That would be down to the specially designed bungy attached to his back now at every gig. And I take it that's a vote for Fast Train as the first single
I was at this gig and have a very different recollection although misty eye syndrome may be coming into play. Enjoyed the 3ds but Nirvana totally blew me away. can recall be amazed by Kurts ability to sing inthat voice of his - hit all the notes etc and they had undeniable attitude. Can also vaguely recall wondering if at times during the set there was a backing tape or additional hidden guitarist as there seemed to be more coming out of the PA than what was obvious onstage - probably way off-base with that one though.
Tall Poppys - you can't be serious. Perhaps you Welly boys have a somewhat over-inflated opinion of your little scene down there. Still you've got a great rugby team at the moment - go the Lions!
Look, I've got nothing against bands jumping around on stage but in my humble opinion Paselode came accross like they should be playing covers at the Quinns Post (is that pub still going?)
Yeah, the Boxcars are pretty interesting and obviously all great musicians. I guess it's just that I think their set could be enhanced by a bit more of that groove rock vibe of the last song they played and the singer going for it a bit more at times, not that I want them to start jumping round like morons like the band that followed.
if by cool you mean technically proficient then maybe... but really if that's not a good example of a drummer over playing I don't know what is.
// hah they were blunted as, and jamming on that g chord the whole way through//
you refering to boxcars or paselode? Anyway , who did i tell to relax?
Man - I saw Paselode last night at the Kings Arms. This has to be one of the worst bands I've ever had the misfortune of being subjected to. Nothing to do with the various technical problems they encountered, just that their particular brand of funk-lite "rock" totally sucked. And with all of their nerdy posturing it was almost like watching one of those totally cringe inducing David Brent moments on "The Office" when you have to turn away from the tele it's so embarrassing.
On a more positive note The Boxcar Guitars were quite appealing, although could'nt help wishing they would let go a bit more - very restrained and controlled and that level of energy can tend to lose momentum in a live setting, particularly when the place is virtually empty.
Saw Jim at the dead moon gig - doesn't sound like he's doing much music at the mo
If its gonna take someone to organise this, make sure the product is available bla bla bla then your'e really acting as a distributor aren't you, presumeably there would have to be some money in it for whoever is putting it together. Also as it's all unsigned bands it would quickly become quite a complicated exersise sorting out the payments side of things - ie. who collects and distributes the revenue - do you have a good model for how this would work? Not intending to pour cold water on the idea just adding some food for thought.
So tell me Danny - you going to play along to backing tapes or are you making it all up as you go?
I'm very interested in this recording method Any idea what studio they used - I would also be interested in contacting the engineer re possible work - any contact details?
For starters to say that Bowie never really delivered is just plain rediculous.
Re the comments about Carter's assertion of his music being honest etc. This is a good indication that he has gotten to the place where he recognises that this is the holy grail and that's the zone where he wants to be operating. Now a lot of musicians come to this realisation over time but unfortunately thinking it and truely achieving it are worlds apart - it's a long and sometimes painful journey to embark on and in most cases will involve at least a period of unlearning/purging. Shayne has real talent which has been proven over and over again - I wish him well on this most rightous quest.
Why the defensiveness everyone? I think jet was onto something in his initial astute analysis of lena's post.
But there's no need to confuse lena's self confessed inclination to ammuse herself with various forms of overstatement and baiting, with a jem such as this post.
Clearly what she is getting at is that the more of your true self you can inject into your music the better it will be. How can anyone dispute this? This is the only thing truely unique and original that you have in your arsenal so the more you use it the better - the rest is just packaging.
As far as the Shayne thing goes - doesn't mean lena thinks he's a liar, she just thinks he's not quite achieving what he's set out to do.
Sorry - made my last post before reading samflux's post which pretty well say's the same thing. No matter what your opinion about the relative merits of NZ idol I think it is fair to say that NZ has a long running tradition of this sort of talent scouting music show - after all it was NZ that first came up with the popstars concept - anyone remember Truebliss?
NO question though that voting stats must be extremely low, if they were huge do you think Andy Shaw would be refusing to release them - I don't think so.
I think you'll find that the NZonair budgets for making television programming and funding music videos/recording are completely separate - therefore funding this project would only be affecting what television is produced - not music
Agree but it doesn't happen very often in my experience - that's why this is an interesting development
Well, Maybe finger pops was OK but the vast majority of Garageland output that I came across was very average - just saying that I detect an edge in this song that in my view was never apparent in previous efforts - and not just the lo-fi production.
Heard the song by band Red Drum called 'No Cross on the Crossroads'
on b today and was surprised to find out Jeremy Eade was behind it. Now I for 1 was firmly of the opinion that Garageland were total crap but this song is really good. What gives - any theories?
The c4 g'n'r thing this last week was total overkill - seemed to me like every fucking time I switched over to C4 there was the same Fuckin GNR concert. 1 thing though - it served to illustrate the fact that they only had a few noteworthy songs and the rest was just garbage
You've once again hit the nail on the head with that post Heather. I have yet to experience this wanky Auckland scene and I'm a regular visitor to KA, Odeon, Edens, Bollix etc.
The reality is that Wellingtonians often exhibit a similar chip on the shoulder attitude towards Auckland that we as NZers feel towards Australia.
I'm a born and bred Wellingtonian and it never ceases to amaze me that whenever visiting Wellington, a city by the way that I still love, I always cop the boring old Ork Dork quips with depressing regularity.
This is not in general a 2-way street - Aucklanders in my experience don't look down on other parts of the country in the same way that the rest of the country views Auckland.
Classic example of this behaviour - Carlos Spencer gets booed at Jade Stadium, Merthens cheered on as a replacement during All Black trials at Eden Park.
