what great reading this thread has been:) all I have to say, is that we 'Naquadah' entered the battle a couple of years ago to have an adventure. And we did! It was the best damn road-trip we ever had. Smoke filled bar - full capacity. Pool cues holding up the curtains in our room, bunks falling apart, and much dodgyness totally unrelated to WBOTB or it's organisers. We just wanted to get our name out there... and although there was much negative publicity regarding our entry in the battle, it was still publicity. We were given no favours, and we only got as far as we did because of our music. We didn't win because we weren't the best band on the night. Musicians who start out and enter these competitions are rarely motivated by money, or where it's going. They are motivated by their music, and their audience. Those who disagree... well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Hey WOW what a fantastic night :)
Thanks to all the bands for a great show, and to everyone who came. There definitely needs to be more chick fronted rock bands out there, and it was great to see 4 of them playing all in the one venue doing such a fantastic job on stage! what a memorable night... lets do that again!

ok heres' a lesson... if u don't want to be "blacklisted" from playing gigs @ the Masonic... and organised events such as 5 bands for 5 bucks... do 3 things...
Stop bagging the Sound Engineer
Stop bagging the Venues
Stop bagging the Promoters
thats all I have to say (especially since you're just starting out... u have a lot to learn!)

How'd you get that ad? I thought Glassons was an Aussie clothing company. Nice drumming by the way:)

I have talked to Lou since my last post... @ the Muse Concert. It seems theres been a big misunderstanding... the riff raff between the two of you had nothing to do with whether you were going to audition for us or not ( so it seems ), but a bad day at the office has escalated into a personal grievance (did I spell that right?) and I believe that Lou sincerely didn't realise that it was you at the time of the trouble:) I have known Lou for a number of years prior to Naquadah, and although her 'medicine' is rather hard to swallow for some... generally she is a real sweetie and will do anything to help out ppl:) No offence to you of course... as I said before, I don't know you yet ... and I do know Lou:) You either love her or hate her
cheers

What a wicked night;) It seems that they kept to that setlist afterall... it's a shame they didn't play 'Sing for Absolution'. I didn't think that the St James would've been big enough for the confetti & the balloons, ( as seen in 'Hullaballoo' ) and I even looked up to the ceiling for a balloon net... however they still managed to bring the balloons from back of the stage area and set off the confetti during 'Stockholm Syndrome'! As for their show... their sound was incredible ( unless you were right up the back hindered by low ceilings), everyone I think had a view of the stage, and that lighting dude (right in front of me) did a good job choreographing the lights! Me thinks that there should've been a mirror angled behind Matt B while he was playing the keys because his rig was so huge & metal you couldn't see his fingerwork. But what mighty fine fingerwork it was:) Nice to see Chris (bass) didn't suffer too much with his broken wrist. And don't get me started on Dom (drums)... I love his style. He rarely has his arms out of view and his playing style is so dynamic. What a pro:) Nice gig all round!

Ahhh so you must be Stephanie then:) I haven't met you so I can't form an opinion on you... so in saying that, Hi... how are u, and how's your new band working out? Have we really got a bad rep... 'cause I had no idea, and does this also mean you've formed a bad opinion of me based on the band I happen to be in?

Just so everyone is clear on this... CROWBAR has only replied to this thread because he was pissed off by something I said in one of his other threads. This is no reflection on our band our reputation or our music. Make up your own minds please:)
cheers

How did you become so NEGATIVE? I was just talking about taking advantage of the exposure... and you've gone into my classified ad and BAGGED MY BAND! What right do you have? Just because you have something against Andrew Featherstone... that's no reason to get all anti towards us. 1, No I'm not PAID to support the Battle through this medium, or any other! 2, You have never explained fully why the battle & AF have affected you so personally! and yes u are taking this way too seriously... You're making this whole fiasco sound like Intergalactic Records & Associates have gone around to your mothers place & smothered her in her sleep! GET A LIFE!

do you even know who Keith Jarrett is?... (without looking him up on the internet!) he's definitley not an obscure artist as you have made him out to be in your comparison to Ayn Rand, if you don't know, I won't try to tell you that you know 'Jack Shit', but sure you're entitled to your opinion,... and maybe while you're at it take a leaf out of Ayn Rands book and be more positive... and finally, half a bottle of prozac oughta get that negativity out and don't worry about the passion, leave that to Matt Bellamy:)

with so much damn talent out there... and being such a small country... these musos would probably get together for a laugh... who would u pick?

Holstarr : 1 September 2004 - 4:53am

that's unfortunate for you la la... (that it was a nightmare of a night). congrats on getting through :) hopefully you'll get your supporters & bandmembers moneys' worth out of this when it all shakes out. But personally for me I see it as a great way to get exposure and reach new audiences regardless of the fees involved. I suppose if I was to pay for my own band to play with a setup ( run professionally of course) PA, advertising, lighting and a guaranteed crowd, I wouldn't be able to do it out of my own pocket... it would cost way too much:( so in a way I'm glad competitions like this are available. Getting through and getting exposure should be the most important thing shouldn't it?

I'm personally glad that Bellamy changed his vocal stylings to what it is today... and I think his voice can only be marginally compared to Thom Yorke... there is a lot of grit & passion in his voice & I can't help but be in awe of it. Totally agree with u Jane:)

I've just recently discovered that old CD singles are worth a shit load now... for instance... I have 'Bjork - Human Behaviour' limited edition single which is now worth about $55. And my Radiohead single 'High & Dry' would fetch about $35 atm. This has given me new hope for collectors, or even ppl who are thinking of buying cds for collecting. CDs aren't dead yet!

if u get a chance to watch the 'Hullabaloo' DVD you'll see... that for a 3 piece they seem to pull off an incredible amount sound variations, which to me says a lot. They are all amazingly versatile, talented, entertaining, and I personally can't wait to see them:)

ok so you've had your predictions for 2003... but they're still running & it's well into 2004 so headed up a new topic addresssing this ongoing thread:)
A couple of bands that you can be sure to expect big things from are REMOTE... & Redmore
Firstly if you think you've heard of Remote b4... you'd be right. These boys have been around for awhile. They placed 2nd at the National Battle of the Bands a many years back, and have finally come out of hiding. They are an original aggressive hard-edged rock band that truly pack a punch... with the best elements of Disturbed, Filter, & Tool in their sound, as well as a dynamic stage presence that has to be seen... watch out for these guys!!
Redmore are definitley up & coming... and know how to draw you in musically. They are super tight & have great melodic vocals. I would describe them as a little 'Linkin Park', and a little 'Manic Str Preachers'
