry - look at Bill Clinton for example. However, DBs continual problems when it comes to embarrassing himself and his party ie denial of Exclusive Brethren links etc have caused issues to the National Party. Every time they seem to be holding an advantage over Labour, they get pegged back due to his bumblings.
John Key will be a very good leader of the opposition, probably a bit naive politicially, but hopefully he will have a good caucus around him that supports him fully.
Michael Cullen will need to watch out too, Key is pretty clued up financially as well. I always get the impression when I see Cullen talking that he thinks he knows it all, he reminds me of the kid in the class who always puts their hand up to answer a teachers question to prove their superior intellect.

mking : 24 November 2006 - 5:09pm

I like the NZ Herald headline "Gone by Lunchtime!" - classic.....

mking : 24 November 2006 - 12:33pm

And we think Aussies have God complexes when it comes to sport! Its pieces of journalism like that that fuel the fire of every other rugby playing nation to absolutely go ballastic when they beat the ABs. That whole superiority complex that no team can possibly come close to beating the ABs and how dare a nation of Welshmen insinuate that they can beat the ABs. Well if you don't think you can compete with the ABs, why bother turning up? I just hope Chris' article doesn't come back to bite him this weekend....and for that matter WC 2007. No wonder George Gregan enjoyed his sledge in 2003, with this type of reporting it makes it all the sweeter for the teams that do beat the ABs.

mking : 18 November 2006 - 12:40pm

I watched the last half hour of Supergroup last night, it was very amusing. Very different personalities and musical styles ie Ted Nugent blues based rock, Evan Seinfeld and Scott Ian metal-ish rock. Seb Bach has ADD or something, he is seriously a hyper bunny. Look quite funny in future episodes as Evan walks out on the band, therefore no bassist - it works for the White Stripes.

mking : 18 November 2006 - 12:37pm

I think someone needs to say to Lucas - just because you are in rock and roll doesn't mean you are rock and roll.
Or T Lee needs to give him a slap.

mking : 17 November 2006 - 1:03pm

The full "Fist" line up - Seb Bach, Ted Nugent, Scott Ian of Anthrax, Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard and Jason Bonham. Managed by the infamous Doc McGhee, who if you believe the Motley Crue biography, used to be a drug smuggler of sorts.
Interesting - but most likely to be a train wreck. If Fist was the best they could come up with for a bandname, imagine what the songs will be like!

mking : 16 November 2006 - 5:18pm

Apparently Nonu has been pick "on form" - Henry and Smith said that Mauger was experiencing a dip in form, but that he would be back because "class was permanent". They rejected the notion that it had something to do with Mauger apparently meeting with Leicester Tigers management while in London. and that his mind wasn't entirely on the ABs. What's that Tui ad? Yeah, right.

mking : 16 November 2006 - 4:04pm

I only saw the ads for it, was it Seb Bach from Skid Row and Ted Nugent? Didn't recognise who the other three guys were.
I saw Lucas Rossi being interviewed on Campbell Live by Jacqui Brown the other day. If he was so much further up his bottom it would be illegal.
"Yeah, I have a beer when I wake up" - whatever.
If I was Jason Newstead I wouldn't be touring with this idiot either - oh wait a minute - he isn't....

mking : 16 November 2006 - 3:59pm

Ah yes - that one. Fantastic try. Quick winger splitting the defence, quick ruck ball and the French backline all set up then changing the direction of attack to score. IMO, one of the best tries ever, due to the fact that they needed it to win the game.
France will need some inspiration like that to win in the weekend. It was like their backline was afraid to accelerate and take on the defence . Mind you if JC and McCaw were lining me up I wouldn't be willing to take them on either.

mking : 16 November 2006 - 3:45pm

As in like Aussie Rules short shorts?

mking : 16 November 2006 - 3:45pm

I think its a good move by the AB coaches - if they lose the test they can always say "well it actually wasn't our strongest team, we just wanted to see what would happen", and if they win it'll be "well we can actually beat a French team that probably won't be too different from the one next year in two different ways".
I don't think there will be too many dust ups, the front row of France are getting demolished by Woodcock and Hayman at the moment , they will be too tired from getting shunted around the park let alone eye gouge, ruck out testes etc.
I would like to see the French throw it out to their wingers in open play, Dominici is still a slippery player even though he looks like a little boy. That's how the French used to play and scare the bejeesus out of the opposition. Everyone remember the try from the end of the world at Eden Park all those years ago...???
And don't get me started re Eden Park vs Waterfront - I'm well over it!!!

mking : 16 November 2006 - 1:56pm

Interesting re team announcement for this weekends test in Paris. I think gone are the days where you will get "the best" 15 players in the team, it will be more likely a team based on the opposition and where the AB coaches want to attack the opposition. You can't seriously tell me Nonu is better than McAlistair or Mauger (despite his faults), he is one dimensional. Sorry - two dimensional ie either run through or past opposition players. Apparently he has a "kicking game" but doesn't employ it often. That's because he doesn't use his brain to size up situations and use it appropriately. And I'm a long suffering Wellington supporter as well.....
