Also, may I suggest that as an alternative to US or Australian made guitars ( The Maton range from OZ is quite acceptable - Shihad's fromtman Jon uses one) you consider a New Zealand made guitar?
Link: http://www.ashcustomworks.com/
Link: http://www.langcaster.com/
And what about a New Zealand made valve amp?
Here's a topic from this forum's very own Best of the Boards section:
http://www.nzmusic.com/topic.cfm?show=all&i=12544#post209840
There are also New Zealand effects pedals such as the G2D range, which includes the Morpheus pedal mentioned above.

Of course, as I mentioned above, the guitarists that post on the NZGuitars forum can let you know their experiences with buying guitars from here in New Zealand as well as buying guitars from overseas directly and by-passing the Rockshop markup - thus saving quite abit of money.
Also, Ash himself from AshCustomWorks posts there so you can ask him directly what you need to know.
That NZGuitars url again:
May I suggest checking out NZGuitars (dotCom), an online forum for guitarists in New Zealand?
The url is: http://www.nzguitars.com
It has discussions on guitars, amps, effects pedals, guitar modifications, as well as playing tips and suchlike.
That url again:

The magazine started in 1977 and Edwyn Collins didn't form the Juice until the early eighties.

The song the magazine is named after is from 1956.

There's a few good basic tips on recording at the BBC's Sold on a Song site:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/soldonsong/guide/studio.shtml
Just basic stuff but good to know and even better to do.
Remember, if you know what you want then you'll know when you get it.
If you don't know, then you could be there all day and end up with nothing you like.
So decide what you want, prepare what you need, and plan what you're going to do.
That's each band member as an individual and all together as a band, too.
So everyone knows what everyone else is going to do and when and why.
I know it's simple stuff but it's usually the simple things that trip people up.
Anyway, have fun.

The Wairarapa MMF has a few tips for singing.
http://www.wairarapamusic.co.nz/
Click on Public News on the left-hand side nav menu.
Scroll down to Hints & Tips.
There are tips for "Breathing", "Mic Technique" and "Powerful Vocals".
As for warming up - you could sing the songs just quietly to yourself a couple of times, just to loosen up, and then a couple more times with the rest of the band so they can loosen up and get into the groove.
Not only does it get you ready to record it also lets you know if you remermber all the words or not. But you are going to have your lyrics with you, aren't you? Then you don't have to worry about remembering the words.
Because worry is a killer. As is any sort of stress, especially for a singer. If you stress out then you tighten up. And that's no good.

the Empire Hotel - Petone
8pm to midnight
Sunday 24th October – 2004
Yes, they take the Empire Hotel with them wherever they go.
Then they’ll be sure to have a comfy bed for after the gig.
And each member of the band has a room set up just the way he or she likes it.
It makes it easier for them when smashing-up-the-hotel-room time starts.
Because you all know how frustrating it can be staying in a strange room where everything’s not where you’re use to having it.
Your smashing order’s completely thrown out and you really can’t get into the rhythm of the thing.
And another advantage of travelling with your own hotel is that you can be sure that the TVs will actually fit out the window.
Because you all may not have noticed TV sets have been getting bigger while windows sizes have remained the same.
Not that they’ll be taking the hotel swimming pool with them for the Petone gig.
Well, for one it’s a bugger to get over the hill from the Wairarapa to Wellington and surrounding localities.
And two, with Petone right on the water’s edge they don’t like people bringing in their own swimming facilities.
So please check out The Roadsterz if you have some time and petrol money this weekend.
Cheers.
By the way, I don’t actually play with The Roadsterz. I’m just the Sound Technician mixing their live sound.
So I don’t get a room to myself. I have to share. But I am allowed to throw one of the roadies out the window. So that’s good.
By the second way, The Roadsterz will be playing Wellington on December the 4th – 2004. More details later.
Peace.
By the third way, pictures of a recent The Roadsterz gig can be seen at
