Hi Mr Jaguar!
How are you doin'?
When are you and Amanda off to Japan?
what about the experimental musicians and composers hailing from new zild?
Douglas Lilburn, Jack Body, Annea Lockwood, Bruce Russell, Phil Dadson, John Psthas ( who recently composed for the Olympic Games) , From Scratch to name but a few....?
What a BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved this group!
The first time I saw them live just after Bleeding Star was released, I snuck into their gig underage, and witnessed the four of them create a dense sweeping huge tornado of a sound that was unlike anything I'd ever heard.
Their songs were incredible. The song SLIP ....awe-inspiring watching Gary Sullivan flaling at the drums against a tidal wave of white heat noise from the guitarists...and Dave Yetton...has New Zealand ever had a cooler bass playing front man?
They wrote the soundtrack to CRUSH ,a NZ film in the mid 90's too.
THE LAB COATS -Acid And Alkaline
SIGNER- The New Face Of Smiling
PHIL DADSON - Soundtracks
Hell Is Other People. They were brilliant.
Letterbox Lambs. Also brilliant.
Yup. Long Shot.

How do you measure talent? How do you equate being 'corporate' to an artist's amount ,or lack, of talent? I'd be interested to know also, how you think shihad are stretching musical boundaries. I agree they have certainly developed and explored a wide array of musical ground in their career not to mention pocessing a live show that wipes the floor with most other artists i can think off. They are an inspiration to a lot of people, doubtlessly and deservedly so but what boundaries are they stretching in your opinion? Their own, by constantly re-defining themselves? I'd agree. If you have others in mind, out of curiosity, i'd love to hear them. I'm not interested in a raging argument, just an expansion of your comment really.
cheers
Hey Tim, the reason zed might sound better to you on CD than fur patrol, may have something to do with zed's recording budget being several times larger than that of fur patrol. To my ears, there's a whole lot more attitude on the latter's album!
I agree completely with Matt. These guys have evolved into one unique group over the last few years, their new album rules too.
I'd like to know more about a band called LOOMA.
I think they're from up Napier way.
'been hearing nothin' but good stuff about them.
Also, what about GOLDEN HORSE from Auckland?

AIH are proof that new australian music doesn't have to be dumb bogan pub rock
their Fingers Crossed CD is excellent.
