i think yumajapanese meant that she didn't go to the big day out 2002.
You don't have to come to New Zealand in january, you can come earlier when it's cheaper- aren't you coming over in december?
There are other music festivals with New Zealand music over summer.

axel : 6 October 2003 - 11:38pm

nar, probably not ey.

axel : 24 September 2003 - 7:16pm

i'm probably not, because, although I respect Moana for what she is doing for maori music, I don't actually dig the music all that much- though I do actually like one of the songs did a while ago- which I can't actually remember..

I think it is interesting the issue of language in schools though. New Zealand has been really slow in adapting a situation where kids have some compulsory second language learning- apart from those who come here then need to learn english to adapt into the mainstream system here. In fact this is about the only thing I kinda support bill english in-argh!that doesn't happen often!- That is, that at a young age kids are able to learn a whole lot, especially picking up different languages. Why shouldn't one of those languages be Maori? admittingly there is a lot of controversy surrounding the addition of compulsory Maori language learning in the mainstream, however, I think that it's mental that so many New Zealanders who have been here for ages don't have any, even, basic knowledge of tikanga and te reo. However, if the mainstream media isn't prepared to support it then many people are unlikely to see the relevance to learning it in schools.

As far as the inclusion of Te Reo Maori music on mainstream radio- I do support that idea that maybe the programme directors of mainstream networks should have a go at including Music that includes Maori language. Especially if it fits into their format in other ways, such as being pop music, or indeed 'easy listening', classical or whatever. Fobbing it off to Mai fm is a bit of a cop out. though, Mai fm is a wicked station for r'n'b and hip hop music. And that's another issue - not all prominent and interesting Maori music is actually within those genres,as Moana pointed out- theres a lot more great stuff out there.

axel : 24 September 2003 - 1:52pm

whohoo!
i'll (probably) be there too!

axel : 16 September 2003 - 2:30pm

nar that's all good! my attempt at trying to wind you guys up just failed! next time, haha!
erg!
it is a good idea though, so it's not surprising that someone else wants to develop something similar as well.

axel : 16 September 2003 - 1:52pm

not just a hint of bitterness there guys!

it's not exactly like what you guys did, you should be flattered you had a good idea!

axel : 15 September 2003 - 3:01pm

yay, I'll probably be there!
does that mean that stinkbuzz will also be gracing us with his presence?

axel : 10 September 2003 - 4:30pm

I don't think it really counts as a NZ music competition if you only include rock acts.

axel : 9 September 2003 - 4:42pm

sorry didn't make it, especially if someone else was buying! ;)

//*over acting*

yeah, if you mean the 'boys of summer' clip.. they probably are taking the piss a bit doing the punk version of a don henley number- or then again maybe they are taking it off the latest version instead??

i think it depends on the bike?
It would make more sense if you were driving a motorbike, but I think it makes more sense to say I'm riding a bike, driving a car/truck etc.
driving a horse is something different I think- relates to something else with horses , maybe horse racing or something,
but most times- unless you're real good at equesitrian (sp?) stuff the horse is probably driving you....
to ride in a car would mean you're a passenger..

urgh..
anyone got a grammar manual anywhere?

axel : 22 August 2003 - 4:23pm

ha, yeah I thought it was..
.. not many
infinity
..not many etc..
but if any kinda makes more sense..

It's a total bummer that the temple has to close up shop- they had seemingly endless support for local music, and like 'big_stu' says "giving anyone a go". The couple of times I have been there with Vocoder we had such awesome, funny times- especially with the very cool bar staff there. And, yes, funnily enough, one of those times was also when 'mister lemon' was playing too.

I've known people who live near town and venue areas that accept that there is going to be noise, whether on the street or from a venue, and you accept that cos that's part of the culture that you've moved into. It's like people want the vibrancy, convience and atmosphere that comes from being close to town but they want it on a schedule.

Developers too have their part to play in this argument cos, yes, they should be thinking ahead and practically instead of with their wallets. Especially those who deliberately try to cut costs by not putting in adequate sound proofing. Sound-proofing that makes sense, even if there weren't venues nearby, because of the noise that is created by people who live in the apartments themselves, all packed in like sardines.. blah blah..

As far as the smoking in bars issue goes, yeah, sometimes I do agree that it would be a totally good idea to ban it from bars- especially when you don't smoke and you come home stinking of it- but, that would make me a hypocrite, I have been partial to the odd cigarette myself in my time. Then I think it should be the people who make money of people's addictions that should be prosecuted- the people themselves, yes they have the choice not to partake, but, often once you're hooked it's a lot harder to quit doing it. Even with the prospect of having to leave a warm, happy venue for the cold harsh outside to just have that toke of a ciggie. That is, you end up punishing certain people for something that is more complex than stopping people smoking in bars.
That said, you have to go outside to go to the loo in the temple anyway so maybe you just cope with your wee selves ( that was not mean't to be a pun!)

this she says while drinking coffee that was probably created by child labour in a third world country..
it's a complicated world.

it suxs that the temple is going!
:P

axel : 12 August 2003 - 7:08pm

yeah, but actually I'm not exactly sure what it referred to either- just that is was incriminating to me- it's probably a thing that you had to be there at the time for -injokes on the way up/and back! from palmy!
u don't want to know is probably the summary of that!
shame!

axel : 10 August 2003 - 3:48pm
